Help Burnt in Screen

Recently I noticed cleary my screen has a burnt image of my homepage. Its only visible when the background is solid white. Seems to be getting worse though. Wondering if anyone else has this problem?
 
This really should not happen, especially in 2 months of use. I would take it to Verizon immediately and demand a brand new replacement as well as 2 months service credited and a free case, charger, car charger, mount, and screen protectors...

That's just how ridiculous this post is, it deserves a ridiculous response :)

While it is true that AMOLED is prone to burn-out (especially blues), no one has had their phones long enough that even those should be burning out yet. Even early AMOLED blue pixels had a 10,000 hour lifetime, and (generously) halving that assuming that a full brightness will burn them out faster, we (at worst) should only begin to see some dimming, and minimal amount at that. Current screens are rated at around 30-50k hours on blue, so we REALLY shouldn't be seeing issues.

Thanks for the explanation. Will definitely be returning it to Verizon now. Just don't want to be stuck without a phone since no Dincs are available at the moment.

He's talking about burn IN, not burn OUT. That said, I can't imagine how he could be experiencing either unless he's literally left his screen on 24/7 since the day he got the phone.

OLEDs don't burn-in - but the eventual burnout of some colors can create a similar effect. Read about it (I had the same thoughts before some research). ;)
 
Its burn in. Only shows when its a solid white background. Example, Boot upscreen and google search page. Has basically a distinct burn in image of my htc clock widget and a more faint camera icon in the bottom left with some other faint home screen icons. Wish I knew how to take a snapshot for reference. I have the screen all the way up in brightness all the time. However, I don't leave it on very much to cause this to happen. Since I'm fairly new to the smartphone arena, didnt know if this happens from time to time.

You can't take a "snapshot" of your screen and show this "burn in". You'd have to physically take a picture of the phone. A screenshot of the phone would only show what data is being displayed onscreen, it wouldn't show any physical damage.
 
Red is a co-worker and I can vouch for his issues. Whether it is burn-in or burnout, the fact is that you can clearly see the HTC Clock widget as well has various icons and the notification bar. I will be uploading pics tonight.
 
The burn in is really noticeable on a blue screen. In person, the white screen is almost as noticeable on blue, however my camera wasn't able to pick it up as well. The burn in is there, but very faint on other colors like red and green.

Hmm, that is indeed very strange, but again I remain skeptical. Unless they used a really, really cheap screen or you got one heck of a defect.. This does seem to agree with the information available regarding blue LEDs having a shorter life than others. Maybe you got a refurb screen?

How did you make the screen blue, anyway?

I'd still take it to Verizon and demand one heck of a compensation though. If this is legit, it's a really bad sign, especially if others start seeing this happening.
 
That is exactly what i was saying.. its not burn-in, its burn-OUT - the blue pixels on that screen are wearing out, and thus appear much dimmer than others. In this case, it produces a burn-in effect, since there is a brightness difference that leads to image preservation. Blue cells on an OLED burn out the fastest, which is exactly why you notice it so much more on a blue screen.

Either way, that is easily grounds for warranty replacement, and i would not hesitate to go to big V and demand a new phone.
 
BTW - do you think we could get more info on this? Specifically, while I am not surprised that the boxes around the clocks have burnt-out (ok, i am surprised at any burn-out, but..), i am curious as to what happened that made 8:30 burn-out as well. Did the phone haven OS crash and the screen stayed on with the time the same for a really long time?

Anyway, I certainly don't doubt this issue is real, and i hope VZ can get you a replacement ASAP. Please be sure to let us know how it all turns out.

My guess is that 0, 3, 6, 8, and 9 all have similar shapes. Given the shape similarity and frequency of the numbers showing up in those respective areas, that may be why that is what is burning-out.
 
Not sure when it happend. Just noticed it one day. Has progressively got worse though over time. Also, I have a major issue with my home row lights constantly staying on when they should be off. Went to verizon on Friday. They said it definitely falls under warranty replacement but couldn't do anything because they didn't have any incredibles in stock. Gave me the tech number and said a new one would be shipped out in 2-3 days.
 
Red - it sounds like perhaps the screen was never really turning off (as hinted by the home screen buttons), and so the time had... time. ;) to burn in.

Anyway, thank you for the update - glad to see big V taking care of you. :)
 
Hmm I wonder if this is the reason for the severe shortage of thee phones? They are saying popularity but this indeed would be a problem also...
