Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

Update on SlimKat - everything is smooth as glass, 4g excellent, mms all good using 8sms, no hiccups, no lag, no fc or reboots, excellent battery life. It's all gravy! For those of you that can't see small text you'll probably want to change dpi in build.prop or use a dpi changing app - but this thing looks amazing as is!

I remember running slimkat a while back it was a very good ROM my initial reaction I kinda thought it was buggy or something because the text was so small freaked me out lol but I read and learned that's one of the features pretty interesting

Right now I'm really liking this resurrection remix rom getting ready to go run aicp again see if it's more stable

UPDATE!!

Great news from both DAZED and BILGERRYAN. Since Dazed has built the final build of WS, he is now going to allow Ryan to use the mods from the Wicked Sensations ROM and add them in with the Project-X ROM. This is going to be great for TouchWiz users! I can't wait to see the end product. Holy smokes people......... this will be epic!

I just finally installed my first custom TW rom. MOAR. But was looking to try another. Maybe I'll give project a run. :)

MOAR is a great ROM. Wicked Sensations is amazing too. It's what I'm running right now and is my personal favorite for TouchWiz ROMs.

Right now, Project-X is a great ROM.
It's going to be a bit before Ryan gets the Wicked Sensation mods added. Once he does, Project-X is going to be epic! I'm definitely looking forward to its release.

New Wicked Sensations / Project-X ROM in the works has now been named Wicked Project-X. Ryan already has it in the works and has posted a few screenies in his thread.

I don't know about you guys but I'm stoked!

I'm getting more and more into the tw roms. Used to love aosp but there are too many hoops or things not quite right about them. Love slim but the camera picture quality isn't up to par. Went back to moar and I'll probably try wicked tomorrow.

Please give Wicked Sensations a try. It truly is an awesome ROM. Also, if you like green and purple, give the GURPLE theme a try. It's my favorite. The ROM also has 5 or 6 more themes available for it.

I want to go ahead and give you a little heads up on the MyHub app.

When using MyHub, make sure you use the icon located in the app drawer. The 1st thing you will need to do after entering a screen name is to tap the settings on your phone to bring up the the MyHub settings. You will need to select your recovery. If you're running Philz then select CWM. The only benefit of running TWRP with this ROM is that it allows the majority of the mods in MyHub to be flashed directly from the app. Running Philz or CWM will require you to download the mod and then boot into recovery, navigate to the MyHub folder, locate your mod, theme, or whatever you downloaded. Once you've done that, you flash it. It's very easy and the amount of mods, themes, and Widgets is impressive. :D The app may force close once in awhile but don't worry about it. It's just one of those things. I haven't had mine force close in ages.

The is also a version of the newest dkp kernel with the Wicked Sensations flash screen added. It can be found in the ROM thread. Its what I use and it runs great.

If you have any questions about the ROM, please don't hesitate to ask. I love this ROM and know it well. I'll be happy to answer or try and answer any questions you may have concerning it.

One last thing. You will need to flash the MK3 modem for this ROM or you won't have any data. There are excellent installation instructions in the OP. :D

After you flash the rom and get it all up and working you can then flash the mk5 modem. That is what I'm using now and all works just fine.

Thanks Cwhatever. I had heard that the MK5 modem would work but I've been using the MK3 modem since it's what the instructions call for. I have also had good cell reception with MK3. I may just give MK5 a try just to see if there is any noticeable difference.

As always bro, thanks for your great information. :)

Heck, I'm gonna flash MK5 right now and give it a try. Hahahaha, you know me bro, I'm always up for seeing if better signal is available. Off to flash me a new modem! :D

Edit: just flashed the MK5 modem and it's working perfectly. My signal actually seems to be the same. Did a speed test and it was about average. I'll stay on MK5 for a few days and see how it does in my area. Hopefully it will be better than MK3. :D

I'm on mk5 now but should flash mk3 prior then relfash 5? I have to take my monsters to school but I'll give it a go when I get back home. Two hour drive to take them to school. Ugh. Lol

MK5 and MK3 are essentially the same modem, the reason you see MK3 suggested in the Sprint XDA threads for TW based ROMs is just that, it is the Sprint forum, so they don't care about the VM/Boost modem(s).

