Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

everything worked like a charm. i flashed wicked sensation and it restored my data. then i flashed liquid smooth. i'm trying it out now. and...

same problem as cyanogenmod. no 3g or 4g. no internet connection without wifi. maybe it's the 4.4.2? i used to run cyanogenmod 10.2 awhile back and had a 3 and 4g connection. i guess i could just stick to wicked sensation. i'm exhausted! thanks so much for all of your help. liquid smooth looks like it would have been nice.

Have you tried using the 4G fix while running Liquidsmooth?

One good thing has come of this............ you're now running Wicked Sensations and that's a very nice ROM. I ran it for months and it is definitely one of my favorites. :)

i didn't try the 4g fix but i don't get 4g where i am on the sprint network. only 3g. do you think that may be the problem?

Oh. You said you weren't getting 3 or 4G which led me to believe you were able to get both where you live.

One thing's for sure, trying the 4G fix sure won't hurt anything. Another thing you need to try is a battery pull. Remove the battery for a minute or so, then put it back in and boot the phone up. You'd be surprised at what simple battery pull can fix. LOL.

If that won't work I'm at a loss. From what you've already done, you should be getting data.

Edit.

I've asked a buddy to look over what we've tried and see if I may have missed anything. Hopefully he'll be able to find a fix.

OK, so here's what I'm seeing, and thinking:

Data is an issue on anything that builds off of CM in the last couple of days. If trying to flash a nightly from 3/8 onward, this could be the issue. For CM, regardless, I would recommend the M3 Snapshot. Probably the best build of CM11 to date. LTE hasn't been an issue on these builds the last couple of days, but 3G has, so if LTE isn't available, then it will look like no data connection is available. Download the app Signal Check Lite from the Play Store, it will show you if the data connection is available; if it shows something, but you can't connect, that would indicate an issue with the ROM itself or not having the proper APN's (see next point).

An APN fix is usually needed regardless of which type of data connection you have available (3G or LTE), use what Biker has posted in the OP of this thread, or the method available from AlpineMan on XDA.

Modem may be an issue as well. Flashing the MK5 (or Sprint's MK3 for that matter) can't hurt, as it is the most recent radio available. Some users have only had success using the latest radio, from what I have read on XDA, for various ROM's, especially very recent ones.

Thank you for your help my friend. :)

thanks, guys! i just got wicked sensations all set up on my phone and spent a few hours customizing and downloading everything and then realized that i can't make a call on it! i'm going to try to try to do what you said and get back to cyanogenmod and see if i can work out the data issue. seems like i just can't win with this! now i have my data connection back but can't make calls. i probably had it coming being so new to all of this. it's really fascinating, though. i've been learning so much for the past week and i still have no idea what i'm doing! i didn't even know what rooting a phone was when i started.

Did you flash the modem that is needed? I used MK3. Also, did you do a profile update after flashing the ROM and modem? You need to make sure you've got the correct modem and then do a profile update. Buddy, I can guarantee it'll work. As a matter of fact, I can guarantee YOU can get it working. Just take your time and follow the directions. We have to do a profile update because it has to register to the Boost network. If not, as far as the phone is concerned, it's a Sprint phone. ;)

Just keep at it bro. Also, welcome to Android Forums. :)

EDIT: You do not have to set anything back up for Wicked Sensations. Just try flashing the MK3 modem while you are still running the ROM and then do the profile update. That should fix you right up. :)

it's very interesting. i flashed back to an older cyanogenmod 11 nightly from 03-06. same problems. there was no snapshot for that. there was one for the sprint one that i would have thought would work but it wouldn't flash. i then restored the wicked sensation rom. now here's where it gets interesting. this time i flashed the mk3 modem and updated everything. now my phone works and my sms works and i was getting really excited that i finally got everything working at the same time! then i realized that the 3g is not working now either. it's now the same as the other roms. however, before, when i couldn't dial or use the sms, i had the data connection without wifi. so i'm right back where i started but there's gotta be some good clues in there somewhere. again, i REALLY appreciate all of the help i'm getting here. honestly, it's really great.

and it turned out the mobile data just wasn't turned on!!
everything works again after about 4 days of nonstop trial and error and almost no sleep!
now, i'm going to do something really stupid... i'm going to flash cyanogenmod again with that moden and see if it solves the problem. unless you think that's a bad idea?

