Root Broken record...

This may sound all to familiar, but it's Sunday, people are coming over and I just don't have time to comb through the seemingly endless threads about updating to the latest version and how to do it. Plus, my situation may be a bit different from the rest as I think I am still on the original 2.2 leak. Maybe not so different.

I would like to update to the latest build, but I am not sure where to start. I have never SBF'd and I don't really have a lot of time to try and figure it out. Hopefully there is an easy way to get to what I want.

Here's a screen shot of what I am running now...

FlyX Final over the original leak (I think), plus I have been going back and forth between a couple themes. NEXtheme and this new Christmas theme.

I would love to be able to just update to this new build without losing anything and without having to ADB, SBF, or any other assortment of acronyms. Possible??? I hope.

If you can help, please do. If you would rather point me to the 'Search' feature of this forum, well, by all means, let me have it. Thanks in advance.

I actually did this last Thursday as I ran FlyX for the longest time.

You need to SBF back to 2.1. Than accept or start the OTA updates to update everything.

Dont worry doing the SBF process isnt as hard as you think.

I also suggest than flashing Apex after you get everything updated.

Well, shoot. Not the answer I was looking for.

Ok, so if I have to SBF, what file to I SBF to? What method is super easy to do and can be done on a Mac?

I have the TBH app with downloads to a ton of stuff (which is great BTW), but I am not sure which would work best to SBF to. I would really like to get this done soon because that new Apex rom looks really nice.

You dont have to sbf. You can use the update.zip from tbh app.. Much easier...

Wait, for real? So, I can use the new update.zip to go from a themed FlyX (over the original 2.2 leak) to the latest leak? That is good news if true. Which file would I use from TBH?

Thanks again in advance.

Some of the advice here does not apply to you and might mess you up.

You do have to sbf. Do it when you have the time and not when you're in a rush. Let me know.

I agree, I would SBF. I didn't want to do it either but now I am glad I did. It takes ~1.5 hours including download and install time. Very, very simple.

Why does he have to sbf? If he has a stock nandroid backup, can't he just restore that and update OTA from there?

Why in the world would that mess him up? Why would the update.zip not work.. It worked fine for me and many others here? Please explain.....

He could use the 2.3.320 to update his bl kernal etc... Then update to .34.

OK. I would love to know more. What was your config before you used the update?

I decided to wing it. Just updated to .320 and then to Fab's Apex 1.3.

Pretty sweet and pretty painless. I figure I can go through the SBF process when I have to. Thanks for everyone's help.

How did you do it?

I stumbled on a link to another forum that had a link to a download to an update.zip and instructions on how to use it. It also said that is would work for ALL 2.2 ROMs so I figured it was worth a shot.

I could have either SBF'd to begin with or take my chances and SBF if it went horribly wrong. Glad I jumped because it was a piece of cake AND I never lost root.

I wish I had that link that included the update file, because It seems to me that it would help a lot of people. Dang. If anyone has that link, please post here so others may have it.
