Root [Boost Mobile] Making flashables? :o

I've been working on an "Ice Cream Jelly" type theme for some time now. Its a mix between ICS and JB style icons and stuff. I'd really love to share it with others to see what y'all think of it but I don't know how to make a flashable zip :(:confused: can anyone help with this pleeeeaaaase??

The easiest way would probably be to take an existing flashable ZIP (for a ROM, for example) and modify the contents using a utility like 7zip. Whatever files you leave in will get flashed. You can leave the contents of meta-inf but delete anything else you won't be flashing. Keep in mind each ROM is themed differently. If you took system files from the stock ROM, for example, someone flashing those themed files over a custom ROM would lose part of the ROM's customization at best and boot loop at worst.

Thanks! And I know about that last part, I've been there once or twice. I've been trying to perfect this for months now and I think it's about ready.
 
I saw some templates a while back that would work better.... if you take a rom flashable, chances are the script will format system prior to flashing your system files...Skinnyjeans, do you wanna make a rom or just a theme flashable? lilbit help me out where are the flashable templates? was it shinru or hoark that had made em?...

Oops on my part... I didn't even think of the formatting. I should've mentioned that the installer-script will need edited to tailor it for your purposes.

Let me know what ROM you're theming for and I can make an install container for it when I get home tonight.
 
Here you go, skinnyjeans!

This is a generic flashable container which has the basic structure in place to serve as a vehicle to carry and install your theme. The installer script I included has placeholders for your name, the date and name of the theme, which you can fill in with the appropriate info. It formats nothing and also sets proper permissions on the newly flashed files after copying. Just put your files in their places (either system/app or system/framework) inside this file and voil

I'm theming for Ctmod noobed. I noticed when flashing i2f's theme or other flashables in cwm it shows like a little signature kinda? Like "Warped sandwich for Ctmod... Now flashing" or whatever. Where's the file for that? I'm pretty new to making this sort of stuff so sorry for all the questions
 
The file you want to edit is: updater-script

It's located in: META-INF/com/google/android

Can't wait to check out your work. Post lots of screen shots when you post it!!

Hey, no problem! That's what we're here for :)

That's in the installer-script, which you'll find nested inside the meta-inf folder.

Images and two xml files in framework-res, and only images in SystemUI

EDIT: There was no problem using VTS and using the two files in my phone after the xml changes. I put the two files into the proper directories into the container zip, flashed, and thats when the problem came up. I tried fixing permissions but it finished immediately. I read the log and it said that sh: fix permissions was denied or something so I tried to flash one of i2f's themes to try and get my phone booting but after tons of flashing nothing works. :(

Okay, try it again without the XML changes, just to narrow things down. Once that works, try one XML file, then reflash. Then try the other, then reflash. One step at a time makes debugging way easier lol

Lol we must have! I read it now :)

So the problem doesn't happen if you push the files to the device via VTS, only when you use the container... Okay, try re-downloading the container - I made an edit to the permissions.
 
I just threw it into one of i2f's flashable zips, modded the updater-script, and voila its booting! Of course I had to totally reinstall my rom the mod gapps all the rest of my apps and my other crap but hey, part of the job I guess :D gonna upload to dropbox and find a few testers to see what they think first though just to make sure nobody else goes through the same problems I ran into.

Incidentally, I used one of MrBobo's zips for my theme.
Man. I love this forum. :-)
