Root Bricked the Phone :(:(

I was wondering if you could help me?
I had the latest OTA update. Also have 30.04 boot loader.

I used Z4 to root my phone and all went well. I used Bootstrap to do a backup and used Titanium to also do a backup.

Where i think i made a BIG mistake was to attempt to install 928 black glass with the new 340.

Now when i try to boot, all i get is this message in white...............phone will not go any further :(

Bootloader
30.04
Err:A5,70,70,00,1F

MEM_MAP Blank
Service Req'd
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable

I assume i destroyed the bootloader program somehow? I took the phone to VZW and they tried twice to flash it.............no luck :(:(

Any ideas............phone will not boot into anything, just this white text message.

Thanks for any help.

Lenny

928 is not compatible with the newer versions and the dev is said to be ill(my best wishes to him)....i feel it was such a big thing it should be made into a sticky since many folks are still going through this

Also my best wishes are for him!

Thanks for all your help. I assumed i had read everything but oh well....

I am d/loading the full 320 now........will let you all know.

Thanks :)

WOW..........you guys are awesome :)
D/loaded the FULL 320 and flashed it. Phone came back to life!!

It "seems" my local VZW store was attempting to do the earlier SBF ?????

I am now on version 2.3.320 MB810...........is this correct or should it do a OTA update?

Thanks VERY much again......................

Lenny

You need to either download another zip 2.2.34 system only file from the same site. You can flash it by putting on your SD Card and booting into recovery and installing. Once you do that you are up to date.

FYI. If you are going to flash Apex 1.3.1 you don't need to do this the rom will handle the update for you.

I'd flash the 340 sbf, then make sure root works (z4root), then make a backup from recovery.

You shouldn't have to system reset before installing Apex.

Soooo, what's the rest of the story? Did they offer to send you a new phone or what?

It's obvious the forum members know more than that VZ tech. :D

Yeah...........they gave me the phone back and i have a new refurb coming in the mail Monday.
I have done a factory reset to this phone and am reloading everything. The reason is because after i got it up and running again, it was quite buggy..........kept doing strange things.
Solid as a rock now :):)

So, a quick question.............after i do 4ZRoot i want to flash apex 1.3.1 Can you give me a short "guide" to doing this so i do not mess up again?

Thanks for all your help :):)

Apex is a good rom if you're on 340.

I did not do a factory reset when I installed it and kept my data.

There are scripts to run from terminal emulator to restore/change apps. I installed alarm, office and the blur version of messaging (for email), using scripts. I also installed the NexTheme 1.21. Works great, but I think the theme readds a second messaging app so you might get dupe text messages.

Make sure you root and backup your current setup so you have something to restore before you install the rom. You'll need that for the next OTA. :D

You can never have enough backups.

Learn about SBF before rooting your phone. This is the best advice to new people. I'm ashamed to say I didn't learn about it until I absolutely had to.

Also don't bring your phone to Verizon. Rooting your phone is like basically agreeing not to waste their time and money on fixing something that you can fix yourself. This is why carriers/manufacturers lock down phones. They should not be responsible for you if you mess up (sorry).

Wow, they sent you a refurb just like that without checking it eh? That's super cool, I figured they would have sent it in to check it out to make sure you hadn't voided the warrantee. That happened to someone else on here, Motorola found out it had been rooted and sent it back to him. Sucks to be him.

So what now, when the refurb gets there are you supposed to turn that phone in? If so is your plan to see which one works better and keep the bestest one? lol

It must be my honest face? lol I did take the time to go over the SD card and wipe all traces of any root etc. Told them it was shut off charging and when i tried to turn it back on it was toast.

I have had it with this phone..............too many bugs lately. I am going to try the refurb for awhile. Should last long enough till i get my new phone coming out soon.. :):):) LG Thunderbolt...... here i come :)

Ok bro but let me just say that while you have your refurb, if you haven't tried so already, after you root flash GummyJAR or Tranquility on that bad boy. My phone was hopelessly riddled with this bug and that bug... and while I was able to work a lot of them out over time, it's nothing like running a blurless ROM. Dude it is a complete night and day difference. I honestly can not fathom a device that could work any faster than this one does on a blurless ROM. Zero random reboots (used to get between 2 and 10 per day), glides effortlessly, knows what I'm about to do before I do.... for real, try it out.

You have nothing to lose.... right?

100% right. I like the sounds of the GummyJar rom. However, i am very gun shy right now :(

I have flashed it back to 340 with the help of you guys :) Am running stock right now. The last time i tried Apex, i added it to the root of my SD and could not find it with bootstrap..........must have done something wrong. That is when i saw 928, tried to install it, and the rest is history.

I want to do root again with 4Zroot. The last time it did not ask about temp root or permanent root? Is that correct?

Would you be willing to give me a step by step installing GummyJar? Sorry for being a mindless dub but want to do things right.

Lennydude, I bet what happen to me happen to you. When you were in bootstrap recovery and were looking for your Apex Zip you didn't scroll down far enough. For some reason the list of possible files only goes down half a page so you need to scroll down past the last visible one and more will show up. Don't be gun shy you have already unbricked the phone once so you know how to to that. Try again and I bet you find Apex.

Since you are stock you don't need to wipe cache and data. Just click install Zip from SD Card Then find the Apex Zip and install. OH YEAH DON'T FORGET TO RE ROOT FIRST!

I have folders on my sdcard called x_roms, x_themes, x_apps. They all start with x so they end up at the end of the list. I suppose I could have started with "a", but they were for my "X". All my roms, themes and apps go in the respective folder so I don't have to search for them. I have a similar folder structure on my computer.

Ok step by step...

1. First of all I opened AppBrain and synced all my apps to the cloud.
2. I opened Titanium Backup and made a fresh backup of my apps + data.
3. I opened Bootstrapper and made a fresh nandroid.
4. Then I downloaded the GummyJAR 2.5 zip straight from my phone.
5. I opened Root Explorer, clicked on 'SD card', then clicked on 'Download' and long pressed on the GummyJAR zip file and hit 'Save' from the options that came up.
6. Then I backed out into the SD card again and hit the 'Paste' button. My zip file is now on the root of my SD card.
7. Then I bootstrapped back into recovery.
8. 1st I hit 'Clear Cache', then I hit 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset'.
9. Then I clicked 'Choose Zip from SD card' (4th option from the top). Once it was open I clicked on 'Find Zip File' (2nd option from the top). Then I had to scroll all the way down to the bottom (zip files are always down at the bottom), you can't see it when the screen first opens, you must scroll all the way down.
10. I clicked on the zip file, and then scrolled down and hit 'Yes'.
11. It took about a minute to do it's thing and then said, 'done'.
12. Then I hit 'Reboot System'.

Done.
