Help Call/Media Problem

Hello,
I have had my latest Ally since about early February. I say latest because i have had 3 of them since my original that i got in September 2010. This is the second replacement phone and i am now encountering some problems. The media volume does not work without the use of headphones and when making a call, i cannot hear the person that i am talking to or even hear the dial tone. This has just recently happened on Monday. Another problem is that when i do make/recieve a call, the screen doesn't fade away and turn black. Instead, it either stays there and my cheek will hit a button or it will lock up completly and i'll have to reinsert the battery. My question is how could i troubleshoot my phone before going to Verizon and if i do go to Verizon, will i be able to get a new version of this phone or a different phone all together? Thanks for your help.

Its a hardware problem it sounds like. The jack is messed up. it HATES headphones. known problem. it acts like headphones are still connected. Same with proximity sensor. unless you have a screen protector and it covers the spot. As for getting a different phone you cant. it used to be 3 returns of a defective device you got to pick out a new one. but they changed that a long time ago. Youre stuck with the ally. Best bet is to get a warranty replacement. Sorry.

Try plugging in and unplugging headphones until the phone realizes you dont have headphones attached any more?

Ok. Tried that too but that didnt work. I took out and reinserted the battery and that seemed to solve the call and media problem. However, the proximity sensor is still messed up and since i havent put a screen protector over it, i dont know what could be causing it to malfunction.
