Can You go Screen Comando

I dont like the idea of a screen protector but my question is have some of you not used them and gotten by without scratching the screen as long as you are careful?
Had planned on keeping mine in my pocket without anything else in my pocket to scratch it?

absolutely. i had an omnia for a year and half, ran that naked, running the incredible naked right now. i keep it in a pocket by itself or with my leather wallet. piece of cake.

It doesn't take anything that you can see in your pocket to scratch it. I started carrying my Moto Droid in my pocket alone, after I left my holster at my parent's house a few weeks ago when visiting. Low and behold, the glass has some fine scratches along the top. You're going to end up with abrasives in your pockets simply from laundering your clothes. Stuff gets trapped in your pockets. While the devices pass the "key test" they must endure much more than just keys.

after a year and half of owning an omnia with a much inferior screen, i wound up with exactly one scratch. i guess it's a personal preference... i'd rather keep the look and feel of the screen as is and risk a few minor scratches. if i spent all day at the beach with my phone, or spent time in other abnormally abrasive-rich environments, i might feel differently.

screen protectors are a tradeoff - some people choose to make it, some people don't. i don't.

I think that the screen protectors are a hold over from the early palm devices. Those screens were plastic, and if you looked at them like a geek, they would scratch.
I have never had any problems with scratching screens, I am certain that I can afford to replace a phone, if I want to, or else use one of my renewals to get a new phone, whenever I want, but I still have a case and a screen protector on it. Just seems like common sense to me, like waxing a car to extend paint life.

Never scratched my Storm (1 and 2) Droid and now the INC screen's. I hate screen protectors!

My issue with screen protectors and cases is that I want to enjoy my phone as it was intended by the manufacturer. To add a screen protector and case is changing the experience. When ever I ask my friends why they have screen protectors and/or cases I usually get a response such as, "well I want to keep the phone in perfect condition."

But by having a screen protector and/or case you never get to enjoy the phone in perfect condition. From day one it is in an altered state. Sure it works about the same, but the experience is not as enjoyable.
Its like always wearing a rubber while screwing your wife... You married her... she is yours to damage. You own the phone, it is yours to damage. Have some fun with your toys for Christ's sake!

I always protect my touch screen. Even if you baby your device, all it takes is one time to put a big scratch on your screen. I'd rather know that I don't have to worry about that happening. With an invisible shield, I can keep my phone in the same pocket as my keys and still not worry about it. If you're not a fan of the rubbery feel of the invisble shield there are a lot of other options discussed on other threads that are more glassy feeling. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

Commando here<----- The BIGGEST waste of money that I spent on my phone (outside of Locale, errr battery drainer that doesn't work anyway) has been for a stupid screen protector. I forget the name but it's the one that you had to put water on your Incredible when it was a day old, yeah GENIUS idea. Anyway, I keep mine in my front pocket with nothing else in with it. No problems, no worries. I have insurance. :D

LOL

currently i dont have a screen protector or a case. im looking at maybe buying a pouch to keep it in while its in my pocket.
all the reviews for screen protectors ive read either say that they make the screen fuzzy or sticky to the touch or something. i really like how my screen looks and feels right now and im worried that i will lose these things if i get a plastic sheet to put over it.

My girlfriend has no protection on her screen and I love the way it feels. I had gotten Zagg on mine at first but didnt like it because it was too sticky and picked up a lot of finger prints. I then replaced it with Ghost Armor which is an awesome screen protector. I do like the feel of Ghost Armor it is a good protector but the naked screen feels awesome..she carries it in her purse and no scratches yet.

I broke down and applied my second of 3 VZW screen protectors. I put it a bit higher on the screen so I don't feel the lip when pulling down the notification bar.

have to say im liking it. less fingerprints visible. just as clear as naked. can't feel a difference really. and have peace of mind lol

screen commando: funny. :D

Screen protector all the way. I've had my VZ protector on for 3 weeks and it already has two big scratches in it. I have a habit of jamming my keys in the same pocket where I carry my Dinc. I honestly see no difference in screen performance using rhe protector v. naked, so wonder why anyone would take the chance. I even have a specially ordered screen protector on the 7" nav LCD in my car. Actually works great because it cuts down the glare. I'm anal about my equipment, probably need medication.

Its normal to want to care for and protect the things we work hard for :)

I dropped mine at a theme park and the whole screen protector got scratched. A huge scratch down the middle. Can you imagine if that was real bare screen? *cringe*

Sadly, the VZW snapon gradient case flew off and scratched up an edge of my Incredible. Looks pretty good though. Like I've used it. Anyway, don't want it more than that so Seidio case is on the way.

Oooooo, I gotta subscribe to this thread and see how long it takes before you guys realize these screens can and will scratch...

I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I never put mine in my pocket... Ever.

...so I told you I would keep you updated. I just dropped my phone... hard, from 2.5ft on to what seems to be oak flooring. I got lucky. No scratches or issues. The back just popped off my phone.

I think I will more seriously consider the idea of insurance or a case. I just need to weigh the cost vs benefit.

I've got a nice long scratch down the middle of my screen protector. I am very careful with my phone and always pocket it by itself. You can only see the scratch in certain lighting when the screen is off. Luckily I have a second screen protector I can just put on if it starts to drive me nuts. I don't however have a second screen I can throw on if it gets scratched. My .002121 cents.

I have OCD about my stuff being in perfect condition. I put on the phantomskinz and absolutely love it. Not only does it protect my screen, but it shows less finger smudges and easy to clean. Highly recommend phantomskinz !!!

If you are worried about scratches, put on a GOOD screen protector. If you don't care about scratches, go comando.

You are absolutely hilarious !!

There's another thread that just started about someone that put the phone in their pocket with their keys... We all know how that worked out...

Oh trust me these screens can scratch. But I've been going commando since day one, as long ad I remember keys go in left pocket, phone in rigjt, ill be fine :)

This made me lol. I don't know how much you would have to pay for insurance, but for me I would have to go like eight years without breaking or losing a phone for insurance to be unprofitable. Even with a case you can drop it in water, or your phone might break all by itself with a fried circuit or something.

It would take 4-5 years to hit the cost of the phone, but that is not the only calculation which needs to be made. I have to take into account my own lifestyle variables vs the cost of the insurance, then figure what the value a case would provide in relation to those. I am probably just going to get the Innocase. Insurance is not for me I generally come out ahead without it. The Innocase should protect me from minor accidents like today.
