Help Broken charging port

Whoa, nice to see you back, mine was loose, I applied a tiny bit of blackepoxy (J B weld) to the housing and body (with a toothpick, wiped off excess) of the phone with the battery door off and let sit over night, problem solved and it don't rattle no more!!! Yes! Fixed for 6 dollars.:D

Be VERY careful not to get any inside the port and wipe off any excess on the outside. It doesn't take much at all. The person who attempted it a while ago sai it worked beautifully.
If I were having this problem and was also having intermittent connection problems with the charger, I would try this with the charging cable plugged in and held with tape or rubber bands in the position of best connection until VERY cured.

My phone as well has stopped charging from regular chargers recently. Is it the charger port in the incredible 2?? That has to be replaced? I know my Incredible 1 charger and cable seems to work fine. The rest just don't seem to be working which they did 2 weeks ago. Did the verizon update screw this up???

I doubt the update screwed it up. We'd be hearing a lot more about it.
Chances are it is either your cable or the DInc2. If it is the DInc2, it will get worse. If it is just the cable, it wont.

Yeah ... I have never been a big fan of Moto, but the battery life and size of the phone were too inciting. I have had the MAXX for 3 days now and the battery life is amazing. I take it off the charger at 5:30am and dont put it back on till 11pm, with normal use my battery is at about 45% ... heavy use at about 35%
 
I recently started having the same USB port issue. Charging has been intermittent, and sometimes it looks like it is charging but it really isn't.

I bought my phone from Amazon Wireless less than a year ago, and Verizon has sent me out a replacement phone (its waiting in my mailbox right now).

MY PHONE WAS ROOTED!

I rooted it a while back using Revolutionary, but I was able to follow the instructions at RootzWiki to unroot the phone. I'm back to stock, and have S-ON set again. I had trouble getting ADB to connect since the USB doesn't work well, but I found that if you wiggle the plug around eventually it will make a connection. When it does, HOLD IT IN THAT POSITION! After holding it in that position and unrooting, I found that the connector was temporarily fixed.

I'll post an update when I find out if Verizon is going to give me a hard time about anything, but I don't expect they will. The phone has one minor scratch on the screen and that is about it as far as wear and tear goes.

IF YOUR PHONE IS UNDER A YEAR OLD AND YOU GOT IT THROUGH VERIZON THEN GET IT REPLACED!!!

So a little update ... I got the part and fixed my DInc2 ... I was telling a guy at work about it and he wanted to get into an Android phone and wasn't due for an upgrade for quite a while. He said he would give me $120 for it, and is now the proud owner of a rooted DInc2 ... It ended up costing me just $37 to upgrade to my MAXX ... that's a win-win in my book. I also told him about this site, he said he will be signing up in the next couple of days. As for the MAXX, it now has ICS and the battery life for me is as good as ever.
 
Glad that repair worked out. I hope to never have to do it, but I have two ports and the video on how to break it down just in case.
Money has gotten tighter with baby number one (thing 1) coming soon. I may be keeping this phone for some time, and will likely use at least one charging port.
 
my first DInc2 stopped charging, and I'd already read about the problem in the forum. Brought it back to the VW store (literally one day before my 1-year warranty ended), and now, a month later, I'm having the same problem. I read about the charger working if the phone is turned off, and I've just had success with this. If I leave it sleeping or use it when charging, the charge is lost.

Luckily, last time I sprang for an external battery charger so that's my backup if the phone won't keep a charge at all.

Is there any chance Verizon (or the store) would replace the phone again, now that it's out of warranty? Or let me upgrade without having to pay full price? I'm not due for new-every-2 until 3/2013.

Also, if I bought the phone at a VW store, can I take care of this problem directly with VW, and arrange for any exchange or trade-in,rather than going back to the store?

Same problem, my phone is rooted and I cant get computer to recognize it :mad:
Will restoring the phone unroot it? The phone is under warranty and i'd like it replaced

So last night my Dinc2 charging port gave out. After verifying that it wasn't the battery or the charger, I went to the VW store to see if they would replace the phone. Of course (Murphy's 13th Law), it was a week out of the 1-year warranty, so no help. I'll try some of earlier suggestions, but probably will have to buy a docking charger and 2nd battery. Damn, I wish they'd anticipate and/or fix this stuff before users have problems! This has taken me a whole day just to get this far!

Update: I have installed Juice Defender, ordered a second (extended) battery and dock/charger, and tomorrow I am taking my phone to a local cell phone repair shop to have them replace the mini USB port for $35. I'll post again in a few days with my experience.
 
While... this isn't exactly a fix for a broken charging port, when mine broke, I switched to using an inductive charger. The back case is slightly thicker than a standard case, but my TPU (flexible plastic case) still fits.. and it will charge with the case on.

The reviews on the Verizon website, at least in my experience, for the charging mat are incorrect on two important items:

1) my mat only beeps when the phone is placed on it to say it's charging -- it doesn't beep again when fully charged
2) it does keep the phone fully charged, so in the morning when I pick it up, it's a 100% charge (also no beep on pickup)

I've got about 10 months until I'm due to renew.. and when I do, I plan on getting a inductive cover for whatever my new phone is. It's a great overnight charging option to keep wear and tear down on the charging port.

I realize.. this doesn't help if a charge is needed and you're not at home... but it could be a nice bit of prevention to make a port last longer.

I am VERY careful with my charging port. The demise of two of my Eris phones was the charging port pushing on the trackball, so I started out being very sensitive to the idea.

I would like the option to use an inductive charger though. Anyone know exactly how much bulk it adds?

I am using the same TPU type case... it still wraps around the corners, but bows a bit at the sides.. so the thickness, while there, isn't much.

I do not know the exact extra size.
 
I have an HTC Droid 2 Incredible. I have changed the charging port on the phone because the old one was not working (which by the way was very easy-no soldering at all on this one).
I am having the same problem as before. The battery is not being charged at all. The computer shows that there is an issue with the connection when I connect so it wont recognized the phone.
I have used several different wall chargers and USB chargers to determine they are not the issue. I have factory reset the phone to see if it was a bug in the system. My phone is not rooted or changed at all from factory so that is not a problem.

Does anyone know what else I might try?

FYI--right now the phone is not hooked up to service so there is no internet connection. I am able to use wifi if needed.
 
I put the old charging port back in and found that with wiggling the power cord I did get a connection. So at this point I figure the charging port is bad. Looks like not all parts are good from the factory ---right!! When I get the new one I will let you all know if it works.

I know that this is an old thread with lots of replies, but I can tell you from experience that changing the charging port in this particular phone is relatively easy. If you have any skills you can do it yourseld if needed. I purchased the part from ebay and had it delivered to me for less than 10.00 including shipping. Even managed to get it from US so I did not have to wait 3-4 weeks.
 
damn now my dinc2 is not charging either :( I have tried all the batteries. Basically charging it just keeps it on but doesnt restore the battery. This phone is so not worth the money I am paying verizon .
