Help Broken Evo Charging Port Thread, Lets Track This Issue

I have had this happen to three of my users in the past two months. Just out of the blue they stop taking a charge. Two of them are careful with their phones.

You can add me as well to the list of broken USB Ports. Sprint insisted it was the charger. So finally they agreed to give me a new one. They were pretty nice to me after I showed the manager the 8 chargers I have bought from them. Still love my EVO.

Mine (well it's a friends EVO I'm selling) has a broken port. The story is she went to plug it in and just snapped. Sucks too, it's the one thing hurting the value, now I can't root it :(

try unrEvoked dot com from the phone's browser

So, I have kinda come across for an EVO from my friend for cheap, I'm trying to sell it but I've kinda falln for it. The kickstand is awesome, I love the retro Sence feeling(annoying but it's nice). Anyways, the ONLY flaw, broken charge port. It broke like clean off, and I can't solder it back on. If I buy a new one can it be soldered back on? I'm considering buying it off of her. I love my E3D but the E4G just has something about it I like.

I'd make a pros and cons list:

E3D pros:
Newer/more powerful
Longer dev support
Fully working (assumption)
E3D cons:
No kickstand (guessing, never seen the back of one actually)
Less Devs working on it.

Evo Pro:
Kickstand
More dev support

Evo Con:
Broken.
Not as powerful
Official support is ending (EoL)

Based on this list, I'd go with the 3D. That being said, I have an evo and I love it. But my charger works - so that's sure to be a plus for my device. Feel free to add to and change this list as you will. ;)

I like switching between phones, one perk to GSM just pop a chip. With Sprint I don't want to have to call everytime I want to use a new phone.

Well I got my Defective Refurshished HTC EVO from Sprint, poor Internet conectivity, MP3 player turns on and off, no messages come through, I made about 20 calls and they did not go through, and I have too reboot it every day. Went back to Sprint and they said I had two choices. 1. Upgrade for 100$. 2. Get another Used Refurbished Phone. Unacceptable:mad: I explained to them that I paid hard earned cash for the my phone. I did not buy a scratched up refurbished phone from them. So for the last 3 wks I have been calling Sprints corporate office over and over. Finally last nite at about 1:30 in the morning a supervisor listened to me and agreed that the customer is allways right. I will be getting a New HTC EVO in the mail. What a Night mare. I still like the EVO. Just frustrated.:(

Depends, did it break or take any of the board with it? Or is it a clean break from the sod points? Have seem a few broken Evo charge ports come into our shop lately, I always figured it was operator error, didn't realize it was an actual issue, any rate, you should be able to sodder it back on if it's a clean break, you.know, the actual board is fine, didn't damage any trace cuts, etc...

And it arrived today. My NEW HTC EVO:p. After dealing with the Local Sprint which was not willing to help me much:mad:. Sprint corporate company did listen. My advice to all of you Sprint customers out there. Keep all of your receipts. Sprint Corporate does not want to deal with bad publicity:eek:. Some times you have to go to such lengths to get your point across. I really do like my HTC EVO;). Not as fast as some of the newer phones out there. But it gets the job done. This site ROCKS:D. I continue to learn more and more of what my phone is capable of. Thank You:).

I had a broken charging port last fall. You could see it just flopping around. After a call to sprint, my local Sprint store replaced the phone AND battery (it was swollen).

Are the newest EVOs still having the same issue?

Add me to the list.

Got my EVO when it came out in June 2010. Was fine until randomly it didn't charge overnight last week. Checked and can sometimes get it to charge with one of my 4 chargers, but not the rest.

Am borrowing my girlfriend's old EVO (she went iPhone 4S and isn't looking back) until the contract is out, and then might then go Verizon. Either way will wait until iPhone 5 comes out and then decide between that and the whatever the best Android at that time is.

Maybe I should call the local Sprint store and see what they say at least.

Quick update. The New EVO 4 G is working just fine:). I haven't overloaded it with a bunch of apps that slow it down:eek:. I have discovered alot of ways to conserve my extended battery;). Got to use it in an area where 4 G is available. Amazingly fast. I will upgrade in May for sure:p. What to I don't know yet. Just happy me phone is working properly:D.

my usb charging port does not work as well! I had the evo for a year n I've been real careful with it! now I carry a spare battery with a battery-charger

I gave in and upgraded... Moved to Verizon, bought an LG Spectrum, I can go anywhere within 50 miles of my home and have LTE, with Sprint I have to drive 25 miles to find 4g, and so far the only place I've been and connected to 4g with it, was on the interstate! sleigh my family plan is going to cost almost $100 more...

I loved my Evo, but when Verizon told me I could trade it in for $85 it was gone, I didn't even go home to swap the extended battery out first, afraid they would change their mind! Then I found out Amazon had the Spectrum for $59...

After the new HTC Evo LTE comes out, I hope my port breaks again. I'll ask for the upgrade knowing I won't have LTE in my market immediately but can wait. That's a fair tradeoff that hopefully they'll go for.

I don't want my Evo port to break again though. It works just fine, and I have pretty good Wimax coverage.

Went to a local Sprint store to have my port checked out. Rep said that if the port is still attached to the circuit board, it can be exchanged for another Evo for free. HOWEVER, if it is detached, it is seen as physical damage caused by the user, thus requiring the $100 fee. Mine was detached. Canceling TEP coverage tomorrow anyway.

My port has shown the same symptoms but the culprit turns out to be the charger - works fine with a different charger.

hmm when i plug in the sd card, it just tell me to format it though. i thought we needed the phone as the ... translation device of sorts?

Had this happen to me last night.. at first it was intermittently not charging and this morning it wouldn't charge at all. Took my phone in today to a sprint store and they said they will be mailing me a different evo 4g. He was really vague on the how long it would take though. Any ideas of the average turnaround time of when I should be expecting my replacement evo?
