Root Can I just keep my phone stock?

First let me say that I found the "newbie" guide to be useless because while it's detailed, it's hard to know what's going on. I'm sure it's great...if you actually aren't a newbie. :p
Ok, so I want to gain root access but I DON'T want a rom. I only want ad blocking and to change that hideous boot animation/sound. So based on the "newbie" guide, what steps should I follow or completely ignore to gain permanent root access? I can follow the steps, I just need to know what steps apply to having a rooted evo v 4g that's stock.
Thanks ;)

The newb guide has a link to the Stock ROM that's rooted. Install the Odexed stock Rom in the guide and you're good to go.

Yes, but do I HAVE to install it. I do not want to install any roms Like I said, I only want root access. No Roms. I'm fine with having sense and VM's crap (only like 2 apps anyway)

No i didnt install a custom rom i just backed up the stock rom then flashed over the SUpatch and i was rooted with stock rom that was installed. but now im going to install the Jmz shooter rom cuz bloat ware is annoying lol.

Follow the newbie guide but flash the SU patch instead of a custom rom and then you will be rooted stock.

Great, so what steps did you use then?

in his defense the newbie guide does leave a few things rather unclarified, that the average joe would be slightly befuddled with.

I am always open for feedback. It is not set in stone. I've done small tweaks based on Evo V users feedback already that the Evo 3D version does not have. Edit: For example, I just changed around the download links to have the SU Patch, stock ROM + SU, and the recovery in the first section to draw more attention to it.

If you guys have suggestions on how to clarify it, I would like to hear it. My goal was to explain what to do, how to do it, and why we're doing it so users understood what they are doing. If it falls short of that, I want to improve it.

If you could give me your feedback in the newbie thread, here, or in PMs (whichever suits you), I would greatly appreciate it.
