Root Bugless Beast 0.7.6 released

watching a YouTube app right now in BB 0.7.6 with no issues.
Do you have SetCPU installed, and if so, have you checked your settings? Some DROIDs don't play nice at the max (1200 MHz) setting that BB 0.7.6 allows for....

What are you guys that are having issues running at with this new kernel? I have had issues with some of Taz's kernels in the past but so far, 24 hours now with BB 7.6 and 3-4 days prior to that with Sholes 2.0.5 (same kernel I believe) I have been rock solid at 1.2GHz. YouTube videos play fine, no FC's...It's been solid. Now Sholes 2.0.5 started giving me minor fits with FC's but only a few and I switched to BB 7.6 cause Pete's ROMS always seem to be just a little more stable in my experience.

Why don't you try a "known good" kernel with 7.6? If you could run solid with 1100 on an older kernel...load that up and see if it is the ROM or the kernel. Evilboot 1000 awhile back worked perfect for me but later releases of 1GHz kernels were pretty unstable (although it would run...just random reboots and that kind of thing).

I am using the kernel that came with BB 0.7.6, I never ended up using a dif kernel since it came with support for 1200 MHz OOB....

I ran Bugless Beauty for awhile and was adding whatever kernels I could find to see what worked best. You can just load the "boot" portion of the nandroid backup from another clocked rom or you could load one of the older kernels that was stable for you before they added the OC onto the ROM itself. I have some files if you need. PM me with an email address and I'll shoot some over in a zipped file.

I did that with BB 0.7.2 on up. I have the evilBoot.imgs (all of them AFAICT) before they were pulled from AllDroid - didn't we talk about this last night?

lol...

I am pretty sure that a few of my 171 apps that are on my phone are causing this issue with BB - I am inclined to think that it might actually be WaveSecure, as that is one of the ones that likes to start up that is not a part of the official ROM, so....

But I don't have the time to test now...and I performed a full wipe and Nandroid install with 0.7.5 just a week ago, so I don't feel like going through that again.

I am honestly happy at 1100, so it's no big deal for me.

I had the deja vu feeling when I was typing it...now I know why and now I remember that conversation. You mentioned your Windows 95 software collection right? See...I haven't totally lost my mind!

Anyway, the offer stands for anyone else that doesn't keep 15 year old software :D

I use those all the time to benchmark ROMS against each other. The old evilboot ROMS seemed to benchmark better than the newer ROMS. I was running 1GHz and getting 185-200ms consistantly. with the 1GHz kernel that Taz released after that, mine benchmarked above 200ms most of the time.

Funny you should say that - I got as low as 130, and was consistently getting high 150s to low 160s with the evilBoot 1100, but with this BB I am only getting mid to high 180s....

I might just go back to the evil I have DL'd....

Thanks for the tip.

Well I just took it down to 1000MHz and I ran about 20 benchmarks. Not ONCE did I get less than 200ms. My lowest was 209...I am off to flash the boot for evilboot1000 and I will report back in 10 minutes.

Me too, then. To Hades with this!

Heh - easier than I thought - I already had it saved in the Nandroid dir I made on the SDCard...flashing now.

it ain't the boot img....

I am getting worse times with the old evilboot.img at 1100, even after resetting all of the SetCPU profiles....

Now to push the Nandroid backup of BB 0.7.6 to my phone and do a boot img restore to get back to BB 0.7.6....

Oh what fun.....

Okay, so the Evilboot1G is what the old kernel was called...it still shows up on SetCPU with a max of 999MHz. Anyway, I ran a bunch of benchmarks and was consistently getting around 205 ms. I had those random tests that reached 240 ms or whatever (like all ROMS do) and I had a couple of benchmarks that hit around 160 ms. 205-207 seemed to be the norm though. Funny! Okay back to the new kernel cause while less efficient...it is stable at 1.2GHz ;)

To be more exact, no times below 195, whereas with the default kernel from BB 0.7.6 I was at least in the mid 180s....

I have it back at 1200 now and am testing stability....I might actually have it this time around, let's see.

Thanks...yeah, setcpu installed, I'm at 1000 max/250 min, w/various profiles in place to limit further during charging, etc.

Tried it at 800 as well, still no joy. About to try putting Adamz's kernel back on to see if that has any affect on youtube videos not playing. I was running Adamz's kernel w/BB 8.7 at 1000 w/out issues.

nope - just booted when at 1200 - sigh.

That's interesting that the evilboot is faster with my phone and slower with yours. I wish I understood the differences between the kernels that causes one to be faster than the other when set at the same frequency. 1200 no good with yours 1100 (in the past kernels) was no good for me. Definitely more finicky than a processor used in in computers when it comes to OC. I would assume that to be the case but working at 1200 and not working at 1100 is just a little strange.

OK - flashed Adamz's updated kernel (2/17) over 7.6 and videos are working again...same CPU speed (1000).

Something about Adamz's kernel plays nicer w/my Droid for some reason...

Have you done a nandroid backup? You might want to get into recovery and do a factory reset and then clear the cache and then restore to your backup. Other than that...I would say to start with a fresh install and then manually reload your apps...pain in the butt I know but it might help.

You could also do a nandroid backup and then a factory reset. After that, load the nandroid backup of BB 0.7.6 that Pete posted. Don't install apps or anything , just try out the YouTube vids with a "fresh" installation.

Sorry if I'm talking to you like you are new to this...I just never know so I stress "Backups!" whenever I can to avoid someone loosing their data.

@UBRocked - I know one thing - I have too many damned apps on this phone - not a lot of memory, and a lot of things running at boot - so that means it is going stir crazy with all the crap I have installed.

I bet if I killed a bunch of apps I would get better performance...

Right now I can't get gTasks to work - it was working before, but after flashing back to the default BB kernel it shows as installed but is not actually working.

Troubleshooting it now...

Keep an eye on that. I know what your saying about the number of apps (damn...delete something you packrat! :D ) but I only have approximately 30 apps loaded on mine and I had issues with Facebook and Pandora. I couldn't delete them from the market but they were deleted and I couldn't run them. I had to do a new Nandroid restore to the stock version of BB 7.6 and they came back. I have never seen that so I could be the ROM giving you those fits. Pillow is calling my name. Don't spend too much time with it! :)

WTF - why would I be running about 900ms with 10mflops at the 1200mhz BB 7.6?
The ms seems WAAAAY off, but the Droid feels very quick.

Is there something that would majorly effect the bench?
Home++ - Beautiful (small home) widget - handcent widget - 2 gmail widgets - power widget - settings profile widget - setcpu widget....
These are the only suspects, but none of these run in the background or send data explicitely.
