It makes me a caring friend, and also someone who wouldn't want to get scammed easily. A thief that steals from a thief... It's an old saying
Hey I understand she messed up her phone, but you WOULDN'T believe how many people I know or seen get rejected of a repair even though they pay insurance as well.
In fact, it doesn't even matter if you pay insurance here, MANY people I know have gone through problems with their device through legitimate reasons here, and Metro will ALWAYS put an excuse NOT to get your warranty validated here, have seen it through friends, and myself in the past, and also a few times waiting in line. There is always an excuse, or sort of a lie so you don't get what you pay for, and most of these people are not tech literate or will take whatever excuse given, and just leave furious.
Ask a Metro representative that lurks here any of the "shortcuts" they use to keep your money through technicalities most people don't understand, or don't pay attention to the small letters, or are not told about like they should.
This lady had also bought the Esteem previous days I went to get mine, she complained that she would get no data on hers, and that she just wanted her money back (I had data problems myself, and had to go back to get it fixed), but she was within her Metro promise policy, or so she thought.
She had to keep insisting to get her money back because that clerk keep insisting not to do it, and that she may have had something to do with the phone problem. Finally when she wanted her Metro Promise, she was told it would not be possible because she went over the 1 hour limit by 10 minutes, but she had previously been told it was a 2 hour limit on another Metro place where she bought the device (I am just overhearing at this point), and that even if she could get her money back from the phone, she would still NOT get the first month she paid in advanced!! Clever how she wasn't told that when she bought it.
She decided to keep the phone which was sold with an extra extended battery and accessories that would've been a lot cheaper elsewhere, and better quality, but that wasn't the best part.
Right before leaving she just had to ask if she could buy another phone because she thought of selling hers online if it kept messing up. She was told that she could buy another but would get charged 15 $ for re-activation (which wasn't true because he forgot to mention she could do this for free by dialing *228), She decided not to do it, and left sad.
I had Metro WAY back in the day, and know of more stories. A lot of times my hispanic friends would get charged more than they thought they were (specially girls). They would be told how much a plan is, and they would accept, but then they would be told that they should get this and also that as well (metro backup, and some ringtone streaming app I think, and other crap, not sure) and come up with bills a little higher through misconception. And also the 4 or 5 dollar extra for paying the bill through the store, which are almost never told they an do for free online, but hey, that's kinda their fault as well I guess.
For that reason I had my beloved EVO 4G for a long time on Sprint on a family plan with friends (not family), only paid 58 or 62 bucks monthly on the Everything Data plan, eing able to get it repaired or refurbished as many times as I wanted, but finally decided to come to Metro because this LG Esteem is almost a CLONE of my EVO 4G, and Sprint (up to just recently) didn't have an unlimited international text to cellphones and calling service to landlines as cheap as Metro

and I call Argentina a lot.
I do not know if it's only like this in South Florida, but if you are not somewhat computer literate, or a little wise, expect to get advantage of somehow.
