Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

On a side note - after about a week of running LiquidSmooth the issues are building... Many random reboots - even with phone just sitting on the table... Lockups requiring battery pull - completely random... lost MMS for no reason... and yes of course I fully clean flashed. Everything was cool for a couple days. Perhaps an issue with cache management? Oh well, I was going to try to catch a log and report on XDA but seems no one reads your posts there until you hit the 500 post mark... So guess it's time to try Slim!

I hope this doesn't effect some custom roms like moar...

BstFreeMsg: Starting 5/6/14, if you use over 2.5GB of data during your mo. plan cycle, data speeds will now be reduced to 2G speeds. Info at http://msg4u.us/nee

2g speeds? really? Huh?

The last build I ran of Liquidsmooth ran excellent. I can't pull up the exact build but it was less than a week and a half old.

One thing I found out while running my very 1st Android phone was that even though the phone was a Prevail and there were many members with that same model phone, some of those devices just would not work properly with a ROM or mod while others had no issues at all. It's just one of those things that I've seen happen on quite a few occasions bro. If you know you've done everything properly from flash to finish and you're still getting issues, the best bet would be to try different kernels and kernel settings or to try a different build. That, or do what you mentioned in your post, try another ROM. I tried Slim and it ran well for me the short time I ran it. OmniRom and AICP are some other good options that ran great for me. Don't feel bad either bro because it's happened to others as well. Thankfully we have many nice ROMs to choose from. With all the choices we have, I'm sure you'll find one that will run well on your phone.

If you keep having problems with ROMs that are known to run well, you may want to try different SD card. ;)

I wish you luck on finding a ROM. :)

I hope this doesn't effect some custom roms like moar...

Yup. I got that text awhile back. 2G? WTH? So much for that unlimited plan we pay for. They can get away with it because they aren't actually stopping our data usage. Heck bro, they might as well be stopping it if they're dropping it to 2G. What a joke.

Time for bed. Gotta get up early for another Dr's appointment. Have a great evening everyone. :)

Don't be so ready to jump ship... Lemme tell ya a little story.

So, my first android was a ZTE Warp N860. Being new to android I was kinda confused why I had random reboots, poor battery life and general crap performance from a mid spec phone... I searched online and found lots of questions in forums with almost no answers.

Well, then Boost dropped the price... Then we had a dev. Then another. Then another... then I started learning about android... Then we had root and recovery, then the roms poured in - gingerbread :) Well, ICS kinda got skipped and JB development started - all on a phone that the manufacturer said couldn't handle JB. Now it's in KK development. Why, because it's affordable. Even now the Warp N860 root forum has more activity than we do here - because the phone is more affordable. Money is the only thing preventing more devs to work on this phone - Boost variant in particular.

I'm trying to adapt what I learned to the S3 - it's a process for someone with little experience... I am making progress though and hopefully will be able to help the community. Once the price of the S3 comes down to a realistic level I have a feeling we will end up with plenty of dev support. But - as a dev you can't buy one of every phone out there to build for and test on... The S3 is a solid device. Once it's affordable, I see good things :)

i really dont see this phone coming down much in price especially with the s5 coming to boost. i think there just gonna drop it all together just my opinion. the s2 is still there but the warp 2 is not and the s2 was a crap phone compared to the warp 2 again just my opinion.

adapting what you learned from a zte to a samsung be careful zte is still learning android there selves lol.

and what i mean is i dont think theres much more we can do with this phone. i miss my prevail that thing never ceased to amaze me. we would go like three months of nothing and them bam another ct mod with more features added prolly never be a phone like that again. started out as a low end device but by the time the devs were done with it ide say it was a midrange device with low end specs.

Were you running a custom kernel or stock cause i ran it for like a week (not sure if its the same build u used) and i didnt run into any problems.i was on the 3/8 build. one of the best aosp roms ive run in a while.

hey smith you running moar v9? if so could you do something for me switch your battery icon to ultimate and use it for like a day and let me know if your getting this graphical glitch im getting. heres what happens randomly through out the day the icon will switch to stock battery and back to ultimate like a quick flash but only with this battery icon its some thing i noticed with v8 also. it will happen between apps meaning when i switch from one app to another from the recents list it does it. if yours does it also it will put my mind at ease that its not my set up its just the rom its self. ive changed kernals and everything trying to get rid of it. its not really a big deal but it kinda grabs my eye when it happens its getting annoying.

Been running it for about 15 minutes and it seems solid... I'll run it for a couple days and see if I catch a glimpse of a glitch.

UPDATE!!

ADDED [ROM][MK3] PROJECT X v4.3 TO THE OP UNDER 4.3 ROMS. THIS LOOKS LIKE A NICE ROM PEOPLE. I'LL BE GIVING IT A TRY TONIGHT.

THERE ARE A FEW MINOR BUGS WHICH ARE LISTED IN THE OP. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ IT BEFORE YOU POST ABOUT THEM. WHEN I SAY MINOR, I MEAN VERY MINOR.

