Bye bye Captivate

I would like to point out that I'm not "bad mouthing" iPhone or Apple. I think Apple makes fine products proven by my Macbook. I'll never go back to Windows PC's. The iPhone was a good smart phone too in it's time. When you're with AT&T you don't have much choice in smart phones. Really just the iPhone and two Android phones the HTC Aria (too toy like) and the Captivate. I was waiting for the 4th generation iPhone to come out and when it did I thought, this is it??? Disappointing to say the least and then Apple tells me that the phone reception is going to be worse than my 3GS if I don't hold the phone right??? I'm not changing cell phone providers to get a phone I want. If I was with Sprint I would probably be in the HTC EVO forum telling everyone how much I like that phone and how much better it is than the Captivate. The Captivate (in my opinion) is the best thing AT&T has to offer right now. Don't get me started on Windows smart phones. That's a joke. My brother has one and is ready to throw it out the window.

Apple has admitted this is an antenna design flaw.

I understand this, but the flaw does not affect everyone all the time.

When I traded in my captivate for the iphone, i was quite apprehensive until the free bumper came in. What I discovered was that I was not able to recreate the problem. WITHOUT the bumper. In other words I don't have that problem. Further the free case program ended in September - so, either the problem is way smaller than expected or the problem was corrected.

Either way the only time I had reception issues was on the tip of Isle of Palms, SC. And at that time so too did my wife and daughters -- all with other types of cell phones on the same network.

Funny thing though the captivate if held a certain way like the death grip - can make bars come and go - I had this happen to me at my office and when I was in a restaurant with my kids I had no service while they both had 2 or more bars - go figure.

I love the responses... Why can't people accept the flaws with this phone, what's the big deal... No phone is perfect, for example, Apple's notification system on iPhone sucks... Whenever you get a notification or text, everyone can read it or it interrupts your work... That's a flaw with the iPhone and I have no beef admitting it or confirming such... Captivate is not perfect and I was replying previously to the claims being made which were not 100% accurate... And no, won't be going away anytime soon... I have no regrets ditching my Captivate but monitor progress here to see if and when Samsung finally updates this phone...

Nothing wrong with that...but I suggest you monitor progress here: on mute, since you're really not adding anything to the discussions from what I can tell

The best thing about the forum is, you don't have to read my post or this thread for that matter. Feel free to skip or simply not read. I've come across my share of frustrating posts and I stay calm and collective, no need to insult or make someone not welcome.

Captain, I totally understand where you are coming from, I can see how using an iPhone for that long would make you want to jump ship and see something new. But please understand, what makes a forum fun is the exchange of information. Recommendations, experiences, comparisons, etc. Unfortunately, not everyone here take these with a grain of salt. I'm not trying to be personal nor am I a Fanboy. Like you said, if AT&T would offer different options besides the Captivate we would be talking about those instead. I never got a chance to truly experience Android, was stuck with a contract and all AT&T was willing to do to help me out was give me an iPhone. Being my first iPhone, I find it to be polished and delivering what I paid for. Yes, like I said before, there are some issues.

Anyways, without beating this to a pulp, I hope we can continue to exchange ideas or recommendations or experiences. With that said, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Jas2k9, like you, I found that a case goes a long way with an iPhone4 and to date have not had any signal problems.

I agree. I've learned a lot in forums whether it be this forum, the iPhone forum or a forum with people that drive the same kind of car I do. Let's all be thankful that we have these great devices to talk about and compare.

Have a great Thanksgiving. :)

We have a "mixed marriage". My DH wanted an iPhone. We're Apple people from pre-Mac days. He wanted a cool phone that he didn't have to learn. We each have an iPod touch. I love the touch, but I have known for some time that I didn't want an iPhone.

I use my Google account for nearly everything and set up a calendar that we can share over a year ago. I wanted my new phone to play nicely with Google and I wanted to be able to add memory or change the battery, etc. We've had refurbished Blackberry Pearls for 2 years. It was a workhorse. DH needed a bigger screen.

Both of us are fully happy with the phones we have. I did get a Backflip first and returned it within a week. You know when you have the wrong phone.

Now I just have to message gcobb and find out how to do all the "trick" stuff.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of those helpful members on here that helped me get my phone somewhat operable over the past 3 weeks.

I have concluded though, that this phoen - at best - is an incomplete product. It has the most potential of any phone I've ever had. It's not limited by the app store, and not so open that it's prone to viruses. It has great features (screen, swipe, etc) and some terrible features (email sucks, gps, etc) and overall my experience has been somewhat positive.

I listed my phone on ebay two days ago and today it will sell for close to $400. At that amount of money, I can afford the $399 for the iPhone 4G and while I hate the app store, I love that this phone is a polished product.

If Android keeps going the way they are, I have no doubt that I'll be back. But until then I need something better at email, as my job revolves around it.

Best wishes to all,
Brandon

Well Brando, let me be the first to say that this place just hasn't been the same since you and your twelve post left. I lay awake at nights wondering, worrying how you and the "boys" are doing if you've had enough to eat and a roof over your heads. I wonder what you look like now and how big the post must be by now. I also wish thing's could have been different between us, the post and that damn Captivate the drove you from us. I wish you only the best and hope you can someday find the strength to forgive us, we only wanted the best for you... :-(
