Can I install a leak without root

I got mine from android police. It seems to be fine and all went well on install

Right on... let us know how it feels after you drive it for a bit.

If you use secondary launchers -- Apex and Nova are sweet! Here's mine using Apex (I didn't have Minimal Text set up correctly for the time -- shows OneForty instead of OneFortySix ... fixed atm)

Have fun!

mach - and anyone else - where are you guys gettinjg your leaked ICS from ?? And how do you know you can trust the code now on your phone?
It would be easy to post a leak after tweaking it to do anything you want it to on someones phone. Know what I mean?

That being said i'm on my 2nd rezound due to them having data and email issues, verizon is no help and if there's a very trusted source i might like to give it a try if it will possibly fix some of my BS issues...

I got mine from the link over at XDA-developers. Pretty safe there, if something was up it would get outed and shunned lickety split.

Ok, I may be slow, stupid or just not observant, but I just discovered that you can drag and drop apps to create folders. Is this new to ICS or has it been part of GB too?

This is a really big deal for me and how I organize things.

Thanks for letting me know this, before even posting here I started the download from their site.
The reason I became concerned enough to ask was because those guys on that site sounds pretty hardcore about phones and doing their own thing. Made me think of Anonymous.

What version are you guys installing? On the net I'm seeing verions 4. something and also 3. something, all within the last month or two.

Also, I've been on the line a lot with Verizon to make this phone work like its supposed to and I asked when the ICS update was going to be available since there's a chance it might solve some of my problems and the tech support persons response: "THAT'S something we can make happen too if we have to"

I have to assume she meant the update is available and Verizon is holding onto it.

I also installed the 3.14.605.10 leak from XDA. Thank you to everyone for even discussing it. I was able to do everything right through File Manager right on my phone once I was locked on 4G. It worked perfectly the fist time (I installed twice without even looking at ICS the first time) and doing it through File Manager on the phone prevented the .zip.zip problem (stupid Windows!) Things are running pretty well on this build, and I'm very happy with it. Thanks again to all.

In case nobody mentioned it, a word of advice: When you are done installing the leak, rename the original .zip to something silly, like .lk1 or .ok1... something that indicates that you have installed that leak already. Keep track of which extension goes with whatever version. These can be used as raw backups, and by leaving them in your we root folder you can find them easily for reinstalling, or as a beacon to remember where to put the next leak. But most importantly, RENAME THE FILE OR MOVE IT. If you leave it there in its correct filename format, you run the risk of your phone getting wiped just because some smart@

By the way, here's the link I used. For those of you new to this, just delete everything in the filename except "PH98IMG.zip" and place the file in the root of your external SD card /sdcard2 . Then shut off your phone, hold down the VOLUME DOWN button, and hit POWER. HBOOT will start and see that zip file, and begin installing it. When it asks you to if you want to do so, hit choose YES and let it sit there and do its thing. When it's done, and it starts up, DON'T PLAY WIYH IT YET... SHUT IT DOWN AND DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.

This will wipe all of your contents from the phone (not the SD card) so make sure you have everything you want to keep backed up.

So no need to root, but does the phone need to be unlocked?

Also, what version of Sense does this leak include? Thanks.

No no and 3.6. Leak runs great just do it. Be patient, it takes a while seems like it stalls but everything went perfectly smooth.

I'm on my second or third week on the leak. It was super easy to install, I was intimidated because I'm not so techno savvy but it was a cinch. Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can. It's been perfect so far for me and I really haven't seen any bugs or glitches. Runs better than ever and I dig the smaller weather clock widget. Also the transition between 4g, 3g and Wi-Fi has been improved greatly imo. I can't offer up a reason Not to install the leak. Verizon obviously dragging their feet on this and I'm frustrated but since they aren't pushing it, like we all anticipated months ago, may as well upgrade yourself and enjoy the enhanced performance now.

Btw, I just did a Google search for rezound ics leak and after a couple of tries managed to get the full file. The android police one only downloaded half for some reason.

Got the download this morning. Now all I need to do is convince my wife (her phone) it's the right thing to do. Lol.

One last question; how did you backup before updating?

No good way to backup if you arent rooted. best you can do is make sure the internal sd card or whatever is called is copied to a pc because that will get wiped I believe. the physical sd card will be fine.
While I might have said do it, if it's your wifes phone why? If she's complaining its slow, or if she WANTS ics then great good for her, if you have to convince her just leave well enough alone.
messing with a woman's phone is not typically a fight you wanna start. Might as well go swat at a wasp next or poke some bears. Just some friendly advice.

I just installed the leak and I can't be any happier right now. Makes the phone a lot more responsive. I can even type faster without many screw ups.

downloaded it , renamed it .. but phone does not see it in hboot . what i am doing wrong :\

Make sure you did not rename it "PH98IMG.zip.zip". That may sound stupid, but if you used Windows, it is a distinct possibility.

Also, make sure it is in the correct location. It should be in "the root of your external SD card." It should not be in /root, or in the built-in flash memory. Using File Explorer, it should look something like this:

Finally, this will not work if you have S-OFF or root. It just won't.

Remember, if it works, REINSTALL IT. You must do this twice. Once it boots up for real and starts showing you the Setup process, shut down and start all over. Just do it. Don't ask. :D

When I installed it, it said "no image or incorrect image". I just let it do its thing and it worked fine despite he warnings.

Lol. The conversation didn't go too well. She threw in comments like "leave my phone alone", and then there was an "or else", she even mentioned Lorena Bobbit. Or well, I guess she'll suffer with Gingerbread.
