Help Boot loop (installing JB)

Jiioman

Newbie
Hi!

I have a huge problem! I downloaded the JB-update OTA. My phone started the update, but in about .5 sec the screen (droid with a cube in it, rolling and the status bar) froze. Then all went black and the install started again. I let the phone work it out for 4 hours, and there is no change.

My phone wont restart to recovery, but the download-mode works. I have rooted the device, I had cyanogen 9 on it, but i went back to the stock ROM. My PC doesnt recognize the phone (KIES installed)

I have an old back up and some additional info on the phone if needed.

Thanks a lot for help!

Assuming you have the S2 international (can you confirm)

Follow this guide

Download the stock ROM (LSD), install it via ODIN, root using PhilZ via ODIN

Download you custom ROM, place on internal SD , install using CWM

I have the international version of S2, NEE. I'll post the specific info as soon as I find it.

So, if have the download mode working there is still a chance that my phone is not bricked?

So heres my info before the first root:
Kernel version
3.0.15-1114882
dpi @DELL163 #3

Build number
IMM76D.XWLPY

PDA: I9100XWLPY
PHONE: I9100XXLQ6
CSC: I9100NEELP6
Build info: WED SEP 18:11:36 KST 2012

And here is all I put in and my backups:

I also have the efs folder. I used the recovery mode to return to stock rom.

There should be a *.TAR archive inside the I9100XWLSD_I9100OXXLS6_NEE.zip file; extract that and install via Odin as PDA. The PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSD-OXX-4.31.tar.md5 file should be installed as phone.

I tried this but flashing failed. How should I continue?

Can i try again or what? It still says downloading on the phone...

EDIT:
I had to take it off so i tapped exit in odin and hit the power for 5 sec. Now there is a text on the phone saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"

What what

yes you can try again , just disconnect your phone and reconnect to USB in download mode, try using ODIN 1.85 or it could just be a bad download

The error messages you are getting shouldnt be an issue as you are flashing a full stock ROM

Just noticed you are trying to flash both at once, flash the ROM first let it reboot, let your phone start and it will install the rom and once its settled repeat the process and flash the kernel, thats your issue

You should have a play around with JB for a while before you flash the kernel, make sure its stable

The kernel will give you root access, install SU and CWM and allow you to install custom roms from your SD card , add mods , make backups etc etc

Hello again!

I flashed the kernel linked here via odin. (As pda, first i tried phone, then checked the instructions on xda..) The superuser and clockwork rom wont start. I had them already in the phone from earlier. Should i remove them and try to flash the kernel again?

Hello

Which kernel did you flash ? If it was PhilZ then try this Siyah kernel

http://d-h.st/bjh

You are not the first person to mention PhilZ did not install SU or CWM

You can uninstall SU and CWM anyway before you reflash, download root checker from the play store as well to check if you are actually rooted before and after you flash

Yes, it was the PhilZ. I understood that it is more "you wont brick your phone- safe" or something? But Siyah is also very popular isnt it?

I'll now try to remove the SU and CWM, then try to flash PhilZ, then Siyah.

EDIT:
Root successful, no CWM or SU. Siyah is going in.

PhilZ is really the pure stock kernel with addons and ideal for somebody like me who's not concerned with tweaks etc, siyah is for the hardcore gang :)
