i unrooted using gingerbreak but when it booted it still had aosp mod on it. i checked and it was unrooted. can i factory reset from settings menu? by the way it is an lg optimus v.

Use the nandroid backup you made when you first installed the custom recovery do not use the factory reset in the phones options.

I had rooted my 1st "V" but somehow lost root after try to flash a recovery.Root checker,ROMTools, both said I didn't have root,so I did a factory reset from the phones memory. When I now turn power on I get the LG logo and that's it.All it's good for now is spare parts. So you decide, paper weight or functioning phone

NO! i have done this to two phones! i was a noob not knowing what i was doing! as soon as you root your phone, do not factory reset! a custom recovery does not have to be installed in order to brick. if you want to reset, you have to do it from the recovery menu. i flashed clockworkmod. then reset.
