Help call settings error

Sooper Noob! here so please bear with me...

I've been using my Optimus V for about 2 weeks and since it's my first android, I'm still kinda learning the ropes. I noticed today that I'm not getting any audible call waiting notifications so I went in to Settings-->Call Settings and I'm only getting options for "Other Call Settings". From poking around the internet, I know I should be getting a whole lot more there such as Voice Mail, call forwarding etc.

Since I don't muck around with settings I have no idea what I might have done (if anything) to cause this. Do you gentle readers have any ideas of how to resolve this?

Cheers!

There is no call waiting on the beyond talk plans. Sorry :(
Or call forwarding for that matter.

LOL well there's my problem! Is this an Android specific thing because I had call waiting on my recently departed VM flip phone. Also, are there any apps for this or is this an "it is what it is" situation?

Thanks for your help!

I thought there was when I signed up (my wife too), but looking at the beyond talk plans it does not mention call waiting/forwarding. I know Android can do it, but I think it is a carrier limitation. Was your previous plan beyond talk as well? or something different?

I had the $25/mo beyond talk thing which I don't even believe is an option anymore. There was definitely call waiting and text notification while I was on calls. Kinda disappointing to find thats not available on this version of the plan but for the price I can't really complain :D

I might be mistaken, but I haven't been able to figure it out on either of the phones my wife and I use. I also don't see it listed under the plan details. I have been used to having it on every phone I have owned, I kind of took it for granted. Maybe someone will correct me, but as far as I know they don't have it.

I don't know about call waiting or forwarding, but I do get text notifications.
I also use the auto answer app.

When you’re on a call, Call Waiting alerts you of incoming calls
by sounding a beep instead of a ring. Your device’s screen
informs you that another call is coming in and displays the
caller’s phone number (if it is available).

To respond to an incoming call while you’re on a call:

> Before accepting the incoming call, tap one of the following
   onscreen options:

   - Answer to answer the new call. The first caller is placed
     on hold.
   - Decline to send the call to your voicemail box.

To switch back to the first caller:

> From the In-Call options screen, tap Swap calls.

TIP: For those calls where you don’t want to be interrupted, you can temporarily
disable Call Waiting by pressing [*][7][0] before placing your call. Call
Waiting is automatically reactivated once you end the call.

I just checked my OV manual and don't see that in there. My guide only has 143 pages as well. How old is your phone? Mine is only a couple months old (still 2.2.1 though). Maybe they took that option out?

Every time I have received a call during a call, it beeps and I answer it and it hangs up on the original call immediately. I do get text notifications during calls as well. This is really intriguing me now...

I think his version came from off of LG's site. It's bigger and more comprehensive. I had one on my laptop before I had to sell it.

The manual that came with the phone is the OV Basic Guide. The OV User Guide can be found at:

http://www.virginmobileusa.com/resources/phones/prepaid/manual/lgoptimusv.pdf (version 1.0)

http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/pdf/VM670_UM_ENG.pdf (version1.2)

There's also an online VM tutorial on how to use Call Waiting at:

Virgin:Call waiting

Got my OV back in March, and it's version 2.2.1.

I see it in the online manual from the LG site. In the one that came with the phone (also called LG Optimus V Basics Guide) it isn't included. I see the same issue with the manual for the Triumph and the one from the Motorola site. hmmmm... The options it tells me to use for the Triumph are not actually on the phone. I will have to see if the same is true for the OV or not.

That second link you provided, is it from the official Virgin Mobile USA site? It has a web address from http://scare.deviceanywhere.com.

EDIT: I sent an email to VM, hopefully they will clear it up.

I was rather surprised that call waiting wasn't included but now that it looks like it is, I'm back to trying to figure out why I can't access the entire menu of call settings and the call waiting settings contained therein.

Out of curiosity, what do you see when you hit Menu->Settings->Call Settings?

I'm using the BACKside_12072011 ROM so I don't know if the settings would be the same as the stock. Under my Call Settings, there's an option called Vibrate Call Waiting--which vibrate on call waiting if checked, and that is the only applicable setting.

I will do some testing on the OV tonight. There really isn't a reason why CM7 would take that out if it was there, are the options there on stock?

I'm stock and I have:

Excuse Messages
Plus Code Dialing
TTY Mode
DTMF Tones

My call waiting works. It beeps when a call comes in and shows me who it is.

But can you go back to the previous call? I can do what you were saying, but it always hangs up on the original call. I might just be doing it wrong.

So my wife got home and I tested it.....
I was wrong.

Both our phones run CM7, and there is a little circle with arrows (like the sync symbol) in the top left. If you are on the phone and another call comes in you answer it like normal. The part that kept messing me up was I was used to hanging up to get to the original call. Instead you don't hang up, you hit the circle with arrows and switch to the original call. I am sure the process is similar on 2.2

I am so glad you guys corrected me, I don't need that feature often, but I was under the impression that these plans didn't have it.

For anyone possibly stumbling onto this thread (as I just did): call waiting works perfectly well and as expected on stock LG OVs. When a new call comes in while another is in progress, one hears a beep. The display will show a
