Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

Sooo Google pushed that hangouts update to the market I figured the bugs were worked out......they're not so if u use hangouts don't update from the market just yet still broken .....on s3 anyway.

Edit: I have the version before this if anyone has updated and needs the .apk also I'm on moar rom if that makes a difference idk I haven't tried it on stock or other roms.

latest version of liquid smooth 2.37 with android 4.3.1 works great

no issues so far

Yup. That's the ROM I've been testing. LOL. It runs just like it's name, LiquidSmooth. I'll get it added to the section sometime today. Ive got a sick wife and a lot of stuff that needs to get done around the house. I'll make sure it's added today though.

If you don't mind, please share any kernels that you've tried with the 2.37 version in case any other other guys want to give it a try.

:D_____________________________________________:D

I'm going to get it added tonight sometime. Just got in the house not long ago. Been out shopping, came home, cooked the wife something to eat, made sure she took her meds, and now I'm gonna chill with her for a little while and baby her. Nothing wrong with a little TLC. Bless her heart. She deals with the public on a daily basis and picked up that nasty flu bug. :(

The ROM link should be up in a few hours.

Also, gonna do things a little different this time. I'm not gonna add a huge write up on how to flash this ROM. From now on I'm just gonna give the basics. The tutorials for editing the updater-script have been written enough. I see no sense in constantly adding it to the HOW-TO when flashing the AOSP ROMs. When it boils down to it, they are all basically the same steps.

I will probably make a video tutorial on how to do it and post it at the top of the AOSP section. I've always found videos showing and explaining at the same time to be much more helpful so a video tutorial will be added soon. ;)

Bro, I actually just got it up and running, ran it for a while to make sure I wasn't having any instability and flashed back over to MOAR. I've been experimenting with just about everything on that ROM. There's a A LOT to play with and learn. :D

If I'm not mistaken, I do believe there are other complaints about camera issues in the main thread of LiquidSmooth. You might wanna give it a read through. You also have the choice of going back to one of the earlier version of that ROM and giving it a try. I know how it is..... most of us want to run the newest thing available. Sometimes that doesn't always work out. With new version come new issues. Then again, it could be something as simple as fixing permissions or pulling the camera/gallery and re-installing it. Then again, it could need a new download with a fresh install of the entire ROM.

Unfortunately I've had my hands full on the home front for the past few days and have needed something I KNOW is stable and set up for what all it will be needed to do. I plan on giving a thorough run though once I'm able. I do know this though, as far as the ROM, it's stable with no FC's, freeze ups, or random reboots. At least not while I was running. It. I must be honest though, I did not test the camera. :o

Do me a favor and let us know what you find out.

Thanks

1 more thing to add.....I also tested another ROM that I didn't have much success with. I'm going to wait until I have more time to focus on it before letting my verdict be known, which ROM it was and what issues I was having. The problem could have very well been me and not the ROM. LOL :p

My thread explains step by step how to update the baseband... The time it takes is only about 7 seconds plus download and copy/past time.

Or install a custom recovery. ..

Ps all sprint and boost base bands work without harm to the phone

I finally found something and with your Rooted MG2 recovery I was able to update radio to the MG2 Baseband and have that MG2_Rooted_recovery. Phone has better signal and its faster. Thanks Smith

FYI, that's the stock Boost baseband my Boost phone came with. Mine and many others in here.

@ iMaYG, switched back to LiquidSmooth to test the camera, it took one good picture and then I took another pic right afterwards and the phone shut off on me. I'm gonna play with it some more and see if I can find a ROM kernel combo that'll stop it from doing that before posting it.

Stock out of the box phones came with MD7... :)
The (first) ota update came with the MG2 baseband.

Pretty sure my phone had it out of the box. I did not get an OTA update when I activated my phone. I activated it, then Rooted. All within a very short time.

yeah biker is right the first month and a half they came shipped with md7. i only know this cause my sister bought one around a month and a half after me from the same boost store and hers was mg2 i found this out when i was telling her about the update and some peoples ota's where messing up there phones to my surprise she was already on the update. i agree that mg2 is also an out of the box software.

lucky biker when i got mine i was scared to do anything till i seen odin in here with working recovery.

I figured that's what happened. I lucked up when I bought my TF300T Asus tablet too. It came with Jelly Bean. I was keeping up with the section over at XDA and there were still people getting them with ICS. lol.

What did you find? Do you mind sharing in case someone else might need it?

I found a stock kies Odin file so I flashed it with Odin. I don't know much about this but I must had put a ROM with the Sprint MD4 baseband which I didn't like so I installed the full Boost mobile kies recovery to get the MG2 Baseband. Then I re-flashed your rooted_MG2_recovery. Now kies recognises the phone, I am rooted and I have the MG2 baseband. The galaxy S3 is faster and has the boost wall papers...I give credit to all you guys that strive to get us ROM's and cool apps... Every single one of you. God bless you all!!!

that is about right mine has the md7 baseband. i plan on keeping i never took the update. these phones were likely to have been reflashed and packaged sprint phones

same here never updated im still on md7 never had a need to, maybe that is where the difference in flashing roms come from because when i flashed the dirty unicorn rom i didnt need to do the apn thing it just worked. and with tw roms i just did the profile and prl updates and everything worked i did the mms fix just for the hell of it just incase any issues popped up and the updater script always worked without edit also

Well, shiver me timbers...
All that work trying to get that update to work, and I could have just asked you to copy the files from your phone.
:)

Bro, you know I would have given them to you in a heartbeat too. :)

This solves a few questions that have been running around in my head since reading the older posts from users who first purchased the S3 when Boost released it.

Just wanted to pop in here and let you guys known I haven't been slackin' on ya. Even with all this sh*t going on here, I'm still managing to get some new testing done.

I'm testing the newest Dirty Unicorns v4.0 right now. All basics are working fine. Calls, mms, sms, wifi. Still early in testing though. I'll let you guys know what's up. And yes, all the steps still need to be taken to get it working with MG2. Gotta edit the updater-script, add the Boost xml with APN Backup & Restore and all that. I've gotta admit though, this baby is blazin' fast!!! Gonna keep on testing it for a bit and let you guys knwo what's up with it.
Peace

Edit: wanted to share these shots of MOAR right quick since I had to flash back and take care of some things before restoring my Dirty Unicorns v4.0 backup. Sick huh? Lol :D
Can't wait to get DU 4.0 flashed restored. It's looking good fellas.

Yeah, yeah, I know I need to change the Sprint carrier lable on the lockscreen. LOL. It'll be changed to Wetbiker7 probably. Either that or BITE ME!. :D

Cool sounds like another daily driver so far

i was running the 4.3 yes i had 4g but when i was in a 4g area mms didnt work. while in a 3g area mms does work. if u absolutely must send an mms just switch off lte send the message and switch back on lte. no biggie other than that the rom is smooth and amazing few times i had a freeze up where the phone would just pause like a long lag no longer than like 20 seconds but i also had changed io scheduler settings and gov settings ,never really gave it a chance with stock kernel settings to see how it ran stock. this lag was only like twice in a weeks time. def a daily driver alot lighter and faster than any tw rom i ran.

I hear you might be able to do 4G and then use Go SMS for MMS and set up The Go SMS app its self with boost settings
