Bye Captivate hello Motorola ATRIX 4g

Well i am sorry it as come to this i have had two captivates since there release... My first got bricked up by the software update from AT@T .And the second one as of a week ago as started the dreaded switch itself off. Well i contacted the warranty dept for the second time and the answer was yes we will replace it with a Referbished one.. Well i payed for the phone so they should replace it with a new one, All the proplems i have read about these phones on this forum and others is the phone as proplems that need to be sorted out ASAP. Like we are all not made of money to either keep replacing the phone, or sevices we pay for that dont work right like sending picture messages loosing conactivaty to the internet.. I am not knocking the phone its the support they dont seem to know what they are doing.. I am sick of ringing at@t on trying to get the phone sorted out, Sometimes i have been on the phone with them for 4 to 5 hours trying to get the phone working.. So anyway i shall be putting my captivate to sleep soon lol.. As i shall be going back to motorola as soon as they release the new Motorola ATRIX 4g... witch is supossed to be released soon.......

Premature thread in my opinion.

Since there's no launch date on the Atrix yet, I don't think you'll be putting your "Captivate to sleep" in the near future. Just because something announces at CES, doesn't mean it will be available to us in the next 30 days.

I'll be in that same boat if 2.2 is isn't out by the time the atrix or htc's inspire is released.

It would be ironic if 2.3 came out a week after the atrix..

Edit:

also

I do see a certain catch in your post.

If its at&t service not helping that is the problem.

What are you going to do if your atrix is defective?

If it has 2.2, working gps and doesn't shut off, it's a success.

Hi there i spoke to AT@T today about it they gave me a rough time when this and the other new phones may be released. Put as i said in the post before it is coming soon if it takes 6 months or more soon as it is released i shall be getting one but sales rep did say in the first quarter and by what she said it could be before. So it is a waste of time to exchange or take another upgrade yet incase so i shall wait.. Will post back any info thx for your reply...

Yea it is and AT@T do what they can i have had np with them at all they try to help then they but you through to samsung and i have told them the proplems i have been having so they say send the phone in will take 5 to 6 working days before you get it back... And i have read alot have done that then when it comes back after so long it goes again.. So to me i am going back to motorola witch i have had most of my mobile phones and never had any proplems with i do like the captivate but at the momment its not reliable thx for your reply....

Oh guys! almost forgot.. there was a post over at XDA about the shutting off being a hardware problem..

If your serial number falls into a certain range you might be able to get it replaced.

Umm well thats the captivates problems, who knows what problems the Atrix will have. Might not get the update to 2.3 or 2.4 when they come out, it might have a less that perfect touchscreen, it definately has no beautiful sAMOLED. Every phone's gonna have problems, albiet, the GPS for some is a huge problem. Whose to say the Atrix wont have a faulty mic that dies a few months into ownership, or freezing problems? Please dont bash everything just because it has problems. Best bet is to wait until a week or two after release and find reviews and a forum such as this to make an educated decision. I did just that when I chose the Captivate, as with Google maps and directions, I found the GPS less important to me.. TO ME. Some might need the GPS. I do not. I knew of the Captivate's issues when I bought it. I'd advise you do the same before buying any 200$ phone. I love my Captivate and the more a tinker, the more I like it. If i went back to out of box, it would make me insane... the lag! Just because I know what it can be. So do your research and don't jump on the prettiest or best specs. As I assume you did with the Captivate.

You know.. I was beginning to think I was the only one in the world worried about the atrix possibly having a flawed release.

With that said, I'm picking up the captivate tomorrow :D (hopefully, finally... stupid at&t..)

Your not the only one man, good luck with your captivate tomorrow;)

As long as they don't turn around and tell me there is an early upgrade fee everything should go smooth.

But, since that wasn't an issue with the flight II I think I should be good tomorrow as well.

Oh joy. Now we have all new cellphone models for people to make their arrogant "i'm switching, and I'm really important so I think everybody should know" posts about :rolleyes

I mean no longer is it switching to iPhone, now it's Atrix 4g! Cool!

Anyways, I will probably switch too, but not because the Captivate is bad, just because I'm a gadget slut and want the latest phones. Not sure if I'll switch to Atrix or Infuse, or heck maybe even a Verizon model, yet though.

Oh and yeah, the Captivate had some problems as all new hardware does, so I am a little worried about getting a new phone on the first day...should be ok with Infuse though since it's a glorified Captivate..less so with Atrix...

Sometimes I just wonder if these forums are not also populated with paid product bashers. Regardless of the type wether a Stock Market forum or Phone Forum, there is alot of money to be made from the basing of a product and getting people to go elsewhere.
I have to admit that this seems to be a norm on the 3 or 4 forums I visit al-biet that my viewing of these forums comes less often ( I really get tired of the 14 year olds that mommy and daddy bought them a expensive phone just to shut them up and let them redirect their hormonal imbalances toward hacking/moding and Bricking and BITCHING about their phone. then crying about the why the next real update bricked their phone.)
Frankly I love my Cappy (stock/non-rooted/non mod'd) I enjoy it on a daily basis.
When a clean update of Froyo comes out I will happily upgrade (I'm looking forward to the new features). I don't really need a ROM or Flash from Northern WhoGivesARipistan that makes my GPS 2 feet more accurate than the 10 ft I get now.

So after all that my question would be, What is the purpose of comming to a forum to tell everyone they want a differnet phone. My bet is if you go to that forum, there will be the same types of people bashing that product.

It would be great if this forum would install Bovine Scat Meters for these kinds of messages.

Hey Andrea was it you who posted the BestBuy info about release for the Atrix in the Atrix forum? Not sure if it was you but I figured the op might benefit and even some in here from that info if they plan or are thinking of switching.:)

Just flash a rom and you will have 2.2 and the phone will be smoother than ever

Hacking, voiding of the warranty, bricking, and introducing new quirky issues isn't for everyone nor should it be expected behavior.

There is nothing wrong with people who want to hack their phone, fully-aware of the risks. But nor is there anything wrong with people who expect their phone to work just fine with the official firmware on it.

Word, but some are even starting there own threads about it too, like anybody really gives a dang if you switch phones...

Your right there i have had 2 of them now i have never flashed roms or whatever they have been stock phones... The second one i have had for about 7 to 8 weeks before it started the switching off proplem i have not downloaded many apps just battery checker and radar now and a cpl of others.. And as for the first one bricking up i had that was a at@t tech saying there was a software update that solved the proplem of sending picture messages through edge and the phone was not recieving the update told me to goto the local store get new sim card come back home ring them back and they would walk me through how to do the software update. So they did soon as the software downloaded it said failed to install will reboot the phone that was it it never come back on that was the jh7 update.

The second one i bought at the at@t store did not have the jh7 update on so he took it into the back downloaded something called kias and updated it for me worked fine i could send picture messages then after about 4 weeks that went it would send one now and again they said that my signal strength could be going up and down goto store and buy a micro cell for a 150 dolls why should i, i pay enough now been trying to sort that proplem out from just before xmas now the shut offs started a cpl of weeks ago... And i am no kid that updates phones unlocks them or whatever to see what they can do i have bought 2 of these phones both let me down and its time to change...What i said in the other post i have had motorola phones before and none i have bough have ever let me down..So when i herd of the atrix coming out soon thats what i am going for..... and thx for your reply....
