Help Butt-dialing: how do I stop calling people by accident?

I have a number of direct dial icons on my home screen, and much to my embarrassment I'm finding that my phone is calling people by accident, probably when I either put the phone in my pocket or holster. Apparently I called a bunch of people this weekend and didn't realize it. Yikes.

What's the best solution to this? I guess I could move those icons to a side screen. Any other suggestions?
 
Personally. I just press the side button to lock the phone when I am finished with it. Have you something odd going on that is preventing that function from working?
 
I didn't even know this was possible with a phone that barely had any physical buttons other than "Lock", and "Volume Up/Down"
 
Can't resist..true story..wife & I are walking downtown..her phone is ringing in the black hole of her handbag..I say: "your phone's ringing"..she fishes it out..says "it's you calling!"..I pull my phone out of my pocket..and sure enough somehow I had dialed her phone from my pocket...that was a hoot..so it can happen..how? Don't ask me..but I would think it would be difficult at best with the Captivate if you lock the screen

It it keeps up have some Mexican food for lunch one day and see if your butt starts "voice" dialing.

Wear underwear and fix the holes in your pockets. :D