________________________________________________________

ADDED LINK TO A THREAD FOR A REALLY NICE LOOKING BOOTANIMATION UTILITY THAT CONTAINS NEARLY 400 BOOTANIMATIONS!!!!
THE UTILITY ALLOWS YOU TO DO QUITE A FEW THINGS. (RESIZE ANIMATIONS,SEND VIA ADB, ADD YOUR OWN ANIMATIONS, AND MORE!!)

I WAS DOING A LITTLE SEARCHING AND RAN ACROSS THIS. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD VIA STANDARD DOWNLOAD OR YOU CAN DOWNLOAD VIA TORRENT. I USED TORRENT 1 AND MY DOWNLOAD WAS BLAZING FAST!!

THIS HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE "B00TANIMATIONS & THEMES" SECTION.:D

NOTE!!
THIS UTILITY CAN ONLY BE USED WITH WINDOWS.

EDIT- This utility connects directly to the phone. From what I've seen just playing with it in the past 5 minutes is that CWM is needed in order for the utility to transfer the bootanimation to the system folders. It does have the ADB feature but I have not tried it yet and probably won't until tomorrow.

Kinda strange... Everything was slick for a week then it went downhill. No changes made on my end. It just started to break lol and I tried dkp with the same results. A reflash cured all but I moved to SlimKat and I'm loving it. Battery life is amazing. Last night was at 64% after almost 19 hrs.

nice havnt givien slimkat a try yet but if i decide to go aosp again i will def give it a try. im using moar v9 for right now like my battery life so far im going from 7am one morning to 3 pm the next afternoon. these are not stock settings tho i use dkp with trickster and i underclock to 1.2 with the free lunch governor and the i/o set to zen also under volted. mind you this is with minimal use and my stock battery some browsing mostly texting no gaming like 30 mins in calls very minimal use. i also have the zero lemon but i only use it when im gonna be away from a charger for a while.i have an over clock profile when im on that battery seeing as battery is not a worry.

I have followed Ryan since the boost galaxy s2 version of his rom. I must say it is one of the smoothest roms I've used.

It's definitely a nice ROM. It's gonna be interesting to see what else he does with it now that he's brought it to the S3. I have a feeling there will be some nice mods added in the future.

If you're using one of the recommended gapps there shouldn't be a problem. I use the advised PA gapps but there are others you can use. The modem you're using shouldn't stop you from flashing. It would just effect your getting data. Maybe try downloading the gapps package again?

Awesome ! Thanks wetbiker7 i got liquidsmooth and Gaaps to flash, i had the wrong Gaaps. im new to custom roms so i was doing alot of reading so i could get it right. i rooted my old galaxy s2 but never flashed any roms. its seems to be getting a little more involved what roms do you recommend for newbies to try first. also do you need Gaaps for M,O.A.R and Wicked sensation roms Thanks again

its showing sprint network, how do you get it over to boost ? off to do some more reading thanks

no you do not need a gapps package with moar and wicked sensations nor any touchwiz rom. only aosp require gapps. and welcome welcome welcome your catch on reading pays off

I just answered your PM about the Sprint network. It's OK if your phone says that. These are Sprint ROMs we are running and the phone is gonna say it's on the Sprint network. Boost is actually a part of the Sprint network. We run off their towers.

As Kevin said, you only need GAPPS with AOSP based ROMs. Touchwiz ROMs do not require them.

As for Touchwiz ROMs, MOAR, Wicked Sensations and the brand new ROM, Project-X are all good. There are also some others mentioned in the beginning of this thread that are Touchwiz. All of the ones listed here run well with our phones. The ones I've mentioned above are the cream of the crop IMO.

Very nice to see you are getting the hang of things too!!! :D

The main thing you ALWAYS need to remember is to READ THE ENTIRE OP OF THE ROM YOU ARE ABOUT TO FLASH. You will also want to check this thread and other threads here on Android Forums to see if there is anything extra that needs to be done in order to get your phone fully functional with a Sprint ROM while you are using a Boost phone. ;)

i really like the liquidsmooth Rom but i keep getting a pop up saying unfortunately com.android has stopped working, and it wont stop. so i just downloaded and flashed the wicked Rom and loving it. wow, this is a nice Rom ! i love it when everything goes smooth and you reboot into awesomeness. Thanks for the help and pointing me in the right direction :D

Wicked Sensations is awesome. I think you'll love it. If you have any questions about it, shoot me a PM or post it here. :)

Well guys, after testing the new ROM, Project-X. I've found it to be very well built and runs great with its dkp kernel. It has a lot of great options and will make a great choice for anyone looking for a nice TouchWiz ROM.

I like Project-X but decided to flash back to Wicked Sensations. There's something about this ROM and the GURPLE theme that draws me to it like a magnet. I love me some WS and GURPLE! :D

Newest Quantum kernel 03/28 running great.

Don't freak out when you do your first backup with the new Philz. At the end it scrolls through the checksum generation and after it is finished it displays it.

Trying out a new Xposed mod for gestures. There is a paid version but I think that the free is plenty for me. I like it better than others I have tried recently. Except maybe the old LMT.
