Bye Captivate hello Motorola ATRIX 4g

Sometimes I just wonder if these forums are not also populated with paid product bashers. Regardless of the type wether a Stock Market forum or Phone Forum, there is alot of money to be made from the basing of a product and getting people to go elsewhere.
I have to admit that this seems to be a norm on the 3 or 4 forums I visit al-biet that my viewing of these forums comes less often ( I really get tired of the 14 year olds that mommy and daddy bought them a expensive phone just to shut them up and let them redirect their hormonal imbalances toward hacking/moding and Bricking and BITCHING about their phone. then crying about the why the next real update bricked their phone.)
Frankly I love my Cappy (stock/non-rooted/non mod'd) I enjoy it on a daily basis.
When a clean update of Froyo comes out I will happily upgrade (I'm looking forward to the new features). I don't really need a ROM or Flash from Northern WhoGivesARipistan that makes my GPS 2 feet more accurate than the 10 ft I get now.

So after all that my question would be, What is the purpose of comming to a forum to tell everyone they want a differnet phone. My bet is if you go to that forum, there will be the same types of people bashing that product.

It would be great if this forum would install Bovine Scat Meters for these kinds of messages.

Just like to reply to your reply i am no 14 year old kid im properly older then you, if you are over your 50s mate i need a phone that is going to work not decide to do its own thing whenever it wants and as for nearly 600 bux it should make coffee aswell..

So go to the ATRIX Forum and tell it to them..!!! Cause I doubt many here really care.

Well I've found the Atrix's flaw. Web experience. If you get this phone your future will be miserable. Heres a video of it browsing and ATT's H, or 4g data connection with full bars. It's AWFUL!

At ~1:45 - 2:00 Notice the demonstrator continually scrolling down without response followed by the screen flying downward to the bottom. FAIL!!!!

I'm really glad you found a flaw with a phone you've never used.

"Full bars" represent signal strength. At an event like CES, carrier networks are going to be working pretty hard to deal with the sheer number of people there. You can have good signal but low bandwidth.

This was not a service issue or data speed issue. Watch the video. The demonstrator's inputs take litterally seconds to process. This is hardware lag not ping issues. And while I'm not personally interested in a new phone, I was making a point that no phone will be flawless, even if it
has 2.2, working gps and doesn't shut off
read my previous post also. If people wanna bash the Captivate and put some unreleased phone on a pedastool, realize they'll all have problems.

I contacted a few places and asked them about the phone, and I really hope they are wrong.

Best Buy - Release date unknown
Local "authorized dealer" -- 4G phones and service will not be released till June.
Local official store -- 4G phones and service will not be released till June.
AT&T Sales ((611)) -- 4G phone and service will not be released till June.

Yeah, that video is the ONLY one out of dozens that show a 'bad' experience with the web browser. I am sure there were earlier builds at CES along with finalized products.

EVERY other video shows a very smooth browsing experience.

I too had the Captivate at one point. Samsung will never get my business again.

Bye low res SAMOLED, hello qHD LCD.

Oh joy. Now we have all new cellphone models for people to make their arrogant "i'm switching, and I'm really important so I think everybody should know" posts about :rolleyes

I mean no longer is it switching to iPhone, now it's Atrix 4g! Cool!

Anyways, I will probably switch too, but not because the Captivate is bad, just because I'm a gadget slut and want the latest phones. Not sure if I'll switch to Atrix or Infuse, or heck maybe even a Verizon model, yet though.

Oh and yeah, the Captivate had some problems as all new hardware does, so I am a little worried about getting a new phone on the first day...should be ok with Infuse though since it's a glorified Captivate..less so with Atrix...

I love how you call people arrogant and make fun of them for assuming that others give a damn why they are switching phones and then, separated with "anyway", proceed to make that same post and assume people give a damn. Pretty much proves your point about how self-centered people are, and in fact illustrated it much more profoundly then any explicit written word. I found your post especially humorous since you preemptively bashed yourself...oh the irony. BUT, I do actually care about why people decide to switch phones and actually come here to find out why and how people do things, in regards to the captivate. Not trying to bash you...I guess thanking you because I found it most enjoyable lol! :p

You know...

