FYI
Motorola Motorola Mobility
@RobBull the XOOM will have an unlockable/relockable bootloader that will enable developers to access hardware for development

Sounds as if the Xoom really will be the Nexus One of Tablets.![]()
I'm partial sorry.
Its shaping up that way. Or maybe the Droid 1 of tablets?I'm partial sorry.

So...today has been filled with very good news.
1. Two year contract option available, along with the no contract and wifi model pricing.
2. The unboxing video!
3. Unlockable bootloader.

Where have we gotten official word on the wifi model pricing today?
Thanks
This is extremely good news.
On a side but related note - if we root the Xoom, how hard will it be later to upgrade to Ice Cream or get other OTA updates? I only recently rooted my DINC so have not yet had to go through an OTA, but I seem to recall that there may be issues getting updates once rooted.
Just curious...
once rooted you can just install a rom with the new software, usually way before OTA. (my droid1 has gingerbread)
But your at the mercy of the ROM developer to get that into the ROM your using, thus possibly waiting longer.
ExactlyIMO, ROM developers are much more reliable than the manufacturer when releasing updates. This is speaking of my experience with the Droid.
Well those people should be lashed 50 times and banished to the seventh level of hellCompletely agree. But some people want it yesterday. And want the actual OTA.

That OTA that is now pushing would be a DOWNgrade.

I myself will be waiting to unlock my bootloader. This isn't a phone and I don't want to screw it up...plus running stock for awhile is the way to go to introduce yourself to a device.
FWIW I too have been running gingerbread for weeks with Cyanogenmod on my Nexus. That OTA that is now pushing would be a DOWNgrade.

. Because there are some pretty impatient people over at the custom rom threads which to me are worse than the ones who complain about manufacturers taking forever with official updates.
The only thing I'm worried about with rooting my Xoom is the 4G "Upgrade" It's supposed to be a Software 'and' hardware upgrade for 4G support right? I'd just hate to void the ability to receive the upgrade when it comes. For that reason I may hold off on tinkering until down the road.