Thanks for clearing that up. I just assumed (I know what happens lol) that the MK3 was a previous version and MK5 was the newest. I flashed MK5 and never looked back. Now I will just continue to ignore the "must be on MK3" line in the OPs. :)

Edit: I love your signature. I had never seen it before due to being on tapatalk usually but it's the best I've seen so far as donation signatures go.

Thanks man! Just to clear up one more thing about modems/radios, I think this will help; the naming convention is as follows:
First letter=year of build (M=2013)
Second letter=month of build (K=November)
Final number=day of month

So MK3 and MK5, Sprint and VM/Boost respectively, are only a couple of days apart, as in Samsung released the working build for Sprint and then promptly released ours. Therefore, builds that have virtually the same name for the same generic designation phone (in our case SPH-L710) are essentially the same modem/radio. I can pretty much guarantee this will happen again when "official" KitKat is released by Samsung. A word of warning when that happens though, from what I've read, I would be willing to bet that taking the "official" update to 4.4.x will be one of the worst things a rooted user can do. In general, one of the golden rules for root users is to avoid OTA's. And in this case, with the combination of Knox and SELinux being set by default to Enforcing (instead of Permissive), regaining root might be extremely hard, and I also suspect that devs who focus on TW based ROMs might start to jump ship as well, which will be a bad combination for the segment of the rooted community who like the TW version of things. Remember, development is hindered or encouraged by two main factors: devs owning the device in question, and the degree of cooperation from the OEM's. AOSP development will probably keep going strong, but even that might start to tail off a bit, due to the age of the SGS3. Just my two cents, ChainFire (who has predicted dire things for the rooted community in general when Android 5.0 releases) will probably come up with some genius innovation, but enjoy the current state of development while you can!

Yeah once I got my sgs3 I started reading everything I could before doing any official updates or making any moves in rooting and modifying it. Luckily, as of a few weeks to a month ago, the Boost SGS3 is still shipped pre-knox. And just as lucky I didn't take the OTA. I've been on android phones long enough to know better. I used to run Dirty Unicorns on my Evo 3D and Mazda did awesome things with that. I'll most likely try the version for our phone next. I'm a flashaholic. Simply can't help myself. lol. I will be taking no updates from Boost, ever, as I know that all it can do is make my phone worse. Anything good from it will be eventually released by a dev who strips out the garbage.

+1 on not taking any OTA updates period. The last one introduced Knox and it's only gonna get worse people.

One things for sure, the next phone I get after the S3 will be purchased after doing tons of research. I am not going to spend $300 + on a phone that ends up with a dead development scene. ;)

Edit :

Just wanted to add that I'm not leaving the S3 anytime soon. I'm actually very happy with this phone. The upcoming combination of Wicked Sensations & Project-X is something that I'm definitely looking forward to. :D:D:D

I hate to say it but with technology the way it is and the way it's going, everything will come to an end because there will always be something newer and better out there that people want. Just like when new roms come out everyone has to try it, if you like it and it works right, you'll stick with it until something better comes along, just like when a newer better phone comes out people just have to have it. Think back 10 years ago, it was a bag phone and a beeper, now look what we have. Wonder what the future will hold even 5 years from now. So just enjoy what you have now for sure. LOL!!!!

Yeah I'm right with you'll I'll have the s3 for a while unless unless boost gets that new HTC one M8 just saying it's nice lol

I love the amount of people we have on the forms and constantly able to discover new roms because our phone has been out for a while

What I don't love is how tw roms in the general destroy my battery I went back to moar and couldn't even last a whole day and I wasn't really using the phone to last a day plus I would have to greenify and freeze apps ect just annoys me slightly, it's like when I flash a tw rom I hear the guy from mortal combat saying "Finish him".............. " Fatality" to my battery at 20% lol Flawless victory lol oh tw

LOL! Bro, you just brought back some fun memories from when I used to play Mortal Combat. FATALITY! LMAO!! Good one. :D

I've had good luck with Wicked Sensations and the dkp kernel. After tweaking the kernel, I've actually gotten very good battery life from that ROM. One thing that I have noticed is that Xposed Framework, with a good bit of its mods running , will drain the battery faster.

