Root Bricked Samsung admire [Please Read & Help!]

OK Guys,
I have a Samsung Admire (SCH-r720) Rooted.
Well , being stupid like i am, i was screwing around with it to see if i could get Clockwork mod installed on that as its not in the list of supported devices, Well doing that, my phone shut off and will Not Charge, Turn on or respond to ANYTHING. Totally BRICKED.
So i called samsung support, They are having me send it in,
So my question is, Can They figure out that i rooted it? As it'd suck to void the warrenty.

They could find out, if they find any applications in which are installed that could of caused the brick. Also, under situations where you remove certain files on the phone could also eliminate your warranty.

They will find out if you have any apps involving rooting your phone on the device, which ruins the warrenty.

Only one on there is ROM Manager, But like i saiid, The phone wont respond at all,, Not for HARD RESET, not for PWR up, Not for charger, not for anything. So how would they find out? :S

Manufacturers tend to have tools to turn back on a phone under certain circumstances. Did your phone have low battery before you tried the CWM? Also, would you of happened to create a backup ROM before flashing?

Thats the thing, After it successfully installed Clockwork mod, I hit "Backup Current rom" in rom manager, So it asked me to save it as a filename, i hit "ok" and then it shut off and would not boot back up, could not hard reset, Could not charge.etc. So idk what to do!

This is unfortunately what happens when people rush into modding their phone before reading ALL the necessary threads. It has been said in this forum a bunch of times to NOT USE ROM MANAGER for the Samsung Admire as it will BRICK your phone.

There is a specific thread to get CWM on your Admire SAFELY [Odin] Clockworkmod Recovery - Not compatible with Rom Manager yet

But anyway. To the OP: have you tried to see if you can get your phone into download mode? Take the battery out, put it back in. Plug your USB cable into your computer (assuming the Samsung drivers are installed on this computer). Then, while holding down the camera button on your phone, plug the other end of the USB cable into your phone. Keep the camera button pressed until a yellow triangle screen with green letters pops up. Press the Volume UP key and you will be in Download mode.

From here you can follow the directions on the ODIN thread [ACS] THE ODIN THREAD: Return to stock
Hopefully this will help you without having to send the phone to Samsung. Good luck!

Is that the orginal ROM for the Admire? Would it set back everything the way the phone came?

Havent tried that yet, And yes samsung drivers are installed on my PC, but i already boxed up my phone and its ready to be shipped, so if samsung doesnt fix it or replace it, i will refer to this thread for "odin". hopefully mods dont remove it, I must say thankyou for all your help!

Yes and no. As I understand it, the file will reset your phone to "out of the box" status, but you will have a yellow triangle screen on boot, warning you that the phone is running a custom 'something'. There is a workaround way to get rid of the yellow triangle somewhere here on the forum. The best way to do it, however, isn't available at the moment (this would be to flash a new custom kernel to override it). Hopefully this will come in the not-so-far future now that we have a working CWM for the Admire.

Oh, updating to 2.3.6 also removes the yellow triangle, but introduces a bunch of other frustrations to overcome.

Since it's under $100 for a new phone, just go get a new one. Simple.

The thing that immediately spring into my mind on reading that sentence was an image of Mitt Romney. Do you know anything about the financial situation of shawnb1003? If you don't, you're displaying either simple arrogance or simple cluelessness.

[Added in edit:] It might also occur to you that, if shawnb1003 did have an extra $79 or so to spare painlessly, he probably would have bought something better than the Admire in the first place.

In addition, it's kind of anti-environmental and thus anti-social to throw a piece of recently-produced electronic equipment in a recycling bin. I would hope that, if the phone can't be made to work, it would be salvaged for parts to potentially repair a physically damaged one.

Exactly. Thanks, And for "AppleLover" or whatever his/her name is, Im 16, I have a Part time job, i barely hit 20 hours a week, And i have to pay for car insurance (2,000$/yr), and my phone. I cant afford to blow money on a top rated phone. Thats why i bought the admire, but when i bought it it was 148$ total

REPLACED PBA - PASSED ALL FUNCTIONAL TESTING

phone works, getting it back soon :D (Being shipped on 31st)

Because, When your new to android forums, you dont read the warnings (Like i didnt) and then you download 3rd party software (Rom manager) and it bricks us out :D

Sorry to hear that, Shawn...:(.

We're try to get the word-out in all the appropriate places, but you are right, sometimes its just a matter of timing and catching one's attention.

Cheers and hope you're back up and running with some device :).

ROM manager overwrites the booting partition on our phones, because it doesn't know where to write to, all phones have different partitions for their recovery's. So choosing another phones Recovery, overwrites the system we are running, thus bricking our phones.

Yep!

That's what I heard, too :).

Apparently, ROM Manager is unable (or unwilling) to identify the proper recovery partition and mistakes the boot partition's location for the recovery partition.

Bummer.

Alright im not going to insult you like everyone else in here is doing.

Rom Manager is the most worst thing you can ever use for Samsung Admire. And i am telling you this from experiance cause this happened to me and yes i had to get a new phone. You think hey if i fix permission it will work or if i do blah blah no it will fail. To get CWM use ODIN its simple its easy and from there you can lift off.

As for them telling if you rooted your phone, in my opinion no they will not be able to tell. You see what they do in corporate it swap batteries thats about it. to see if it turns on and they try to charge it, when that happens they then go "eh its a dud" and they send you a referbished phone. So overall no they wouldnt be able to find out unless they have a super tech workers who open the phone look into the mother board and somehow recover what was there which that would be a heck no unless your a terrorist...are you o.0? anywho your in the clear, theyll be as stumped as you are and theyll just replace it. They already know their stuff thats under 200 is pretty much trash so they have no problem replacing it...in my opinion. Hope this helped :)

SO True xD went to corporate store and the lady said..... @_@ i put in battery and tried to charge it dont work...well just replace it for free since you had it for 30 days. lol non of them are going to be die hard phone specialist like ooh a phone that costs less than a pair of sneakers lets invesigate it the whole day just to see if they rooted it and see if we can get back 150 bucks

OoOOOor, when samsung gets it they'll know what you did and send you a nice bill for it. I did the same thing with my first lg optimus, and when they sent the phone in LGE's techs got ahold of it and I got a bill for well over the worth of the phone for cashing in on a warrenty that I willfully voided. Lesson? Just tell them the truth. I bricked my admire before I even came to these forums. The next day I went and bought a new one. It sux, but then again its a very affordable phone and you should have been prepared for the consequences before you decided to mess with it.

Ohhh and next time. read this:
http://androidforums.com/admire-all...ur-new-phone-rom-manager-you.html#post4389017

I'd like to re-iterate that when you make modifications to your phone such as rooting and such, you are solely and ultimately responsible for the consequences of performing those activities--the carrier and manufacturer are not.

Asking, expecting, or conning the carrier into replacing your device because of root-related actions that you knowingly undertook is not cool (from so many perspectives).

Yea if ur phones bricked you can't even load into cwm so there's really no way to tell how or if the phone was rooted... so more likely if your phone is semi bricked and you just want a replacement .........

Download ROM MANAGER and install cwm and playing around and really brick that phone :D:D:D
