Call quality on other end.

My problem is when im talking with the bluetooth enabled, everyone says that i sound really low, and can barely hear me. Also the sound i hear is low as well. I wonder if there is a setting that i can change to fix this?

I use my BT most of the time (Plantronics) and find the call quality to be great, no one has said otherwise on the other end either. When I hold/use the phone some say it echos a bit, but not all the time. I think that is one of the scheduled fixes for 12/11 though.

I have a plantronics as well, i can't remember the model number. Its a cheaper one that i got at walmart for 30 last year. I like the way it sticks down inside my ear just alittle, its the only bluetooth that i can really hear good. I have poor hearing due to years of loud music in my cars:D

Hi Bchawks,
What did you find out when you went to Verizon? I am having the same problem as you on my Droid. Everybody is tellling me I sound extremely muffled. I will be going in this week and hope they have a fix.

I had the same problem. Everyone was complaining that I was muffled and they could hardly hear me or understand me. I carried it to verizon and they gave me a code to update it. It was a code they use to do the initial load when you buy it. They said it is updating it with the towers.

Either way it worked!:D

They said I should do this once a month.

I have the code and will post it later, but is anyone else familiar with this?

Sounds like they told you to update the tower list with *228. All that could possibly do is give you better reception if there is a closer tower that was just added which may have helped with your problem, but it wouldn't have updated any of the phone software.

Hmm, I dont know why people take their droid back to the store for another.. the echo problem clearly is a software issue if turning on the speaker phone fixes it.. why not just wait until the update?

I will bet my coffee cake that the problem is that the software is enabling the speaker phone and the mic at the same time.

People, just do hack in post #33 and that will take care of the problem. I did it a few days ago and the difference in sound is significant...much more precise and clear. It could not be any easier.

All calls I made with my DROID had echo on the other end. I found that it didn't happen when using my bluetooth or a wired earbud/microphone plugged into the phone for calls.

Two days ago, my droid phone stopped working (the phone radio). It would receive calls, but would not place calls. The dial (when pressing the send or selecting call from a contact) would go to a blank screen. It got so bad, that my droid was powered on but just a blank screen with the green led.

I did a hard reset and the echo is now gone.

However.....

I have read in this post and others that the echo comes back.
I have also read that VZ has replaced on the claim of a bad microphone (that makes a big assumption that VZ really had a clue what they were doing, which they didn't).

So, software update on 12/11 (if it really happens). Then we are all out of the 30day period and screwed.

How do we proceed? Go in so the problem is noted on record or wait and be screwed. Hmmmmm....

If a reset, or flicking on/off the speaker phone fixes the problem its not a problem with the phone, but a problem with the firmware. It seems VZW is already aware of the issue and an update is coming soon. I've had the echo on my phone too but havent had a problem after toggling the speaker phone. The feedback is from the phone firmware activating the dual micrphone noise reduction feature incorrectly.

Relax, deal with the early adopters pangs and all will be OK after the update.

I would have to argue that its not the network. toggling the speaker phone does nothing to fix network congestion, but it does resolve the echo problem :)

If you notice when your phone has the echo problem your voice will seem slightly louder, and noises such as your handling the phone will sound amplified. Its the dual mic control going nuts.

Well I have had this same "problem" now and then with every cell phone I have ever owned over the last decade. I've been told by tech's it's a problem with the network.

We could be talking about the same condition but with different causes... plus how do you account for the toggling of the speaker as a fix if its a network problem?

Because the problem could be either and not enough data has been shown to support it to one isolated cause. I don't have the problem with the phone and other's I know don't either. I will concede it is possible to have a defective unit or some possible software glitch, but -sometimes- the echo problem is caused by the network and not the phone.

Agreed.
