Root Bought the NC. A root question.

Got a great deal on the NC on ebay and it will be here Saturday. Of course, the stock ROM just won't suit me. :D

I've read through some of the stickies and downloaded files to make a bootable CWM card and flash CM7. One thing I'm a little confused about. If I'm going to put a new ROM on do I need to be rooted or do I only need to root if I just want admin rights in the stock ROM? Can I just install CWM and the CM7 ROM without rooting and still be able to use Titanium Backup?

And hello ... :wavey:

No need to touch the stock rom if you don't want to.

I picked up one for my wife, played with it for 10 minutes, then flashed CM7 on it and gave it to her. About 5 days later, I wanted one for myself and flashed it as soon as I got home... never loaded the stock rom on it.

You don't need to root, just create the bootable sdcard, stick it in the slot and power it one and go to town.

You sure you want CM7 on it? I prefer CM9 myself.

Thanks and CM9 would be good. I thought I read somewhere there were problems running it on the NC. I was looking at CM7 and Mirage.

Mirage is a rock solid ROM for the NC. CM9 is really nice, too, but I think netflix and the camera aren't working yet but I haven't been keeping up so I'm not sure.

Got it today. Had Mirage running 30 minutes after delivery. :D

I've read how to flash back to stock, but could I flash the 1.42 update zip from B&N's site? Would that work?

Nope, the 1.42 update is a signed update. You can't flash it from CWM (and why would you want it?) :D

lol .. just for future consideration.

Although if stock was a lot better on the battery I would seriously consider it. After I flashed CM7 it was draining 44% and hour. It looks like its settled in at about 15%-17% an hour now. I guess I'm used to my original nook that would last for days and days.

Is that 15-17% an hour while using it? O/W you've got a rogue app there. Settings... battery should tell you what's using your battery. If it's screen, turn down the brightness or set it to "auto". If it's something else, consider uninstalling/reinstalling it (or do without it).

I think I had 5% per hour watching a video, if that's any help.

Yes, while using it. Its the display mostly but I keep it down to about 25% brightness. There's a new update for Mirage today. I'll do a clean install and see if that helps.

Any time you install a new rom or just clear caches, it's going to be worse for a day until things settle in.

Yeah I remember that now. As many gadgets as I've flashed it should be stuck in my brain. It seems to be staying about 3.3% now. Well until I started posting this then it jumped to 17%. There's a new kernal for Mirage that reportedly helps with power consumption too.

I get good battery life on the aurora kernel that is built in w/Mirage Kang. Also, I can overclock w/this kernel.

Is that the same kernel as in 05092012? If so that's what I've had. I've overclocked to 1100 and 1200. Doesn't seem to matter to the battery % very much whether its there or at 800. This new kernel was posted in the Mirage OP. 05112012 build of MiRaGe encore kernel. I just flashed it and letting it settle in for a while.
