Alright ladies, check it out. THIS PHONE IS NOT THAT BAD. So let's stop sobbing over how much it sucks...and really come on, I owned the Huawei Ascend not that long ago and that forum has got 30,000+ people in it. Let's face it that phone is a fluffy little pink bunny compared to this phone and those guys are still over there coming up with mods. They've got CM7 and everything on that piece of crap, plus I remember this really cool dude, DarkTremor who came up with a sweet ass script for Apps to SD that would move all your apps and they're data to a partition with just one link, so ultimately saving the most space. What I'm thinking is since it was all command line, we could bring it to work on this phone. Imagine if we could fully utilize our internal SD card to store our apps in full. I mean I'm sure we'd probably need a custom recovery, but that's something to look forward to. Just saying how's does anyone expect anything to happen with this phone if we all just have our heads up our butts and are constantly bickering about how much things suck. Does that make the Devs think you're going to Bree very appreciative when they do come out with a bangin Rom? I think not.

I love this phone, after owning a HTC Wildfire for a few weeks and replacing that POS with this one, this phone feels like the best phone in the world.

Imagine if we could fully utilize our internal SD card to store our apps in full.

There is no internal SD card. This phone has a 3.7GiB internal nand that is partitioned into 20 partitions. If you start counting at 0, then number 12 is the one that gets mounted as /data and number 14 gets mounted as the fake internal sd card. Number 12 is 904.0MiB and number 14 is 1.9GiB. The partitions are just a EBR off the normal MBR.

Now, assuming you really do need more that 904MiB for your /data partition, you can edit your partitions by making the 14th one smaller and giving that space to the 12th one. I say that theres no reason in the world you should have filled up those 904MiB in the first place. And I actually did the opposite. I took space away from /data and some of the other wasted space from other partitions and gave it all to that 14th partition and made my fake-internal sd card bigger.

My issue with the device is the 3G connectivity. My wife has an Optimus V and we can be in the same place both with VMUSA and she is using her data and I'm waiting for stuff to load.

I am also having issues sending/receiving SMS and MMS. Again, same location mine doesn't send and hers has.

If I am at home doing stuff over wifi then there is no issue.

This is my 3rd Elite and they have all had this same issue, although the first one was the worst.

you aren't the only owner of this device experiencing 3G data issues. this thing is a turd in that dept. im on my 3rd elite. none of them have resolved the iissue. virgin mobile called me today to "troubleshoot" the device for the 100th time. which has never helped. i told them no. im waiting on the fcc to resolve the problem. not virgin mobile. experiment on fixing your companies device on your dime and time. not mine. there's my enthusiasm...enthusiasm to get my money back or be sent a different model of device that does work. im highly enthusiastic.

That is my only issue too. Fortunately I am so happy being away from Verizon, I don't mind too much.
its really my only issue. but after three months the company just cant seem to get it resolved. i have troubleshot my device so many times with so many people i simply refuse to repeat the process again. everything about the elite works properly for me if it doesnt need a internet connection. if it needs a good connection, the device fails. even something as simple as Nasa App constantly gives error messages about no connection, can not locate remote server, etc. Opera mobile exhibits the errors, anything needing a connection constantly encounters this garbage. My bottom line is that no device can function properly if its dependent as these devices are on a reliable connection. this thing cant even give you the time of day without a connection. i do not consider 1 pm jan/feb 1980 the proper date and time.

I had these issues on my Optimus v as well as the elite. I think it was worse on my V than the elite. I just think it's something with the crappie tail end of the sprint network we get

that could be kw. but as the executive from sprint told me. its not up to you curtis to have to go through a ton of troubleshooting steps to figure out why your network or device isnt functioning properly. its ours. i appreciate her sentiment. i believe she will resolve this problem for me one way or the other. or else i would have thrown this phone away and already be on another carrier and device. im hanging in there giving sprint time to do what they gotta do. im being as fair as i can be. i havent asked them to replace anything for me...yet. i havent asked for a single month of bad service since activating the elite. i havent asked for a refund for my device...yet. talking with a sprint executive so high up the food chain it will make your nose bleed makes things resolve faster than talking with "ROGER" YOU CANT HEAR ME WELL BECAUSE IM SITTING ON A SIDEWALK WITH LOUD MOTOR SCOOTERS WHIZZING BY IN THE BACKGROUND...ATTEMPTING TO GIVE YOU CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! ALLLLLLL THE WAY FROM INDIA!! "JOHNSON" :D

seriously, the lady seemed a bit annoyed that after 500 call ins about data problems on the elite and endless troubleshooting that didnt work that these jokers couldnt find out why the elite, network or whatever just wasnt working well. she said she would ring me monday with a final resolution. as of today,my network is still iffy at best. so hopefully tomorrow i will be nearing the end of this thing. id like to have everything working well on my elite. but if not,ill take another device if they offer it. which she stated was an option for resolution.

