Help Camera users - how to make photos less grainy?

I'm really a photographer so the camera on this phone REALLY did it for me, for those times that I don't have my cam or want to get a decent shot in general without a point and shoot. I uploaded a few of the pics I took already and it will definitely suffice for me!

So how do you have your camera set on the evo to get that great shot?

I talked to my brother who is a photographer and here's what he told me:

ISO - set to highest (1250) when there is low light and to 400 when good lighting
FLICKER - set to 60Hz - take off auto
WHITE BALANCE - take off auto and use one of the custom settings (cloudy, incandescent, etc)
RESOLUTION: 8MB
WIDESCREEN: ON
QUALITY: High

Still get grainy pics in low light with ISO set to 1250 - but as others have stated - this IS just a camera on a phone - it's not a professional camera by any means.

But I sure notice a huge difference when light is low using the highest ISO and when there is plenty of light using 200-400 ISO.

Hope this helps
Jerry

You may not realize it but the light indoors is much lower than outdoors in these photos. The phone automatically adjusted exposure and ISO for the lower light and that can make things blurry or grainy. It's the main reason I have two flashes (want more) for my regular camera. The more light available, the faster you can set exposure and the lower you can set ISO or sensitivity.

Light is the key to good photos. You can buy expensive lenses that can still shoot short exposure in lower light but they are large, pricey, and nowhere near small enough to use on a mobile device.

tl;dr version: cell phones can't support the kind of glass you need to take fast, crisp shots in anything less than bright light.

Well...ISO should be switched to whatever the sitiation calls for. Not just a blanket 1250 for low light.

I can typically get away with 800. What I really hope for is HTC to give us sense 2.0 and the camera and camcorder pack from the z and the maxtouch 4G. Using ported software from both and the quality is much better

Well yeah - I guess I didn't make that clear - the 1250 was for very low light - but I meant you want a higher ISO for low light situations and a lower ISO for highly lit situations.

Hey are there any good camera addon apps available?? I found one that allowed you to make panoramic shots, multishots, etc - but can't remember what it's called (don't know if I uninstalled it?)

vignette and camera360 are some of the most popular ones.

i play with retro and a few others... go to market.android.com and search camera...there are more and more of them popping up each day
