Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

When you say handcent, I'm assuming, you mean any of the third party sms/mms apps. Just wanted to clarify as I haven't used it yet but plan to soon. The rom. Not necessarily the app. I'm assuming things like hangouts or evolve would work as well?

Yes that's the app I don't like it personally either but it gets the job done

I can't really say as far as hangouts or evolve because I've never tried them all I can say is just test it and see if it takes a long time to send or continuously says sending it probably won't send

I use hoverchat(ninja sms) and it's my default massaging app because I use mms but when I do I just switch over

Chompsms is a nice messaging app that allows you to change its settings

OK guys. I've got good news on the AICP ROM. I've been running it since last night and it's running great. It has a lot of extra features too. I flashed the Quantum kernel and it's running like a champ. As far as 4g, I have not been able to test it. Wifi and 3g work great

If any of you out there are looking for a nice AOSP ROM, give AICP a try. Of course I recommend flashing the Quantum kernel with it too. LOL. AICP is also doing nightly builds. That's is what I'm running. :D:thumbup:

I'm going to give Omni a run but will definitely give this a run after that one. I'll just have to get over my irritation with having to use third party apps for things that are built in like texting lol. I've always avoided using these roms for that reason. Nit picking I know. I have OCD what can I say? lol.

I might also flash MIUI again just so I can take screens of the options I choose to make 4g work. I had to mess with different setting combinations to make it work so I get where someone might get confused about it lol.

I actually prefer Chompsms. I even donated and have the ad free edition. Chompsms saved me back when I was using the Marquee running CTMod . I couldn't get MMS to work with any apps. Chompsms was the only thing that would allow me to use MMS and I'm a big MMS user. Just ask Wyelkins. LOL. I'm always sending pics to him, my wife and my other friends. Chompsms also has a lot of things you can customize which is another big plus in my book.:D

I haven't tried Omni yet but I have a feeling I'm gonna be flashing it soon after reading all the good stuff about it.

I think you'll like AICP too. It has a lot of options. I can't test 4g with it though. Hopefully someone who's tried it will let us know how well 4g works with it.

Yeah I'm a huge mms sender as well. I swear I might send and receive more of those than normal texts. Such is the life when you have kids haha. I used to use gosms ages ago when running certain roms back on my triumph and optimus v. I was looking at evolve and might try that one. I liked the look of it. Very clean and simple. Who knows. I'll probably try them all lol.

If no one has tested 4g on AICP by time I'm done with Omni I'll give it a test. Not sure on time though as I'm heading down to California tomorrow evening to work through off the stuff of a passing family member. Someone will be bound to test 4g before I get a chance.

The main reason I switched roms was because I had no 4g on liquid smooth after flashing one of there nightlys

So I found a different rom Omni rom

I know I'm late but I didn't see your post if you want fully functional you meaning getting 4G flash the zip on the first page under the asop section

If you lost 4g it's the ROM not the zip recently cm and even builds of liquid smooth messed up the data and asob is based off cm builds so that explains why you lost 4g only way to get it back would be to do a full reinstall of the ROM that you had 4g on flashing the zip does nothing if the ROM messed up that's why it's important to make backups

Try Omni rom I've been running it for almost a week haven't had any issues

To get mms you have to use handcent and go under the mms configuration section or whatever it's called and edit it to boost mms settings you have to I repeat have a to use mms to send and receive mms or the message will fail why I don't know and mms works over 4g 3g or wifi if you configure it and use handcent to send and receive

The Camara working is all up to how stable the ROM your running is once again Omni roms camera is fine

This is the only only way you'll get a fully functional rom no work arounds it's a few extra steps but nothing crazy remember if you flash a rom flash then flash the 4G apn fix zip and you don't have 4g don't panic it might be an rom issue you could go back to an earlier build or try another rom

On Omni rom I currently have 4g mms and no bugs but they are nightly builds so it might change that's the risk you take when running 4.4.2 roms

Thanks for the reply... I'll clarify. I have been running AOSB ( after removing asserts, flashing APN fix which didn't stick, manually changing APNs and rebuilding telephony db) for more than a month without upgrading to a newer build. After over a month I noticed I no longer had 4g or mms. Reflashing apn fix did not help so instead of reflashing the same build or trying a newer build I figured I would try another rom.

About AOSB - I loved the rom. FAST ( I even underclocked ) and lots of options! No random reboots and only 1 fc I could duplicate in the settings menu. Something you would never use anyway that just wasn't integrated yet. I did flash a newer version just to see what happened and with the 4g fix and using 8sms all was perfect. I HIGHLY recommend this rom. But, as a flashaholic I decided to play around.

I downloaded the latest Liquid Smooth nightly and also the latest Slim (which I should have waited on while I play with Liquid ;) cause it's smooth!) After the apn fix and setting up mms in Chomp it works perfectly and 4g is perfect. I have had one random reboot while ending a phone call - but could not duplicate.

Reading all the XDA threads it seems someone in every ROM thread is saying no data, no mms, no 4g or something... hence my question. Is there anything out there yet based on AOSP that works out of the box? No importing the camera from Vanir... No using Chomp or 8smsm... No flashing apn fix... No modifying device checks or asserts... Or is this something we might be able to put together and integrate into roms for Boost?

Anyway, I'm going to play with LS for a few days before I try Slim. Omni is next, been on my 'want' list for a while :) In the mean time I would like to thank each and every dev who has put their valuable time into improving the Android experience! And also to every user who tests, gives feedback, helps other users and keeps this community growing!

