Help Camera Force Always Closes

Q_Bert_Ds

Newbie
About 95% of the time when I try to go into the camera it displays this error:

Sorry. the application Camera(process com.android.camera) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. [Force Close]

I have already tried clearing the camera data and cache, deleting my recent apps, force closing everything, restarting the phone, pulling the battery for 30 seconds, and trying different camera apps.

I also receive this error any time I try to use anything that uses the camera (i.e. Barcode scanners, Swype, things like that.)

Can anyone help me with this? Besides factory resetting?

Are you on the stock ROM? rooted? (I am assuming yes, and no respectively, but worth asking just in case).

Put a different ROM on it? lol, I know you weren't asking for that either. I would suggest a factory reset, but you didn't want to hear that either.

It sounds like an issue with either your camera app (system app that you can't download and install from the market) or with the hardware. Have you tried something like the MIUI camera (I think you have to side load it, can't get it from the market)? Doing that could rule out whether it might be a software issue or not.

Yes I am rooted, but I am not running a custom rom. I'd rather not load a custom rom. Well it's working now all of the sudden, but I'm sure it will go out again, when it does I will try the MIUI camera. Any other ideas while I'm waiting?

ya know.. these custom roms exist becuase they fix a lot of things that the (half arsed) stock rom doesnt do.

you should consider TRYING miui or CM7 out for a day or too in the near future before saying you have no desire to load a custom rom.

When I received my first Triumph from VM a couple of weeks ago, when switching to the front camera the Camera app would crash all of the time, in exactly the way you describe. The rear camera was fine, but the front camera would not work at all.

I emailed vmusocialcare@sprint.com and they sent me a new one out, and I returned the original back to VM using the prepaid label that came with the replacement. I had (and still have) zero issues with the replacement, with the camera or anything else.
