BOOST SGS2 FH29 Root Achieved!

Ok pretty much answerrd my own questions. I guess now all i need to know is how do u get ur nandroid onto ur pc for back up? Is it self ex,planitory once i get to it?

I'm not sure what you mean by "Modem". Thanks for the help

Edit: Is this it?

Yup. Those are them. Flash the zips in cwm. I'd check the thread at xda since they have newer modems there.

Im wanting to root my phone today. So i download the agat 0.5.4 , flash through odin. Then this guide says to download SU zip. Do u download that directly from ur phone and not ur computer? Or do u download it to ur computer first? Not underdtanding this part. After i figure this out, im rootin.

Either way, so long as it ends up in your sd card.

Sa weeeeet. Rooted.. :D ok... Sooo....i made a backup nandroid just before i flashed superuser.zip. It did its thing, took forever. Lol after that i immediately flashed SU. Rebooted, all is well with SU in apps.

I went to go look on my sd card to find my backup. The only thing i saw was a file on the root of the sd card that said "clockworkmod". Click on that and the only subfolder is "backup". If i click on that it shows 3 or 4 files that dont have any file name endings that look like its a backup. Where is my nandroid specifically? Is it one of those files? Or the whole subfolder called "backup" ? I didnt copy. anything to my computer cause i didnt know what to do. So here i am :D any advice?

The nandroid will Typically look like a date and time for a file name. It will be under clockworkmod/backups........ If you cant see inside it with your file browser then you probably need to set the browser to show hidden files, and why you're at it probably make it a root browser. I like es file browser in the market. It's free.. But yes you were looking in the right place

Edit, this is what the folder will look like

And this will be the things in it

Ok. I see it now. thx for the screenshots and the effort it took to further educate a noob like myself. :D So to flash back to that restore point i use nandroid.md5 in odin?

Just copy the entire clockwordmod folder onto your computer. don't rename or delete anything. Just copy it to your computer. Then if you want to restore, just copy it back onto the root of the sd card and choose backup and restore from the recovery menu, then restore, then select the backup -- you can do it all on the phone. No computer or odin needed.

Oh ok. As u can tell im still learning. Thx for the info. Ill move that whole folder to my computer tonight. Btw thx for ur root guide. Im rooted as of today.

Leave it on your sd card bro... It doesn't need to be moved to the computer... All you have to do is hit restore in recovery, then select the file you want to restore... And wait until its done then reboot... Dont worry it can take up to five minutes for it to back up or restore. But you'll see it working. There is an app that can reboot you in to recovery... Its free and its easier than holding the volume button and power...I'll post a link

You should always have your backup on the phone because if something goes wrong and your phone won't boot but it will boot into recovery then you won't be able to transfer it back to the sd to restore.. But you can copy it to the computer...copy not move!!:p

I always keep a copy on my computer. That way if something happens to the phone and I file insurance on it I won't lose anything.

Umj i have a problem i flashed the kernel now when you boot up my phone it goes to the GS2 screen then shuts off... any help?

Make sure the the phone is completely off.... Hold the volume up button, then hold the power button hold them both until in until a few seconds after it starts to boot... Now do a data wipe.. Then clear cache...then go to advanced and clear dalvik cache... Now hit reboot system.. That should fix it.

If it doesn't come back here and report i will assist in some advanced recovery technics

Ive followed this guide for getting cm10, and i cant get it to work.

Im stock rooted with agat 054. I downloaded.the cwm kernal linked in this guide, then downloaded the cm10 zip linked in this guide. Downloaded G apps too. I flashed from agat to cwm then rebooted to recovery, which brings me to cwm recovery. Wiped data, cache, dalvik. Went to install cm10 and it says installation failed one second into it.

I did wipe all data, cache, and dalvik before i flashed cwm from agat. Thats not my problem, is it? Am i supposed to not perform a wipe here?

I opened a new thread in the boost all things root section to address this problem but havent received the help i need.

Anyone know whats wrong with my process?

The system update FI22 is out... (Boost Mobile GS2)

Problems if you have FH29 rooted and want to update to FI22:

I'm running now the FH29 and tried to update it to the newest version (FI22) but that gave me an error that didn't surprise me because I'm rooted.
I did a Nandroid backup before anything....
I went back to stock and did both updates FH29 and FI22, then I rooted the phone (flashed Agat and then Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip), everything seemed ok until I realized the 3G wasn't working no matter what I tried. I flashed my Nandroid backup on top of this without results. Finally, I went back to stock again, updated to FH29, and flashed my Nandroid backup and everything is working now... (without FI22)

If anyone has a solution for this let me know, it looks like this rooting metod doesn't work for FI22, for some reason blocks the 3G and I don't know what else....

Thanks

Kev that was WRONG,

when you downloaded the file you extract it, that gives you the tar.md5 file
once you have that YOU MUST SELECT PDA in odin and it flashes successfully

So im very new at rooting, and I tried rooting my Boost SGS2 Epic Touch 4G with this method: http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...oot-guide-boost-mobile-samsung-galaxy-s2.html
I was able to go from boost intro to sprint intro basically going to the FG13 and under my app list was listed superuser, but when i did a rootcheck it said no root found. When I tried using superuser it also didnt work. So now im just trying to go back to FH29 (stock ROM) that i found on this forum flashing it with Odin3 v1.85. When i put the D710BST_CODE_SPH-D710BST.FG31_CL981989_REV02_user_low_ship.tar in the PDA.
and the PIT: C:\Odin2\Odin3-v1-1.85\u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit with only auto reboot and f.reset time checked i hit start and this is the message i get
"Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> D710BST_CODE_SPH-D710BST.FG31_CL981989_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)"
What did i do wrong? Please help!

I'm using FI27 and my gps is working, though honestly gps has always been an issue for samsung. I had an old galaxy s that had gps lock issues, and I wouldn't be surprised if the S3 had them as well
It's odd cause GPS is working on other roms. It was working on the Agat kernel, Universe ROM, and now on Calkulins E4GT. The problem roms are cm9, cm10, AOKP, and I think Codename too.

I just picked up BOOST Galaxy S2, started it up and was prompted to do the FI22 update and I did.

I want to root this phone, I was going to go ahead and try the method sticked in the "all things root guide" but read that somebodies 3G stopped working after using that method post FI22 update.

Does anybody know for sure how to go about rooting with no issues, I just got this bad boy and would hate for it to brick.

Thanks in advance
