Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

Hello, I am on a boost s3, rooted and custom rom. Does anyone know if and when we will be getting a official google update to 4.2 or 4.3? THanks

This is the wrong thread to be asking about Boost updates. Plus, since your running a custom ROM, there's a good chance you won't even be notified when and if an update is released.

We can already run some of the 4.3 custom ROMs. The newest update I posted (Vanir) is a ROM based on 4.3.

The Collective is also based off 4.3. :D

No need to wait on Boost to update. If you look, we already have access to them.:D:D

i havent had any GPS so far...

I dont think the built in wifi tethering works, i could get a connection to my computer but it displayed no internet access. i have yet to try usb tethering yet.

the built it performance settings should be fine because they unlock when using this kernel.

finnaly got a full charge of battery, ill report back on how it goes.

EDIT: battery life is friggen awesome

I can confirm both GPS & wifi hotspot are working on stock Vanir ROM. I'm using the hotspot via my tablet to make this post. :D

Edit: only bad thing I've noticed is random reboots. I got a reboot last night and chalked it up as just maybe a one time thing. NOT. Just happened again while I was making mods to the status bar icons.

Nice ROM but I'm flashing back to my hooked up version of Wicked Sensations. :thumbup:

Well you get the choice, WiFi hotspot and gps with reboots or no reboot... Lol cool..

Sounds like they should be able to iron things out

really? haven't experienced one reboot yet.

interesting

The main thing I wanted to do was test it and make sure it was fully functional, which it is.

It locked up on me and rebooted twice. May have been some of the apps I added or something. It did fine until I installed all of my apps and started messing with the Vanir mods in the phone settings. Oh, it FCed on me when I used Google Maps too. A number of things could be causing those issues.

Wy said he's going to give it a try. We'll see what he and others who flash the ROM say. Hopefully it was just my phone. We won't know until a few other Boost users flash it and report back.

I know me and I know I'll end up trying it again. Lol. I needed my phone right now so I went ahead and flashed back to one of my favorite stable backups. I'll give it another try this weekend. I will also be testing a few more. :D:thumbup:

Hopefully by the end of the weekend we'll have a few more ROMs added to this thread. ;)

I have GPS working and WiFi tethering using a separate app.

Thanks. That's good to know. Even though the ROM booted and ran, it may very well be the stock kernel that comes with it that's causing the trouble. We'll know once a few others test it.

The kernel option you offered may be the solution. If you would, please let us know how you obtained working GPS and WiFi hotspot when running the OC kernel.

That way we will try and have all the bases covered.

Thanks again for your help over here. I'll be sure to add your name to the credits list in the OP.

LOL. I just saw this post. It'll be nice if we can get things figured out because the ROM really is nice. Besides being very snappy, it's app content is minimal. The ROM looks to have been fully debloated which is something I really like.

That's the reason I loved running CTMOD on the Prevail and Marquee. You start with the basics and add what you want. One of the things I absolutely loath is going through a ROM and removing unneeded apps. Especially when there are a ton of them that will never even be used by most people.

I really appreciate you suggesting to add the list of safe to remove apps to this thread :thumbup:. That was a very good call bro because a lot of people have no idea what some of those apps are or what they even do. Heck, the majority of the ones listed don't even show up in the app drawer. WTH? :banghead: LMAO!!! :D

Gonna get off here in a few and chill with the wife. HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE! :p

I'm in the mood to do some ROM testing tonight. You guys may find a few new ones listed later tonight or tomorrow. :D

Peace

GPS worked immediatly for me.

wifi hotspot is acting wierd and is a known issue on 4.3 ROMS( done some research )

many people are having problems trying to share their connection using 4.3

have you tried the kernel that i linked? maybe the stock kernel has some problems.
if you install Vanir using the modified link, Moped replaced the stock kernel with a kernel from CM.

i replaced it again with the one i linked. try installing the modified version?

Nope. I flashed the ROM in the Vanir thread along with the GAPPS. I had no problem with GPS or the hotspot. I turned on GPS and it had a problem with accuracy so I rebooted with it still on. After booting up, it locked right in on my exact position. Before it was only 20 or 30 ft off though which wasn't bad. As for the hotspot. i turned it on, changed the password and my tablet connected immediately.

There are a number of things that could be causing the random reboots and the screen freeze up.

I also want to hear from others who flash the non-modified ROM and see if they experience any of the issues I did. ;)

I definitely plan on trying it again several more times. Trying a ROM 1 time isn't what I consider testing. lol If I have issues with a ROM, I'll usually try it 3 times.

I'll try the modified version you mentioned too. :)

Hopefully I'll find one that runs properly because as I mentioned earlier, I really do like the ROM and the fact that just about all of the crap has been removed. :D

interesting.

when I use the hotspot, I can connect to my tablet/computer but the internet is unusable.

so far, havent experienced any problems.

the worst was like 2-3 of my apps crashing and it was not often

Yup.

Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st....You'll need to install Notepad++ to edit the script. There are others out there but this is the one I prefer.

