Can Android 2.1 work for the Eris

So if a guy gets an OTA update to 2.1 and it boogers up his phone, why doesn't he just go to his local VZW store and have them fix it instead of asking for help on a forum?
 
We have already discussed this, more then likely cause vzw tech service is not so great. They actually refer people here...lol

fwiw i do not believe he got it ota, i believe he is a tester and he was funning us....
 
If he is just messing with us I see pitchforks and torches in his future :)

Talked to my brother this morning who works at a store in Upstate NY and he said there has been a STEADY flow of people coming in looking for 2.1.... and they don't have it to give. Neither he, nor anyone at the location has heard a word about any release of 2.1 to the eris or the droid as of today. They were told it would be coming, the same as we were all told but even they have no idea when it will arrive, and have not received any training etc. for the rollout of the upgrade.

I doubt that Verizon has even set a date yet. 2.1 hasn't been in testing through their people all that long.
 
Hey first post :] (just got on android forums to post this)

I called HTC, and they said that last night a few of the erises that they had had gotten a 2.1 update, and he directed me to verizon to get it for my own eris. No details on whether or not sense is in that update, but it definitely seems to be happening.:)
 
So i called verizon and the lady that i spoke to said that the 2.1 update should be coming "very soon", and that she had caught wind of eris updates. hope that helps.
 
I sent an email support request to HTC... and this is the response I got.

At this time the update to 2.1 does not appear to be available. As soon as the update is ready it will be delivered as an OTA(over the air) update. Currently the only update available for the Eriscan be found here: Personal Communications Devices

i went to the verizon wireless store today and the salesman told me there is absolutely no truth to 2.1 being pushed out.....sorry guys
 
So My Eris locks up often, such as the lock screen won't slide to let me unlock my phone. I would assume it is a problem with the software 1.5 communicating with the touch screen. My hopes are that the update will "fix" this problem. Also is there currently a good way to delete the thousands of text messages I have on my phone still (where they have never been deleted). everytime I try to delete many at a time (such as 3 or 4 threads) it takes forever or the phone tells me the program "messages" or something isn't responding and gives me the option to wait or cancel the deletions, and then after it does that a couple of times it simply force closes on me, never deleting the messages. I found the only way to delete messages is to delete 1 or 2 threads at a time, and that will take forever.. Anyone have and suggestions? or should I just hold off till the update and hope I can delete them all in a convienient fashion then?

This is pretty off topic for this thread, but try a free app in the market called "delete old messages". It will delete any sms past whatever age/date you choose.

You know...besides the video :rolleyes:.

Either way, even if it's just a few testers that have got it, it's been said multiple hundreds of times, with large evidence, that the verizon employees are completely kept in the dark about all of these issues and that asking one of them is like (or worse) than asking someone on this board.
 
Just wanted to say that the video that one dude posted is a fake. He did not get an OTA update because accidents over OTA don't happen especially not to one person plus if you notice, the lights are not lit up on the send and end buttons which prove that it is the tester release that he some how got and wanted to show off like a fruit!

If you read the posts then you would know that he is in fact a tester and the video is 100% legit.
 
Actually, there was an error in the tester OTA. There happened to be a few customer devices listed in the test database that shouldn't have been there. Big time mistake...

They guy with the problem had an OTA of the test load. It wasn't an official update.

Have you had any issues with 2.1?
