Root Boot Loop

of i have read a lot of the same posts as mine, but i want to provided my information on my phone to get help.

HTC Thunderbolt
MECHA XD ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-1.04.2000(PG0510000)
MICROP-/
RADIO-1.16.00.0223r

I am unable to restore a backup using recovery or do anything in recovery because the phone automatically restarts itself before I can perform any action. I downloaded the Firmware that shipped with the phone as suggested in other posts renamed is PG05IMG allowing windows to automattically put the .zip on it so there is absolutely no way it has the .zip.zip i know for a fact it is PG05IMG.zip but my bootloader can not find it no matter what I do and i have tried different firmwares. the SDCARD is definitely FAT32 and i know that i am putting it on the root of my SDCARD.

What i was doing I had Cubed 1.2.3 on there working fine since May. But last night i decided I wanted to go to a GB rom so i downloaded synergy-thunderbolt-unofficial-268 and flashed that this morning well it flashed fine and i was able to boot into it and play around, following their steps I then went to flash the new LTE radio to work with the new ROM cause it requires MR2 or above, but i download the latest version available. I went to flash that using the bootloader like their instructions tell me to do. but it could not find the PG05IMG no update failed or anything like that just couldnt find it well i rebooted and now i cant get past the white HTC boot screen, i can get into bootloader, but if i try to go into recovery it reboots before i can do anything at all.

I hope this is enough information for you guys.

rebooting in recovery is not a good sign.

you may try adding the .zip to your PG05IMG name, just in case windows is not adding the ext for you in this case. its quite possible its not finding it because its only named "PG05IMG" and not "PG05IMG.zip"

give us a link that you downloaded your firmware from.

similar situations seem to have been resolved by running .exe files rather than a PG05IMG,so you might want to just do that in the first place. id prolly suggest starting with a lower firmware than GB,so youve got a couple of shots if it fails ;)

BTW welcome to AF :D

I agree with scotty that if you are getting reboots in recovery it sounds like you will need to use the exe to flash back to a working version of the OS. Once you do that my suggestion would be try to get a warranty replacement.

so even if i get it working there is chances its not gonna be as good anymore, so is it even worth it trying to fix it or just say i lost it and let my insurance replace it ?

and can you give me a link to the .EXE fix? but how would i run the EXE if the phone doesnt stay on long enough to have windows find it?

i followed this one http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/444686-thunderbolt-stuck-bootloader.html

to give you a lil history: not long after the TB got its first gingerbread leaks, there were several phones that became unfixable bricks. fingers were pointed at things ranging from emmc failure due to inferior chips to the GB leaks to the radios that GB required you to use.

symptoms were the same:bootloops trying to boot to the OS,and in reovery, with not enuff time to hardly do anyting in recovery before it looped again. these early bricks were not fixable with the available RUUs at the time.

when folks that have been around for that see a bootloop now, they assume the device to be bricked, and call vzw for replacement. 3 or 4 people now have revived phones back to perfectly working order that had these same symptoms as the original bricks. most have sent these working phones back when the replacements arrive, under the assumption that "it happened once it will happen again".

i personally would not send it back,id keep using it. we do not know for certain that these recent bootloops in recovery are the same issue as the original bricks, and we certainly do not kow for sure that the devices are ticking time bombs about to self destruct  it may be fine forever, and it may be a better devices than the crappy refurb youll get from vzw. you may have to send your refurb back a couple times to get one that works correctly. moreso, you may get back an older phone that does have the suspected inferior mmc chips,so if it happens again, the ruu may not fix it.

IMO you have nothing to lose, especially if you have no factory warranty, only the other. if i had to pay the deductable to get it replaced, id keep rollin with it... if it happens again, run the ruu again. wait until its dead before shelling out your hard earned $$

the third post of http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/310708-thunderbolt-rom-list-updated-11-9-a.html has listings for PG05IMG files(rename and flash in hboot) and .exe files(download and run on your pc) the mr2 ruu has seeming fixed other "bricked" phones,so id prolly try it: [ROM]RUU_Mecha_S_VERIZON_WWE_1.70.605.0_Radio_0.01.69.0 625r_NV_8K_1.41_9K_1.64 - xda-developers

-download the file(ends in .exe)
-boot into hboot
-push power to select fastboot
-right click on the .exe file and run as administrator if you have that option. otherwise, just click on it and run it.
-follow the onscreen directions to hook up your phone and keep your fingers crossed :)

alright i am going to give this a try and see how it goes I will report back and see if this can fix my phone. I have my fingers crossed and saying my prayers lol (lets hope the phone doesn't turn out to be like the boy from the "Pet Cemetery" lol :D)

ok so i tried doing it and it still randomly reboots, i am trying to do it one more time to see if this helps any.

But i did notice that my phone now sees PG05IMG.zip's on my SD card cause when i tried going back into the bootloader to look at the information it automatically tried doing updating with the PG05IMG i had on my SD card, it is the one too unroot the phone anyways so i let it run through it never cave me an option to select yes to update or i didnt hit it in time, the blue bar loaded all the way then it went to the yellowish bar saying checking PG05IMG and i had to do something real quick on a website (at work) and it was back at the main bootloader screen so i don't know if i missed something or not but that is why i am trying the .EXE one more time to see what it does.

if it does not work is there one last ditch effort I can try since my phone now can find the PG05IMG's?

------EDITED/ADDED after second try----------

so after trying it the second time it is still boot looping, and if i try to go into recovery from the bootloader its a picture of a phone, has a loading bar underneath and some green arrows....

Any update on your phone Nicholas? The exe you are running should revert you back to stock unrooted with the stock hboot and stock recovery.

If it still wont boot does the recovery still say s-off or is it now s-on?

recovery screen shows a picture of a phone with a Red exclamation mark in a red triangle (which i have heard is the stock recovery)

tried Flashing original Shipping firmware and the MR1 OTA Signed one but everytime is is saying

Main Version is Older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.

going to try the leaked version of GB that is signed.

Great! Glad it works now. I had suggested trying to get a warranty replacement earlier because I would be hesitant to root/rom a phone that caused me issues like that. Feel free to do what you think is best in the situation, this could be a 1 time fluke and going with a replacement could cause you to enter the dreaded refirb hell.

Still I am glad you have a working phone now :D