You can download it free from the internet. You'll see the FREE version out to the right of the screen once you click the link.
Notepad++ v6.5 - Current Version Select the FREE version. ;)

Open the ROM zip and navigate to META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script. Open the file with Notpad++.

In most of the AOSP based ROMs you'll see a list of compatible modems.

The 1st one I edited for The Collective, I removed them all. After a bit of thinking, I'm now choosing to leave the other modems and add the modem I needed. Kind of a safety thing in case someone gets hold of one with a different device and has no idea what they are doing. No safety measures = BRICK!

This is the one I modified from Vanir. You'll see the stock Boost modem I added.

EXAMPLE:

assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "d2spr" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "d2spr" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "d2spi" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "d2spi");
assert(getprop("ro.bootloader") == "L710VPAMG2" ||
getprop("ro.bootloader") == "L710VPBMA6" ||
getprop("ro.bootloader") == "L710VPBMB1" ||
getprop("ro.bootloader") == "L710VPBMD4" ||
getprop("ro.bootloader") == "L710VPAMD7");

Pay close attention to what you're doing The easiest way is just remove one and add your own. Make sure you add the baseband exactly as it's found on your device under BASEBAND VERSION in your phone's settings. Once you've removed one and added yours, close out and choose to save it. You will be asked if you want to save the changes with the script and then you be asked if you want to save the changes to the archive. Select YES to both. If you've done it properly, you'll be able to open it back up and it should reflect the changes you have made like in my example above.

These are put in the ROM to save people from flashing ROMs on incompatible devices and bricking. I advise you to use this form of editing with extreme caution. I'm sure you will, just be careful. :D

Hope this helps you. :D If you have any questions shoot me a PM.

Ahhhh, I gotcha now. That's for a kernel the overclocks. Even though I run the KToonsez kernel, I vary rarely OC it.

From the looks of Vanir, no OC is gonna be needed. This sucker is fast!

You don't need to use a PC, I've been doing this on my phone with Fx extractor from the Playstore. You can unzip the zip file within the app, edit the update script and rezip it.

Cool and thanks for your suggestion.

I never said a PC was the only way to do it. He asked how I did it and I told him. I also stated in the 2nd or 3rd sentence in my post that I used Notepad++ and that there are others out there but this is the one I prefer.

Anytime I mess with altering scripts or testing a Sprint ROM not made for or tested on my Boost S3, I do it on or near my computer where I have immediate access to Odin, adb, or Linux if need be for Shabby's fix.

It also helps me when I upload the modified scripts for the tutorials. I pull a copy of the original, change what needs to be changed, zip it up and upload it to MediaFire.

It's all just much easier for me to do while I'm sitting at my desktop. :D

No worries man, was suggesting it for anyone who wanted to know.

thanks mike biker is always open to new ideas. he will test it first before he prints it. his undertaking is a massive one at this juncture. we all love the knowledge. thanks again

Hello! I would like to try the vanir 4.3 rom. I went on the vanir xda thread but could not find where to download this rom, I did download the 4.3 gapps from there though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded it Friday and the link for the ROM was right next to the GAPPs .

I did not see it next to the gaps, I just checked it again a minute ago. Any suggestions?

I just looked. It's at the very bottom of the 1st post in the Vanir thread. . The links say,

DOWNLOAD v.001

Core 4.3 Gapps

The 1st is the ROM and the second are the GAPPS.

Thanks for letting me know. For some reason I thought that was all 1 link for the gapps. Silly me lol

No problem. That what this thread is here for. Just to remind you. Flashing the AOSP based ROMs will create duplicate files on the internal and external SD card. If you flash the ROM, don't be surprised when you find them.

I would recommend making a backup of your Internal and external SD card and placing it on a computer if you can. You can either wipe the extra files individually or wipe both internal and SD card via your recovery, then replace with the backups you made and placed on the computer. Your choice. :D

Just flashed the vanir rom and I'm getting that android.process has stopped. Anyone have any ideas??

Did you do a factory wipe, cache, and dalvik
Wipe? Make sure you read everything in that section including setting to CDMA.

Each of those ROMs will work on our phone. I've tested them myself. If you get problems at 1st, wipe it and start from the beginning.

Try it a few times following the instructions to a T.

If you still cannot get it to flash, keep trying and let me know what's happening. We'll get it figured out. :)

Also, you may want to read this post. A member has found another version/kernel that may work better. I haven't tried it. I flashed the one from the original thread. Still, that option is available to you.

Here the post with the Info - http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=6206534

Ok, in twrp, I have done this 4 different times, advanced wipe, wiped data, system, davilik, and caches, then installed vanir rom, then installed gapps, then rebooted and I am still getting unfortunatly, the process com.android has stopped. I managed to get back into recovery, flashed piggyback, the selected fix permissions under advanced and rebooted, still getting this process com.android error, please help?? I have followed everything to a t.

I noticed in the wipe menu under advanced, it says internal storage. I don't wipe that too, do i?? Because I never did that?
