Bricked phone 1 hour after getting it

Well, I read the warnings and thought whats the worst that can happen, and now my phone is totally bricked. Follwed the guide as posted on cnet.

It worked fine up until after installing the new kernal, which was a 'success', the phone didn't reboot, instead showing only the battery charging icon. Fine, it said that would happen sometimes. But I couldn't even turn the phone on. And still can't.

I can get to the warning screen but other than that the phone is totally unresponsive :(

So... how do i reverse this, fix it, whatever?

Thanks a lot for any help

You'll most likely have to flash it back to stock. I'm going to move this to the All things root section where the members more experienced with this will be able to see it.

Ok, what does that mean/how do I do it?

I'm a n00b at this stuff, hence why I probably cocked it up... although i followed the directions to the letter

Can you still get into recovery mode (volume up, menu and power button).
If you can try wiping data, cache and dalvik cache (found in advanced menu) and then reboot.

I can't get anything except the download screen, then no matter what I press (continue, cancel) it goes to the yellow triangle for about 2 seconds then becomes unresponsive

Hmm. Got it into recovery mode, selected reset, took me to s creen with 10 'no's and one 'yes', i selected yes, then did the same for wipe cache, after it had wiped both I selected 'reboot', same yellow triangle

So if you try to get into download mode (volume down, menu and power) and press volume up to continue it goes to the yellow triangle and not download mode? If this is the case remove the battery for a couple of minutes and then try download mode again.

I can get to download mode, but whatever I select after that (continue, cancel) the yllow triangle comes up

I got to recovery mode but by trying to reset everything I still havent solved anything

It looks like you need to flash some stock firmware like lunatic suggested. But that can't be done unless you can get into download mode.

You may need to get a USB jig from ebay which will boot into download mode.

I mean, I can get to the download mode screen. When I click volume up, as in the video, instead of going to the android man, it goes to the yellow triangle. What then?

I c+pd the original kernal, this is what it is in full

2.6.35.7-i9100 XKI8 - cl616395root?DELL149#2

I assumed I am looking for one called XKI8, the closest one is XWKI8. And the links are all broken

Thanks for all the help guys but damn, it really seems like I picked the wrong time to mess around with this.

The way I see it is if you want to root you might as well update your firmware as well. The one I've posted above is the most recent stable one.

Ok I just went through the process I went through originally except with the link you just gave. The phone is working now (phew!) but I don't think it is 'rooted'. After the scare I had I may just leave it at that!

Thanks chaps!
