All of the people I know that have Droids are telling me their camera is messing up with the latest software. I know mine is.

Unless I'm wrong don't other apps just utilize the standard camera and bring the pics into that app. So if the camera doesn't come up then that app is useless, right?
Mine had been doing the not saving pictures thing for a few months now. It will look like it saved the pic when you take it (little thumbnail on the lower left is there), but when you click on the thumbnail or go into the gallery, it's just the gray icon and no pic. When this happens, if I go into settings and unmount/remount the sd card, that fixes it. Thought it was a problem with my card, but I replaced it, and still doing the same thing. I think this phone is starting to show its age.
You could try clearing data for the camera app in settings... applications... all... camera.
What's a normal amount of data? And what exactly is the data (how do I know it's okay to clear it)??
Hmm. Ok thanks. My friend's phone is having issues with the camera. As soon as he opened the camera and an image appears on the screen, that image freezes on the screen, and he can't take a picture at all. But it works fine if the phone is plugged in.
I had him look at the data storage, and it was 28kb. Is that a lot? My phone shows only 4kb.
"Plugged in", meaning what? (AC or compute?)
Right after a picture is taken, it saves it to the sdcard.
If you're having issues with your sdcard (full, corrupt, failing), I could see where it would hang after taking a picture.
I'd remove the card, plug it into a computer with a usb adapter and scan it for errors.
