Root Can not get wireless tethering working!

Question - did you turn wifi on on the phone? You need to leave wifi off, and 3g on. Is that what you did?

wow I have been kicking myself since yesterday for not being able to figure this out!!!!! Apparently this was my issue! I had wifi on when trying to tether. I turned wifi off on my phone and enabled 3g and boom i was browsing! The connection was pretty fast too!!!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP ON THIS! I REALLY DO APPRECIATE THE KINDNESS!!!

Haha, it's always the simple stuff, isn't it? Don't worry, we all have that happen from time to time. Now, go enjoy free wifi tethering :).

Merry Christmas :). Don't feel stupid, that sort of thing happens to everybody from time to time. In case you were wondering, you're basically using the phone as a "bridge" of sorts in that you're using the wifi radio to connect your devices to your phone, then the 3g radio from the phone to the internet. Wifi tether takes care of the wifi part, but is configured to go out either 3g or 4g. If you turn on the wifi radio, it turns off the 3g/4g radios, so you cut off its connection to the internet. That's why it didn't work. Now you know what to tell somebody if they ever have the same symptoms :).

i rooted today and im on the stock rom and a netarchy kernel. I can not for the live evo do a wireless tether. I see my evo in my connection center on my laptop and when i connect to it, it says it's connected but I have a yellow exclamation mark next to the wireless bars on my pc and I dont have connection (even th?ough my comp says im connected) I tried doing what the steps in the root for dummies but that did not work either. any ideas

I also rooted today using z4root. It seemed to work fine. I then downloaded Wireless Tether from the market. Even tho my iPad says I'm using the android wifi....I can't connect to the Internet. Does anyone know why?

Also, what is the kernel? How do you find what rom and kernel you're using?

Did you download wifi tether from the market?? It's well known that connectivity issues can arise from using that version. Go here and download number 11, and it should work. If not, try other version numbers.....One will work for you for sure. Hope this helps!

Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code

there's your answer. also make sure you turn off wifi on your phone and turn on 3g.

Are you sure you're fully rooted? Z4Root does not unlock nand (s-off). It performs a "soft root".

You don't need full root to use root only apps. I don't know what all z4root, does though. To make sure you at least have soft root, open a terminal emulator and type "su" without quotes, then hit enter. If the prompt changes to #, then you have root. If z4root doesn't install superuser, you'll need to install it from the market.

I hate to bump this thread, but I'm having the same exact issue. I've gone through all the files in the link I continue to get the yellow triangle. I rooted with unrevoked3. I only wish my issue was as easy as just wifi being on.

I've gone through that guide. I've been trying the links for the android wireless tethering. I also tried barnacle from the market. I've made a little progress. i can now get the laptop and phone connected, but still no internet.

I finally got this working on my work laptop. After a ton of research I finally figured out one of my issues. I have two of my home laptops set to static IPs so I can access them remotely without issue. So i have portforwarding set up on those two lappy's. I think this is a problem for the wireless tethering app because it tries to assign it's own IP. That's a complete and total guess though. After I figured this out I tried my netbook which does not have a static IP and although I got good connection still no internet. The netbook uses Windows 7. All these attempts were from lappy's on my home network. When I got to work I tried my work lappy which uses XP and everything connected up with no problems, including internet access. I'll take it home with me tonight and give it a try and home as well to see what happens. Just an FYI....