Have you tried Wicked Sensations?

Other things that I do to help with battery drain are to tweak the wifi settings. I turn off most of those options. One of the main options that will pull juice is the one that keeps the phone constantly looking for a wifi signal. I turn that one off. GPS is another that I disable unless it's needed. There are the other little tweaks like freezing apps which you mentioned. Lowering the screen brightness is another battery saver I use when I'm out and about. As long as I don't stay on the phone all the time, battery drain isn't very bad.

Unfortunately, staying off the phone isn't an easy thing for me to sometimes. I'm very thankful a good friend sent me one of his Zerolemon batteries. Even with heavy use, using the battery saving tweaks usually gets me quite a few days out of one charge.

Just using the OEM stock battery, it takes me 2 to get through the day with very heavy usage. I'll usually use 1 and half of the other.

You mentioned the M8. I've actually read several posts here at AF and over at XDA where members were talking about this phone. I have yet to see it. As soon as I finish this post I'm going to check it out and read up on its specs. It must be a nice one.

EDIT:

I just read up on the HTC One M8. Wow! A very nice phone indeed. I like the boomsound speaker set up as well as the brushed aluminum case. Too bad that that beautiful case won't be seen because most owners will wrap it in a case. I don't blame them either because that sucker is expensive! Even if Boost ended up with this phone I doubt very seriously I would even be able to afford it. It's a very nice device. Sadly, the price tag reflects just how nice it is. LOL.

I'm very happy with my S3 and have a good feeling this will be my daily driver for several years to come unless something unforseen happens. One things for sure, there's still a good bit of development going on for this phone and I hope it continues. :)

Yeah I'll have to tweak the kernel I had dkp tw kernel running but it was still a pretty moderate drain, I like browsing and use bluetooth a lot and read appy geek so I use it moderate not heavy enough for it to be draining like it was lol so I went back to Omni rom in getting ready to probably go back to Carbon rom

This is really the only phone I see my self upgrading to because the s3 is already really good with strong development as you said
I just don't understand why boost always gets the phones that most people don't really want the M8 blows the s5 out of the water in every aspect expect the back camera with those weird ultra pixels not mega so I've watched reviews were people love the camera or just don't like it at all but that's how the last HTC one m7 camera was so it is what it is at least the front camera is a 5 mega pixels really interesting. I'm content with my s3 but if boost gets the phone I might buy it but then again they probably won't get it lol and if they do it won't be the version I want I want that Google play edition with the unlocked bootloader and stock android :-) that would be a dream

I may have a fix for the bad battery life, but I can't do it myself.

Back on the ZTE Warp, one of our members, Mercury0x000d, made a script called "PowerNap". What it does is that it locks the phone on a low set of frequencies on a certain governor to save power when the screen is off. I took the script and added it to my ROM after modifying it to put the phone to only 122-248 MHz when the screen is off on Conservative. However, the script was for Gingerbread stock ROM, and when I added it to a Jelly Bean ROM it boot looped. I can post my version of the script on here if you like. My Warp went 21 hours on a single charge with light to light-normal use with 30% at the end of the day most of the time, and about 40% after 8 hours of normal use at the end of the day. If someone on here is willing, I'll post the script and we can try making it work on the stock ROMs. Then maybe we could try and get it functioning in the AOSP ROMs too to improve overall battery life.

Hey biker i remember reading something that said it doesnt matter if im on mk3 or mk5 with the newer roms. Wicked project x recomends mk3. Should i switch back to mk3? I believe what i read was they were the same, mk3 was sprint and mk5 was virgin and boost or vice versa just wondering.

You should be able to use MK5. Otherwise just give it a shot and see what happens.
