Help Bugs/problems so far on the A500

TEJ2567

Lurker
I got my A500 this past Monday, and found the following bugs/problems. Was wondering if anyone else had these problems

1) Doesn't look like Exchange server is an option under the Android email program. Anyone else have that problem?
2) Trying to add Facebook under Accounts & Sync. When I select Facebook, screen just blinks, and does nothing. I'm wondering if thats just because the Facebook App is still goofed up.

Anyone else have these problems? Acer support is no help, and they want me to pay to get additional tech support...

Tim

The problems you are having appear to do more with Honeycomb, rather than the device itself. The main issue I have (everyone) is Flash only works with the stock browser and some apps like IGN and TigerMAME are small windows on the display (no scaling). These issues at least are Honeycomb related.

Only bugs I've experienced are not being able to delete pic ( which is now resolved), the delayed typing and my browser occasionally closes for no reason?? Other than that all seems to be fine

For exchange access I'm using touchdown for tablets, well worth a look.

I was looking at that. I was just trying to consolidate all of my email under one program instead of one with my Gmail, one with my work account, and another one with my ISP email account. I think it's available on the Xoom, so I would think it's something that Acer has shut down or something like that.

I'm having a problem syncing from my Windows 7 PC. I've installed the USB driver and also the Acer Sync software on the PC, but once the USB cable is connected, the Sync software fails to detect the A500. That said, I can see the A500 in Windows Explorer, but when I try to drag files across, I get a "device no longer connected" dialogue.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions?

Works fine on Vista and XP. Windows 7 is very common, so you world think a computer OEM would not have issues like this. I wonder if it is a device or software conflict?

Hi,

I had a Win 7 PC with USB problems as well.

I resolved this problem by cleaning up my system registry, reinstall USB 2.0 Legacy drivers for Win 7 and reinstall Iconia A500 USB drivers. The problem was too many mobile devices cluttering up the USB Legacy registry causing USB connection conflict.

Previously I connected all my (and my family member's) mobile devices to the family Win 7 PC. Now I only connect my Android mobile devices to the PC (Win 7) and my iDevices to my MacBook Pro.

Hope this helps.

cheers :)

Hmm. Well, having been frustrated by it last night (and running out of charge on the A500), I switched the whole lot off and went to bed.
This morning, with a fully-charged A500, it seems to work fine. I wonder if it shuts down some functionality when charge is below 10%?
Either way, if the issue recurs, I'll report back. Thanks for suggestions.

It may do. My USB port wouldn't work when I was around 10%.

One issue starting to get to me is Flash not working steadily. I never had an issue on the gTablet with Flash in any browser that supports it. Dolphin worked last night, but now both HD and Mini fail to play any Flash (update: Now working again) and then not. I posted a fair review (IMO) of the device in the forum, but will not just stick to the good stuff.

I am also running into issues where apps will sometimes not install and I have to reboot a few times for them to install. I also have noticed where some apps showed I need to install them, but they already were.

Update:

I stick by my review, but there could be some FW issues (or a poor choice of user app installs):

1. Flash randomly works with Dolphin HD and Mini. Still have stock browser, but still seems odd.
2. Market apps sometimes fail to install apps and several reboots are required to install.
3. Some apps that were installed will show as not installed in the market under "My apps". This also impacts update status.
4. Sometimes the device gets a little bogged down and requires a reboot (par for Android, I believe).

It could be user error, but I would expect this more to be the case if the device was rooted and I messed with system files- not a stock device.

Potential issues causing these things:

1. Dolphin could be a Honeycomb issue?
2. Market having issues yesterday evening?
3. Apps showing not installed- I am going insane?
4. Some apps not designed for Honeycomb causing issues? My bet is this may be an issue.

Update #2

Seems a lot of issues may be due to using non-Honeycomb apps. I did use Astro to install 260 apps (yes I am sad) from my gTablet backup. I am going to zap some apps to test the theory.

Latest update of flash 10.2 is to fix browser integration but requires an upcoming update to Honeycomb. Not sure when that's due though.

I made a HD video the resolution the same as the a500 spec and it lags so bad! I am upset with this the device can't even Handle a HD video, the ipad2 (I tested the pad, xoom' now iconia) vevo app had perfect video resolution and looked great I put it on here and the videos look no where near as good. I am on it now and the text lagging is annoying. The xoom was much faster then this. I got this because the USB drive charge my phone while I tether my 4g. (Horrible battery on my indulge) I never downloaded the vevo app for the xoom but I should at the store next time I go to see if its just as bad. I also bought this because it supposeitvly has the same specs as the xoom which isn't totally true. I don't know which one to get if I am even going to get one this is rediculas. Doesn't the xoom have a 600mhz front side bus we don't?

After getting rid of some apps that I suspected were causing some of my issues, my A500 is solid. I do not have the lag you mention and am content with 720p video or lower, due the file size of higher def. The one issue I continue to have is apps can sometimes be an issue to install and I will get "installation unsuccessful". This seems to be my main and only issue now.

Help! Most of the apps I try to buy via Market says "Sorry page for apps cannot be found" or something like that. Is that a Honeycomb Android 3.0 problem? Would buying apps on Amazon Apps store be better? Where else can I get android apps. I like my A500 so far but a lot of time I don't know how to quit apps there is no quit button? I used it mostly for kindle eBay web surfing and photo & videos...

to quit an app you can...
- hit the back button
- whilst using an app>hit the menu button and then hit exit/quit
- press the home button and the go to settings>applications>running services>"name of app">stop

when you are getting that message in the app market just hit the back button instead of hitting OK. Or you can just go to the app market from the web instead of using your app.

I believe Honeycomb is still buggy at its current state, most of the applications I constantly use (like the built in browser, pulse) tend to crash at least once a week, could be more but I wasn't counting.

Skype doesn't work. It keeps crashing as soon as you try to make a call on it. It then kills the wifi connection and forces a reboot. Other than that and a bit of lag on typing things I am happy with it so far. Everything these days has bugs, they are eventually worked out with updates. We just have to either stick with what we get or trade it in for some other deal. The issue is that nothing is sheer perfection, and as humans we will never be satisfied.

Bugs for me:

1. Can not install apps if less than 1gb of internal storage free (confirmed by other users too), so 1gb of wasted space.

2. Wifi seems unstable with low signal areas and will lose and regain connection about every five minutes or so. Tested on several routers by going to "one or two" bar range and streaming Youtube or downloading files over about 30 minutes each time to test (I am compulsive like that). The wifi does not do this in three and four bar signal areas.

3. Copy function when hooked up to a computer has no issues copying files TO the internal storage, but copying files FROM the internal storage is problematic (will not always copy all files and will stop before complete, with no error reported). Not sure if this is due to MTP or the A500. None the less, backing up a full internal storage is a PITA.

4. Power supply sucks so bad, is its own species of bugs. Easily the worst power supply I have had and this includes some of the $5 with "free" shipping eBay ones. Acer should be ashamed of such a terrible PS. This PS is a POS.

What version of Droid do you all have.I keep seeing people saying they have 3.0 and when I bought mine it cane with 3.0.1 is this a newer version or what. I have none of the issues that I hear about....

Hi All Newbie here.I have had my Acer A500 for almost 5 weeks so i'm still learning about it and so far "touchwood" i love it.The only gripe i have (it may sound "picky") but no matter how long i leave the battery to charge it will not fully charge to 100% it always only goes upto 90%.

four or so tablets, some cheap ones. But I think that was exactly what was going on. You were low on power that is it.:)