Someone may be on to something with paid product bashers..

I sometimes wonder how many people out there really need a gps in their phone.

Yes, I do agree if its an advertised function it should work.

Yes, I do believe samsung owe's some updates for this phone..

On the flipside, I got mine today knowing the risk.

If you didn't research it.. thats your fault.

If you were an early adopter.. Well Guess what......

There is a long history of early adopters getting totally screwed.

So.. At the end of the day.. its not like anyone complaining can't really say they aren't partly responsible.

I really think that demonizing people over their desire to get the features they were promised and have been paying amortized costs for - by calling them paid product bashers - is more than a little over the top.

In fact - I'm way sure that it's the opposite of our motto:

Attack issues and not other users.

Anyone thinks someone is trolling, there's a report button to the left of the post in question. Until a mod says otherwise, everyone here is free to express their opinions, within context of the rules and without fear of personal attack.

Otherwise - let's drop that talk in interests of being able to agree to disagree on some on some these tangled issues, if that's what it takes.

Looking forward to lurking through the rest of a very interesting and respectful discussion.

Otherwise, I note with interest this forum has received multiple warning from myself and at least one other mod.

Infractions are next.

Please... When I got my phone, GPS issues were unknown/undiscovered. So now that's my fault?

For me its not about hating the captivate so much as loving the atrix, the atrix isn't just simply throwing a tegra 2 in a phone and calling it a day like some of the other phones at ces, its a huge jump towards the hardware experience I've always wanted, the only annoyance is its lcd screen. Hopefully moto getz on the amoled bandwagon soon or someone else copies the idea even better, since the atrix has def been getting the most press out of anything else at ces

I think the Atrix will be _fine_ browsing the web. If anything, the webkit based Android browser has been pretty consistent across phones (and is the same core codebase as used on iOS, Chrome, Safari).

I would suspect a mix of service and early build.

lol nice troll
While it may seem that way, read my other posts. I came across that video while looking through some other forums that i frequent and was excited to show viewers of this forum that NO PHONE is perfect. The Atrix, after doing some more research sounds pretty sick to me. Tegra dual core processor pumping out ~2GHZ theoretically, Tegra's announced personal Game store really makes me want it. But sadly my bank account will not allow a 500$ phone for at least another 6-12 months.

It's rather reasonable to expect that whatever was demonstrated at CES was pre-production software.

Also, network experiences there are anything but ideal.

FWIW - the Xoom tablet wasn't directly demonstrated with Honeycomb - it was running a video of how would look when shipped. When (I recall) Phandroid got under the hood, it was running that video while running Honeycomb itself, but we couldn't get more details from that report - what's to come will be apparent when deliveries happen.

Lets be real here. The Captivate has been out for about 7 months and many features dont work as advertised. I just got Rogers 2.2 update and things are very good now, but still a few bugs/odd behaviors.

I cut Samsung a bit of slack because they just started working with Android, but now that they are on to 2.2 and 2.3, no more excuses.

AT&T users are really getting screwed, and I blame AT&T 75% of that because of the bloat ware and locking out of features. Rogers launched the phone in October, and we got the update a few days ago. How can AT&T explain that?

And stuff at CES and other events is a smoke show. Many of the products are prototypes and are no where near ready for release, even if they look great then.

Steaky..

I am glad I am not the only one who is suspicious of at&t's role in this.

Not saying samsung isn't responsible..

But, at&t has a track record of messing with updates before android ever even got on their network..

If it has 2.2, working gps and doesn't shut off, it's a success.

My captivate has working GPS and has never shut off. Gps sucked after I did a few updates, but i went back to factory settings and I refuse to update it, works perfect. usually within 50 ft of where I am.

and the only interest i have in 2.2 is flash so i can watch movies at work. is there anything else that makes froyo worth it?

If the "Matrix" lolz had a better form factor, I would definately get one in a hearbeat. I'll wait for MWC, see what Samsung and HTC has to offer :)

Oh guys! almost forgot.. there was a post over at XDA about the shutting off being a hardware problem..

If your serial number falls into a certain range you might be able to get it replaced.
Um no... I had the same problem. Flashed to cognitive 3.02 and it doesnt do it anymore.
