Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

I only need to remove the bootloader asserts, correct?

Correct, down to where it says something about mount("ext4", "EMMC". Just above that though are all the assert lines, just remove those, move the line up so there is no space. Save it and let the zip redo itself, and your set.

You can do all this without extracting the file btw, not sure you knew :).

On a side note and hopefully not off topic.....since I fixed the nav bar issue, everything is running buttery smooth, haven't had a single issue so far.

I just removed the bootloader asserts and left the device check asserts in place. Just a lil safety precaution so I don't flash it to one of the other phones by accident LOL

Glad the nav bar issue is better for you. I'm looking into mods for the lockscreen... I'll let you know what I come up with.

AOSB up and running SMOOTH! The APN fix seemed to do the trick, I was able to call and set up voicemail, 4g and everything working well so far! I'll update after a abuse it for a while!

Yeah keep us updated I like the looks of it might run it how's battery life so far because on carbon it's terrible

I've only been running it for almost 3 hours but it's taking everything I throw at it... It did reboot on me once when I started installing ALL my apps LOL from Play. I don't know how many were DL at once, but it was a lot! Battery really didn't drop much during setup besides installing apps. With the phone completely set up, launcher, apps, etc including calling and text testing I'm at 70 percent. I'm going to full charge then test battery while using normally... I was not charged completely when I flashed. I'll keep you posted...

Trying out the newest Ktoonsez Kernel for 4.3 on WS .4

Using Ktoonservative governor.

So far, so good. It installs the Ktweaker app too. Don't forget to uninstall Trickster Mod if you were using DKP before the flash.

Don't know if it is better than DKP yet, but I will give it a better test tomorrow.

It does have the kernel splash and allows a boot audio to play with the WS boot animation that was not playing before.

I wiped Cache and Dalvik. But I did not try to fix permissions.

Thanks for testing the different kernels. I haven't messed with mine yet, but I am itching.

Thanks for testing the different kernels. I haven't messed with mine yet, but I am itching.

Newest WS comes with newest DKP. Runs great.

MOAR has a few kernel options. I don't think it has the newest DKP.

No problems with Ktoonsez yet. I always liked the Ktweaker app.

The biggest issue I had with DKP might have been Wifi. Not sure since I don't use much of it, but some people reported problems. I had problems with weak signals. I will see how Ktoonsez responds to them tomorrow.

Also, on cold mornings my Bluetooth would skip sometimes with the phone in my jacket pocket unless I put my hand in my pocket with it.

Weird, I know. But pretty consistent. Of course, tomorrow is not going to be cold (56 vs 30) and I am running WS instead of MOAR 8. So, the kernel is not the only change.

Still using the same cheap headphones, though.

Seems another rom has the battery drain bug....I'm on a ZL 7000mAh battery and already down to 65% and that's with base usage nothing over bearing at all. From looking at the battery stats it seems to have some really bad spikes that look like cliff dives in battery usage. Not sure what causes them but I've tested with apps installed and with the rom itself and nothing else installed, same results. Perhaps it's KK, perhaps it's a kernel thing not sure, just know it's a noticeable amount.

That brings me to my other question, what is with all the kernels recently. If I don't really do overclocking or messing with cpu stuff or anything, would it benefit me to use other kernels?
i'm always afraid to add new stuff because then when you have issues, it's hard to track down and it adds more stuff you have to keep track of, so adding kernel into the mix adds another thing to track down.

After reading some about kernels other than what I currently know about them, the main reason to use a kernel for most of the people is for cpu stuff IE: overclock, underclock, undervolt, etc....and I do none of this.
From my limited knowledge of kernel stuff from the PC end of things, and being as I HAVE overclocked a few times......actually got 4ghz out of a 2.8ghz amd cpu once....almost double....it was a nice stable cool increase and I was amazed beyond belief. Sadly though I had to put some compound on the cpu and heatsink so when I put the heatsink back on, sadly I cracked the cpu :(....I was VERY sad, as that was my most impressive to date for an overclock.....but from my limited knowledge of this stuff, I think the roms are experimenting with cpu stuff and kernels, and that would explain why CM11 does so well on battery life, while other roms seem to have a really hard time with battery life as of lately. If it were me I'd be like moar and add in a stock kernel as an option to use, as apposed to forcing the rom to use different kernel tweaks and cpu tweaks....give the option to the user and let the user sort things out.
Again this is just a guess on my part but it sure seems to be a trend with the last few roms from devs of battery life suffering quite a bit.

