Boot Loop

kelis32

Android Enthusiast
Hello

I am now stuck in aboot loop at the samsung logo and have literally tried everything to try and get out of this with no joy. I ended up flashing a stock rom but still the same issue however when i booted into recovery i had an error

E: failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)
E: failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)

Ive put it twice as it was there twice, i flashed a rom to give me root and attempted to restore my EFS from EFS pro, this showed as a success but i also received an error message from windows. I also wiped data and cache, dalvik cache and finally tried a reset, these showed as successful yet when in cwm i can still see all the files on my internal SD ??

I then tried EFS pro 2 and that errored at ADB initialisation so i could not even use that, anyone any ideas where to go to next ?

Thanks

Have you got a nandroid backup you can flash kelis32?

I have to admit that your problem is out of my bailiwick and someone like Hawker or Slug may be able to give you more guidance on this and IMHO it is worth waiting for that rather than risking any further complications.

This is way out of my league too. I'm guessing though recovery is not working due to the errors ? Therefore restoring a Nandroid is not an option ?

I know using certain kernels (Siyah for instance) backs up your efs folder as a .tar.md5 file. I have no idea how you restore it though.

As Ironass has said wait for Hawker or Slug to answer, and I'd do nothing at all until I had heard from either of them.

So are you able to get to CWM? If so I would be tempted to power down the phone, remove the SD card and to put Neatrom onto this. Then I would put the card into the phone, boot to recovery and try to wipe and flash from there.

You also say
iflashed a rom to give me root

Are you sure you have root access. You usually need to root first in order to flash a rom.

As others have said though, you may want to wait until some of the experts here log in.

hello

Misinformation in flashing a ROM to give root, i actually flashed a kernel, from looking around and from what i am and am not able to do i think the issue is that my EFS is not mounting, although EFS pro reports the back up restore was succesful. I can access my internal SD card from CWM and even tho i have done a factory reset all files are still present so i was able to flash Neat from there, it went through the process but again stuck at the sammy logo

I tried to mount my EFS in CWM but it failed so i am looking for a way to manually mount the EFS to allow me to place my backup there and hope it holds when booting.

I have not checked but should have EFS backups on my external SD unless these have been overwritten by a corrupt one when attempting to flash another ROM

Of course this is only my best guess so any and all advice is welcome

Cheers

Update

I flashed ICS 4.03 XWLP3 and have a "phone" that boots into ICS, couple of little probs but nothing serious aside from i have no baseband etc etc, assume this is down to the EFS missing but i am now in a position to try and restore my EFS through EFS pro.

I started it up and everything looks ok apart from obviously no baseband, i now need to root the phone so am looking for a kernel to flash that will root this firmware, ive checked on PhilZ but am unsure as to which one to choose.

Can anyone point me in right direction ?

Firmware is I9100XWLP3_I9100O2ULP4_I9100XXLPR

Thanks

Thanks, i flashed the file, phone rebooted and i started EFS pro, when i looked at the display i noticed i had baseband, IMEI etc already there so i thought all was good as i had a network signal as well

Rebooted the phone again and these were lost, started EFS again and product code , hardware version and baseband are unknown, run restore and got error "cant locate mount point"

I checked my EFS folder on the phone and its empty.

I have two backups from EFS pro that are image files at 20,480 kb and 5 backups on my SD card from Philz that are tar.gz files at 34kb

Is there a way i can get one of these into my EFS folder and which one, there is a big difference in the file sizes ?

Thanks

That's a relief, as I've just noticed that I gave you the wrong file name. That's what comes of trying to chat on the phone while doing other things... my apologies. I've corrected my error above. :o

My own tar.gz backups are around that size (33.5/34Kb), if it helps. I think yours should be okay.

You can simply extract the /EFS folder from the archive to the root directory of your device, replacing the current empty one. If you don't have an Android app that works with tar files installed then copying to PC, extracting with WinRAR and copying the /EFS folder back to the sdcard would work. Then just copy the /EFS folder to / with your usual file manager.

Hello

Thanks for the replies and help, i can now say that i have a fully functioning S2 again, once i got the backup into the EFS and it mounted i made doubly sure by then flashing my backup through EFS Pro

Thanks again for the assistance :)
