Help Can I turn off 4G?

Does the Bionic have an option to turn off 4G entirely and only look for WiFi?

When I'm at home or work I have WiFi available, and I'd like to conserve data and battery by turning off just the 4G.

If it does, is it easy to do? Can you have a different setting for different profiles?

I would imagine you can. I know on my droid X you have the option to turn off the data, so I would imagine you can do the same with the bionic.
 
I know that my wife's thunderbolt has settings to switch on 4g, 3g, or wifi only. I would be really surprised if the Bionic can't do the same.

Can you turn 4G off on the fly and reactivate as needed, or requires a reboot like the other 4G phones? Be nice to use 3G as the main active radio and use 4G as needed, for battery reasons (without a reboot).

So you can use 3G 95% of the time and only turn on 4G if you need it? If so, cool. So that might be a reason why Moto had their own chip made...

Unless downloading big files or streaming HD Flash video, I see no point in 4G, if drains the battery a lot more.
 
I am going to play around with it on 4g for a couple of days and see how bad the battery is. then decide if turning 4g off is worth it.
 
I'm sure there's a toggle widget you can DL from the market. Also, go got to Menu > Settings > Wireless Networks > System Select

It's nothing new. Charge and Tbolt can turn on/off 4G on the fly. Only Revolution requires rebooting for that.

I am being poorer than usual in communicating. My understanding is the results are problematic unless you do reboot (this is why a lot of people have more than usual connection issues with 3G/4G). Only a full reboot actually fixes the issue. Per an LG rep, this is why the Rev needs a reboot (to avoid tech calls for connectivity issues).

The Tbolt got close to fixing with a firmware update.

Anandtech has some info on why the issues exists and why the second generation of chips is supposed to help fix the problems (along with a more stable network).
