Root [Boost Mobile] Removing APKs?

sooo... just got my warp "screen protected + cased" today and I'm starting to use it ^.^ already rooted. Going about removing apks now. I'm wondering if anyone else has removed anything yet. I'm wanting to remove the apks in this list, most of which I don't think will be a problem since I removed them on my prevail, but the last 2.

Docs To Go - no point, I'll get something else if I want to
Email - use gmail
Global Time - no point again
Sound Recorder - no point as well
Talk - whyyyyy
Voice Dialer - don't like using voice commands
Voice Search - ditto

BoostZone - now this does seem to have some phone related infoz
Mobile ID - now since it's linked to main button on the home screen, that won't work obviously once I delete it, think it'll freak out if I delete it? or only if I try using that button? I'll prolly just leave it...

so yeah... mostly just wondering if it's safe to remove BoostZone. Anybody? Bueller... Bueller?

I just froze them all via titanium backup, switch to an alternative launcher(go launcher), and the mobile zone button wont be a problem.

I've been wondering the same thing what APKs we can get rid of, I don't want some of these apps that just use up our memory. Or some of the apps that can be replaced with our choice.

well, just removed everything, to impatient >.> doesn't seem to have freaked out. We shall see.

Whoops... now I done ****ed up. I removed the XT9IME.apk cuz I didn't want that keyboard, but now it won't stop force closing. Won't let me past that screen >.<

Took the battery out, everythings all good. The only problem I've had is, removing ONE of those apks makes the camera stop working after reboot. So... time to find out which one it is that I have to keep.

Be careful what you remove because there is currently no way to restore if you really bugger something up.
knowing me I would delete something that would make it bootloop.

I am waiting for the devs to get CWM working before I start deleting things.

all good my friend. The camera does not work if you remove the Email.apk and odex. Everything else though, seems to be removable without repercussion.

as well as the XT9IME.apk which is the other keyboard (though you will have to pull your battery to reset the phone and stop it from force close looping)

I accidently deleted my back-up of the boost zone apk, would you mind posting it, if that's possible, or does that retain your device's information? Clearing the apps cache might work for that though. Anyways, I would appreciate it. I never really got to play around with it and I don't want to have do a system restore. :)

Can you link me to a good/working rooter ? I have so far tried about 6-7 of them on my Nexus S and not one of them has worked properly. I am with Rogers Canada if that makes any difference ?

Thank you,

Marc

I wish I'd read this earlier. I discovered my camera was screwed up yesterday and spent an hour debugging. Sure enough, I'd frozen the default email package. I knew that with the Android operating system packages assume other packages will provide some functions they need, but this seems totally random.

Ok, so now that I know the camera works only with the email.apk... how do I get it back? I deleted it and Titanium Backup won't restore it. I'm so frustrated now.

Try using a file explorer with SU (Root Explorer, Es File Explorer, or Astro to name a few) and copy email.apk and .odex from your sd card to /system/app and reboot. </system/app/email.apk; /system/app/email.odex>

-you must mount /system as R/W or the files will not copy

Talk can cause issues with the market (authentication fail) it seems the market relies on it for some things.
Voice Dialer needed for speech to text
Voice Search also needed for speech to text

:)

I used the app Mount /System to set as r/w but I recieve this error now: java.io.filenotfoundexception: /system/app/email.apk (permission denied)

i use es file explorer. open it and press menu>settings and scroll all the way down and check "root explorer" and "mount file extensions" it will ask for SU permission (say yes)
now it will browse as SU.
-locate the email.apk and email.odex
-long press email.apk and select COPY (a small tab with an ^ arrow will appear at the bottom (this is the clipboard)
-navigate to /system/app
-pull up the clipboard and select email.apk
-repeat for email.odex
-reboot

(note: sd card is /system/mnt/sdcard)

edit-suggest mods move to root section

Well, ES File Explorer wouldn't let me go anywhere but the sdcard, but I installed Root Browser Lite and was able to get permission from SU and copy files. But it still says email is not installed.

can you use adb?

also with Es, there is a button that looks like a star (favorites?)press it and then select the phone it will then bring you to /