Just FYI, the M3 Snapshot was from before the unified builds came out, so you have to choose the d2spr version (which you did) and then delete or modify the asserts (which I would bet you didn't). Unified builds started on 2/17, so anything from any ROM before that date requires the old method of modifying and flashing Sprint ROMs.

Hahaha! Yep, it definitely helps to turn your data on before trying to use it. Don't feel bad because I've made the same mistake in the past.

As for CyanogenMod, keep in mind what Struckn mentioned. M3 was not a unified build and the asserts need to be removed. CM11, Carbon, and Liquidsmooth haven't been on the unified builds very long.

I think you'll be fine if you go ahead and flash CM11. Just ALWAYS remember to do a factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe Dalvik cache before flashing ANY new ROM. Forgetting to do any of these steps can result in force closings or even bootlooping.

Let us know how it's going.

im running the new moar its pretty much the same as moar v8.0 without the bugs. i feel like moar is missing things like small things like the water effect when u unlock was so much better before 8.0.

i was running liquid which is an amazing rom. i just love my tw experience tho idk i just like the stupid features samsung has like im so used to the swipe for screenshot and flip or cover screen to mute.

I was in love with the TW Roms when that was all we had, but for me the experience of a rom like LS or Carbon is a better fit. Maybe CM will catch up soon.

I always keep a backup of MOAR and Wicked Sensations though.

I do too, Wy. I've got a good backup of LiquidSmooth, BeanStalk, Carbon, Cm11 Snapshot, and Wicked Sensations on my sd card. I sure am glad I went ahead and bought that 32GB card. LMAO!!! :p:D

Update

Unfortunately i've got some bad news to share with everyone. For those who don't already know, Wicked Sensations is on its final build. Dazed has had some changes at his workplace and feels he is no longer gonna have the time to maintain the Wicked Sensations ROM.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but i thought this needed to be shared with everyone because Wicked Sensations is definitely one of the best Touchwiz ROMs available for our phones.

Anybody going to try the new MOAR 9.0? I have to wait until I am near some fast Wifi. Lol. Maybe Friday.

Been running 9.0 since it was released, I dirty flashed, no problems to report for me.

I agree v7 was real nice, android 4.3 changed a lot of the code and directories and that's why v8 lost a lot of the goodies but v9 added a lot back, but still needs moar

... but the water ripple / ink effect does work on both v8 and v9. I've been using it for long time now. Go into mod control - lock screen - uncheck aosp - check ink effect select color --- goto full lockscreen settings - unlock effect - ripple effect.

I loved the ripple effect when I was running both MOAR & Wicked Sensations. It would be nice to see it on Liquidsmooth. Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing it on any of the AOSP ROMs. :/

Like virtually anything else TW, it's probably not possible to convert or port, or it's insanely hard. Remember, TW and AOSP isn't even comparing apples and oranges, it's maybe more like watermelons versus potatoes (I don't know, just two random produce items that are nothing alike). Although ironically Liquid is the ROM it would most logically belong on, for sure.

LOL! Yep. If it belonged on any AOSP ROM, Liquidsmooth would be the one for sure. Ya know Struckn, you would think that these AOSP ROMs would maybe offer a few choices as far as lockscreens go but I haven't seen any that do. I do have Widget Locker but it doesn't have anything that even comes close to the ripple effect. :-\

yes it works but not as ripply i guess the word is or as nice idk maybe i just got used to it and now my eyes need moar lol:D

I decided to give the newest MOAR build a try. So far so good. I love Liquidsmooth, Carbon, and the other AOSP ROMs but it's nice to change up every now and then. I will say this too......... the amount of customization that MOAR has is mind boggling. It's nice to be running it again and see that Rompnit is still working his magic.

HAH! I've got my ripple effect back too! LOL!!!

Edit:

I decided to go with Ktoonsez kernel this time. I just set the i/o to row and the gov to lagfree. No overclocking either. Man oh man did it make a difference. This baby is running like a champ! ;)