HiiiPowers, I see your post about the Omni ROM and how highly you speak of it. I want to try it but I've got some questions 1st before I try the Omni ROM.

I'm looking at the 2/20 build. That looks like it's the latest.

I read the thread and it says the ROM is unrooted and that I'll have to flash SuperSU. That's no biggie. What I am curious about are the other folders on the main download page. There's the ROM zip and then there are 3 others above it. One says HOMEMADE.update, one says HOMEMADE.sign, & the other says HOMEMADE.delta. What are these for? Are they needed and have you flashed them?

Thanks for your help. :)

omni-4.4.2-20140317-d2lte-HOMEMADE.zip is the one I'm about to flash. I'll let you know how it goes. *dives in* lol.

LMAO!!!! OK bro. Ya know..... I'm gonna go ahead and flash it too. WTH!! I'm a big boy and I darn sure know how to save my phone if anything goes wrong. :D

In a Southern twang....... if ya skeered.... stay on the porch while the big dawgs play.

You and I my friend, are the big dawgs. LOL!!!

Flashing now.

OK bro. I'm good 2 go. Up and running. Getting ready to DL Titanium and restore my apps. :D

I haven't tried before on one of these types of roms but do you know why, even after being converted to a system app, that apn restore & backup is denied permission to delete or write apn to the phone? Another annoyance lol. It's how I was able to get mms working properly with the stock messaging app on MIUI. Just curious.

It's really smooth and fast btw. I'm loving it. Flashed your recommended kernel as well.

Decided to try 8sms but when I go into mms settings it's all grayed out. I can't even edit the settings to make them correct. Weird. Anyway just noting that.

Chompsms works though. And I like it. Glad I went through and tried so many though. Had been forever since I had tried, or needed to try, a third party app for texts.

Yup. It's looking like the APN Restore app isn't working with some of these KitKat ROMs. I had the same problem with it before. No worries though because it isn't needed. ;)

Some of these ROMs don't require you to even mess with the APN settings to send MMS. Others require that you set them. You just have to test MMS right after flashing a ROM to see if it needs fixing. I've been using the sprintpcs settings for awhile now. I checked the 1st time I noticed that MMS was working on a KitKat 4.4.2 ROM without modding and it was set to sprintpcs. I've checked with WyElkins and a few others and they have the same settings which are working perfectly.

I had an issue the other day when testing a ROM and I used the settings menu in Chompsms to enter the sprintpcs.com setting. It fixed me right up too.

If you would like a screenshot of the settings I'm running, I'll be more than happy to post it for you. I've posted it a few times already but it would be easier to re-post it here than to go back and dig around to find it. Just let me know bro. I'll be more than happy to post it for you. :)

Glad you're liking everything so far. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. If I don't know the answer I'm sure someone else will. We've got a great group of people in here, that's for sure! :D

Sure I wouldn't mind seeing your settings. I didn't even test mms before messing with it. If it does work I might go back and do a fresh flash lol

Here ya go.

Couldn't I, if I wanted to, replace the apn file in the flashable zip before moving it to my phone so I wouldn't have to worry about this? Same with the 4g fix? Or would that cause issues during the flashing process?

Having never tried it, I don't know.

Here's the thing that's got me very curious. ............ Why in the world are some of us getting these sprintpcs settings which allow MMS to work right after flashing a ROM while others are not?

I don't know, but since you got me on Chomp and fixed my dyslexic APN settings I have not had any MMS problems.

I keep it set for the Sprint settings.

Sometimes I feel like that is cheating but I like Chomp and don't miss using the stock app.

I agree Wy. I much prefer Chompsms over the stock app. Chompsms has a lot more features than the stock app has to offer. :D

Ok. I was wondering because these are the flashing instructions. I went ahead and flashed the SuperSU zip just in case when I originally flashed it. I ran the Omni ROM for awhile last night and it ran great. I went ahead and flashed back to Liquidsmooth but made a backup of Omni in case I decide to flash it while I'm in the city to check LTE since you said it had no problems at all picking up LTE and keeping the signal. Thanks :)

HOW TO INSTALL
1. Factory Data reset
2. Wipe System/Data/Dalvik/Cache
3. Install ROM zip from Sdcard
4. Install GAPPS zip from Sdcard
5. Install SuperSU from Sdcard
6. Reboot to home screen to confirm good flash
7. (Optional) Reboot to recovery and flash kernel

I like Omni too :D. I ran for a few days, 0 complaints. Actually, 1 complaint. You can't see if the data in enabled in the notification area. You know, the 'x' you see on LS isn't on Omni so there isn't really a way to tell, easily, if its on or off. Other than that it ran fine.

LTE for me connected perfectly as does LS so, I can't really say too much in there difference. But, that may be a good thing seeing how this Omni is as good as LS in connection, for me at least.

Didn't make a backup unfortunately, we'll see if he can put that 'x' there, than I'd be happy, hahaha. :P

There's a way. I found it last night. Don't have it on my phone now so couldn't tell you where. By default it's missing the x and the data transfer arrows. It's an option you can enable.

Hmm, I'll have to look into that tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up! :)

I haven't tried any of the custom TW roms yet. Thinking I might flash one tonight. I'm seeing wicked and moar being the two biggest here. Is there one you would recommend between the two for options/stability and a specific build? I see people saying this build or that build have issues. TIA. :)

Are there any other ROMs we can use or is it just TW or aosp based ROMs?? I would love having a ROM that worked out of the box like TW does but without the large footprint that TW based ROMs have on ram. I love CM based ROMs but it's impossible to have lte and MMS working no matter what.
