Help can the Vibrant make calls using wifi?

I saw the mytouch 4g has this ability. Can we do it somehow? I'm in a place nearly half of the day 3 days a week that does not have tmobile coverage.
TIA!

and if you don't mind paying 2c/min, and not use Tmob minutes, you can use Truphone or Nimbuzz (I've found both are good quality but Truphone uses very little juice in the background, while Nimbuzz does drain the battery. You used to get a free inbound number with Truphone, but that's over, and it costs a few bucks a month. Nimbuzz can connect with Sipgate, which still gives free inbound numbers.

Have you rooted your phone yet? Been a while since ive seen you in here.

Hey there! I know I've been MIA. I tried the one click root and it didn't work! Nothing happened! I didn't try anything else. I just switched from a pc to a mac and I don't know the operating system. I'm afraid if I had to recover it for any reason I'd be lost. I actually decided to (shocker) trade out the phone for something else. I am trying to get Tmobile to give me a Mytouch 4g in exchange for the vibrant. I just can't take it any more. Tmobile LOST my history of multiple exchanges though! And I have to start all over. I'm on my THIRD replacement and they say their system only shows one. So here we go...

Well, when you use the one click thing to root, nothing IS going to happen. All rooting does if gives you permission to access your root files and get apps from the market that requires a rooted phone. From there you can do a lot of other things, like install a new OS ROM , flash modems, themes, boot anims, etc.

That would fix your problems your having with 2.1

Good luck with teh MT4G. Also ask them when the Vibrant PLus is coming to their stores. Those will have 2.2 and a FFC ...and that pisses me off.

It's been a while but I thought I remember it saying after I clicked RUN something would come up on the phone or on my computer. Nothing happened though. Have you really had enough success with the custom ROMS you would recommend doing this over going to a different phone?

when you do the one click
make sure you set your phone usb in development mode and mount your drive

You can look in the rooted section to see what others think about custom ROMs. I think it is a vast improvement. One ROM, Axura when you install it, your phone will be rooted already. Has the root built in. It also deletes all the bloatware automatically.
Shouldnt be too long and we will have Gingerbread custom ROM's.

New update has wifi calling as on option now, it's a new app icon that comes with the froyo update. If wifi in turned on in the drop down menu the new app when clicked gives the option to turn on or off wifi calling.

I didn't update but TMobile basically told me to get lost. They offered me a Motorolla Charm! When I told them that was nowhere near the caliber of my current phone they asked me if I wanted to port my number to another carrier. I told them yes. They said then they would keep my account going until I sign up with another carrier because if I cancelled now I'd lose my number. They said that's all they could do for me. I am TICKED. I told them I have been a long time customer and knew they could do better than this. They said this was their only offer. There aren't any phones on any other carriers I particularly want right now so I am waiting until something else comes out. As soon as that happens I'm leaving Tmobile. I wish I could leave them right now. The only other phone I even like is the EVO (had one that I returned for the Vibrant- STUPID!) but it is very large and heavy and that was part of the reason I returned it. The other reason was Sprint isn't the greatest in my area. When do the new android phones come out? Will some new ones be coming out soon?

One other thing, I can't get the 2.2 update b/c I have a mac computer so the sooner I can get out of this phone the better. I have also decided I do not want to ever have another phone without an LED for camera flash/ flashlight purposes.

I would actually try calling again and try talking to someone else. Sounds like you got a douche-bag service person. Usually when you threaten them to switch service they start throwing free stuff left and right, not encouraging you to switch.

Can someone explain the benefits of wifi calling? When it was turned on, it said it would still pull from my existing plan, so why would I bother doing that?

Its not a free wifi calling feature. Its meant to simply route your calls over the internet if you have bad cellular signal. It still routes the calls through t mobiles network so you will be charged minutes.

think of it this way. By using wifi calling you effectively use your wireless router as a cell tower.