I just thought of another question.....is it possible to get a stock kernel that comes with this phone?, to save aside in case I suspect a rom using a different kernel or not liking the kernel that the rom is using at the time, to replace it with the saved stock kernel

This roms battery life is great I had a few fc and one freeze and reboot but I really like it I'm going to be running this for a while

I noticed on AOSB the biggest battery drain besides the screen is the keyboard. I disabled several settings in the AOSP and Google keyboards and it has helped drastically... I don't have a good way to tame the screen, guess it just uses lots of power...

I have not had another reboot since the one in the beginning, and no more FC either once I got it set up. Maybe Dalvik just needed time to build... But I'm loving the ROM!

Mines not horrible by any means but for a 7k mAh battery to drop to 66% in just 8 hrs is a little bit of a drain, and mind you this is moderate usage, not even high. That essentially means I'de get about 16-20 hours, at most a day at this rate, when on moar I got almost 3-4 days....so there is definitely a drain some place. It's happening in a lot of roms lately with this 4.4.x rom releases. I had it in bean, slim and now here, although not as terrible as bean and slim still has a noticeable drain, just it's not AS noticeable now with this huge battery.

Hey, I know this is totally the wrong place to post this, but I think I found something. Go to settings, activate device, then push volume down three times. I get IOT Hidden Menu. ANYONE else seeing this? I'm running wicked sensations 4.1.2, wondering if this is a stock thing or not...

Yeah that's a cm bug the keyboard killing your battery but I use SwiftKey pro so that fixes that problem

I found the same hidden menu in MOAR 8 after reading this. Is this the hidden menu we would have to use the dialer to get to previously.

Edit: I was going through all the different settings in there and when I clicked the last one it rebooted my phone and is now trying to activate it. I force stop it and it stops but reboot re starts the app. Oh well maybe test a nrw rom tonight before I restore this set up

Idk why but most of these 4.4 roms make the phone heat up fast I usually pull the battery let it cool then change the governor to ondemad that helps me

On moar I couldn't get a day lbs and I use greenify and hibernated everything used es task manager and disabled some apps on start up and at the most I could get maybe 11hrs

AOSB 8 hours normal use at work and I'm at 71%. Couple calls. Texting. Email. Checking here and XDA. It's all smooth! Disabling a few things in keyboards fixed the drain.

Edit: It's been over 12 hours. Many more email and text, phone calls, google maps, voice search and about 150 shots with camera and flash... Still at 43%...

Yeah Idk this roms battery life is funny it'll drop from like 90 to 70 and it'll sit at 70 for a couple of hours lol

I'm trying to pin point that... First don't let it search for WiFi when you're not using it.... After the keyboard fix. I'll post a how to about battery life when I get a minute. I'm at 19 hours now with 16%. stock battery.

Have a couple questions, I have RocketPlayer and PowerAmp Music Players installed. On both of these players, for some reason they pick up all my ringtones, alarms, notifications with the rest of my songs. Also, with es file explorer, I have tried to find what folder my songs are in but I can't seem to find them. I have checked the music folder on both the sd card and internal storage, both of these folders are empy. I have also checked numerous other folders without success, anyone have any suggestions?

Your ringtones, etc should be under system/media/audio. As for your other music, the songs are in whatever folder you placed them. I label my folder music or sd music and transfer it to my sd card from my pc. That way I know where my almost 5 gigs of music are. As for getting the media players to pick the folder up, a reboot is HIGHLY recommended. Especially if your music folder is large. ;)

Thanks for the response. I did not move my songs, I downloaded from the amazon site to the phone. I only have about 15 to 20 songs but don't know where they are when they were downloaded. Also, I want my music players to only pick up my songs, not all the ringtones, etc.

Hmmmm. They've gotta be in your regular "download" folder or under the Amazon folder somewhere. Trust me..... if you are playing them then they are there. Keep searching and you'll find them.

As for not picking up your ringtones, you'll have to set up a filter if possible.

Ok, I did find them, they are in the Amazon MP3 folder. As for not picking up my ringtones, rocketplayer only has the option to scan the sd card or internal storage, which it still picks up my ringtones. Poweramp allows me to instruct it to scan only a particular folder, which does work. Thanks
