Root [Boost Mobile] Security Features

Ok

So I have been doing a lot of work on this phone the last couple of days and this is what my theory is

CWM Backs up and restore /data just fine

but there is some type of security feature on the Stock Rom that wipes your data partition on boot if it detects something

this does not happen on CM7, something else happens with CM7 on the newer phone

I think on newer phones there is a security feature that can tell your are not running the stock ROM, and once the screen goes off or you press the power button to turn off screen, it does not come back on

this does not seem to happen with other people, who have older phones that installed CM7

Now you know why ZTE is not providing working source code

this stuff is worse than CIQ

can any one who was able to run CM7 with out the screen issue use my partition dumper and provide me with all the partition except the big ones

system, data, and cache
http://androidforums.com/warp-all-things-root/521292-zte-warp-partiton-dumper-cwm.html

I want to compare the boot loaders on an older phone with the ones on my phone

thank you

No problem! Gimme about 10-15 mins and I'll give u the files (editing this post)

edit: dumping.. so far so good, I will note I am currently running shinjitsu 1.1c and never upgraded to b08c.

edit 2: Will this dump my play store account info? :s

thanks

I do not need system data or cache

so.. then what do you need? o.O

edit: taking a while on system.ext4.img.. but im sure it'll get there

wow.. lol just re-read your OP.. XD I feel dumb now. I guess it happens

edit: dumping data atm.. this should be the one that takes the longest (the same situation in cwm restoring process)

edit: so from your op, what your saying is this phone has a locked bootloader or is this something different? (still dumping btw)

edit: I must say this is taking longer than what I originally anticipated.. No errors so far so thats good, still working on data.ext4.img (even though u dont need it, waiting for the whole thing to finish incase other goodies will be made).

I am not sure yet, I just believe all this issues I am running into are security features

mainly the CWM restore of data on old and new phones

and running non stock roms on new phones

i have also dumped my partitions if u need another look let me know i will upload mine.

talking about security zte has made it very difficult to find your msl. on my phone none of the ril commands worked i had to use logat while entering a random dial code to find it and its listed as something else. what's even weirder is that every time i reboot the phone a new msl is written. has anyone experienced this?

How would I know if I have a old phone or new phone? Are talking about B08 and B08c?

No , if you just bought it recently it most likely has the security features
but if you bought it around last year when they first came out , then you have the old one.

I got mine from best buy about a month ago. I'm currently in B08c with CWM 5.0.2.8c and stock ROM and build.prop (March 12). I have no problem with the backlight screen not coming back on. The phone came with B08.

Edit: Let me know if I can do something to help.

I have owned two of the Warps. I bought one in Novemeber that met an unfortunate end, and I have purchased one again in February that never updated to B08c. I have yet to experience what you have explained with either phone and I have been playing hopscotch between Shinjitsu and the Stock ROM with this newer phone for the last two weeks. Could it be that I never upgraded to B08c? Just a thought....

Perhaps they just started doing that to the new phones last week or so. or maybe some problems with cwm

Problem has existed. He's talking about how the data partition gets wiped soon boot because of some kind of security.

I would think they all have that issue

The screen issue was related to the zImage I was using

I may have been using the recovery zImage for the regular one

I just find it weird that it did not cause issues with other people, that is why I am thinking I have different boot loaders

This is what I find with the CWM restore of data

Make sure you have a few apps installed
Go into CWM and do a back up

Now in CWM go into Mounts and Storage

Mount /data and then test with adb

adb shell ls -l /data/app

it should show that you have apks

Now in CWM in Mounts and Storage format /data and then mount it again and test with adb

adb shell ls -l /data/app

there should be nothing there now

Now go into the backup / restore Menu, Do an advanced restore and restore /data

Now in CWM go into Mounts and Storage

Mount /data and then test with adb

adb shell ls -l /data/app

it should show that you have apks

Now reboot the phone

Notice how long it is taking to get past that Android Logo

Could it be formatting your data partition because it has detected some change some where

I really don't know, but i think that is whats happening

This does not seem to happen with CM7

is this a fix for cmw?

edit: still didnt load data. did exactly what u said

this is not a fix, never said it was

it is a test

to try to figure what is going on

so are you telling me that when you restored and check with adb shell nothing was there ??

what I am trying to prove is that CWM is in fact restoring data

but there is a security function that is detecting the change and formatting the the data on the next boot

I may be wrong about this, but this is what I think is happening

Have you tried installing CM7, installing a few apps

doing a backup

wiping , and restoring

were the apps there?

So is it the stock rom? Or is it one of those partitions?
I was goin through the init.arthur.rc last night and seen it made a call to mmcblk0p5 and mmcblk0p6. I dont know how to extract info from the partitions, but it would be interesting to see whats in there

no prob

I am just sharing my findings, hoping that some one may be able to figure it out

Very interesting thread... Would the live dmesg or live logcat apps help shed some light on things?

[Android 2.1+][13.12.2011][v2.5] live dmesg / logcat boot animations [ROOT] - xda-developers

I don't know if anyone's tried them with the Warp so they may not even work with this phone. However, if they are compatible, I think there's a chance they may function even if /data gets wiped. I would think some changes outside of /data would be made for the logs to be shown so early in the boot process. However, it's also possible that those changes could still reference files on /data too and break the app after a CWM restore. The link states that a writable /system partition is a requirement so maybe that's where the key changes are made. Who knows? It's a long shot, but thought it was worth mentioning.

The other option I've been trying to figure out for a while now is how to use the serial console to monitor the boot process. Can't find a whole lot of info on it, but what I have found suggests that some kernel tweaks are needed to enable the functionality. Considering the questionable kernel source, it's probably not a viable option at the moment. Just throwing it out there in case someone happens to know more about this option.

My screen stops working after flashing any rom period... I tried shinjitsu and downgrading to B08 so far and neither work