Curtis, it sucks that you are having such a hard time. I personally doubt I would have hung in as long as you have. But I should specify that I don't think the 3G issue is with my Elite, but Sprints crappy service. I knew the service was bad. But for over $100 a month savings, combined with my minimal usage, I can deal with the bad 3G service.

My 3G at home is actually pretty good. Of course I don't need it at home since Wi-Fi is twice as fast - lol. When I'm out with my wife and her VM iPhone, the Elite consistently connects and browses faster. (This is kind of a bonus, since I can make even more anti-iPhone comments - hehe.)

I had sprint before coming to virgin Mobile and never had the issues with data that I've had with VM. I think sprint really gives us the a$$ end of the network or something is quite screwed up with vm's system

i never had the constant loss of signal on the optimus v. the very day i activated my elite it started. conection time outs,no connection errors, can not locate remote server errors,on and on. i can literally sit and watch it drop out and attempt to reconnect in my status bar as im using NASA images, play store, opera,on and on. if its not Tue elite solely,i think it is partially. part finicky device receiver and network issues here. the elite may get wonky if the signal to it isnt just right. either way i dont even care at this point. i just wanted my money back or another device totally.

Your plight has given me strength to face tech support Curtis.

I just got off the phone with tech support because I'd not received a text in over 3 days (I knew for a fact my wife had sent me at least a dozen in that time). They had to do something with my account and as soon as she said, "Okay lets test something." I started getting the texts from my wife rapid fire.

We also did a full reset of the device because of my constant 104 and 67 errors. Hopefully those stop now. I am not going to hold my breath over that though.

She did try to send me a 4th replacement handset, which I declined because I didn't want to lose my $25 plan. I told her if I had to replace the device I would be leaving for T-Mobile.

Getting ready to reroot now.

FWIW, when I bought my Elite I was told that VM users enjoy a lower priority of service than Boost users do on the Sprint network. Supposedly, it's purposely set up that way.

im getting error code 104 now. never had it before. just occured twice back to back. 3g dropped out then the error code box i cant wait until morning to call sprint back. this is not what i paid for when i bought this phone and it isnt what i paid for as my service plan. this is crazy. i can see network issues that aren't outside the norm, but thus isnt normal network issues and it sure isn't proper device operation.

heres the definition of error code 104. : 104 Error Code 104 System error. Sign in failed.
Please wait a moment and try again. If this problem
persists, you may need to contact Sprint. Unknown
challenge. Sprint network expects CHAP challenge
protocol.

looks like to me the device isn't communicating properly with the network. figured as much.. looks like when our device sends a request for data, its not identifying itself, your account or something similar and then getting denied. atleast with error 104. who knows with the other data issues. i found this on a sprint user forum. odd thing is,elite users on sprint side aren't that i can find getting the error 104. their all talking about error 67.

well i got in touch with ms eichenberger at sprint and explained that this 104 error message is occuring now on my end and i also mentioned that other users i knew were having it also. she put in an order for the one v for me and credited two of my three months service. im satisfied with the resolution. she is also forwarding the error 104 info to network division to hash out.

If I was already on the $35 month plan I'd try and follow suit. I've been looking at the One V, really like the ICS out of the box. But I hate that VMU is advertising it as, "The newest version of Android."

Unless they sort this 104 error I am saving my pennies for a T-Mobile device. I hate leaving VMU, I've been with them since Feb 2010 and on the Beyond Talk plan since it was introduced. But if your solution to fixing a busted device is to make me pay more a month, that isn't a solution.

well i had already jumped to the $45 plan on my own just before purchasing the elite so the resolution suits my needs. ive been with virgin since 2005/06? somewhere around that time,so i wanted to give them tge benefit of making things right. my service overall since moving to virgin has been pretty good for the majority of the years ive been a customer. i owed them a shot. i feel like they delivered.

never changed my prl on the elite. tried it on the v and never noticed a change. so wrote it off as not applicable to my area. the 104 errors i experienced happened on the vm prl whatever that is.

Well my Elite has had a bad day today. I was in Richmond, Va today (Pretty sure they have cell service :D) and I took my Elite out of the case and it was very hot to touch on back. It showed absolutely no signal but my wife's OV showed a full signal. A reboot seemed to help for a bit but have had the issue on and off today even since returning home. Once or twice it showed a full signal and showed 3g indicator but no data, calls or text. Again a reboot fixed it. I've probobly rebooted close to a dozen times today... Guess I'll see how it acts tommorrow and call VM if it still acting up, so I can get the normal crappy troubleshooting.
