I did a factory reset on my Evo as per the suggestion of a discussion on 3G speed improvement and overall performance. I've had my Evo for about 9 months and have used it for maybe 3 of those 9 months. Mostly I'm a BlackBerry user, but since upgrading my 9650 to OS 6 and definitely NOT loving it, I figured it was time to give the Evo with Gingerbread another look. After upgrading to Gingerbread (I re-activated my BlackBerry when Froyo was still the latest for the Evo) I did the factory reset thinking it was a good idea to have a clean install and weed out the stray apps I no longer use or want.
I find that now when I open my browser, even though Google is set as my homepage I often (but not always) get a site that says "Battery Update" with the exclamation in a triangle. It looks official, but it's really just a link to the Marketplace and some jackoff's battery app. The spam actually says 2 updates available, one for doubling my battery life and one for speeding up the Evo's overall performance. Seriously?? How did this f******* get his spam to hijack my browser? And more importantly how do I banish this garbage forever (short of finding the tosser and hitting him with a bat)?
