Root Can you install a ROM over top of another?

Currently running CM7 (tinkerguy's) on my Motorola Triumph, I want to try out Thunder mod, just to see what its like. however I am not sure of the process on how to do this. Do I need to do a recovery to stock or can I just install the new zip file onto my phone? Havent been able to find any answers to this, any help would be appreciated.

You can boot into your CWM recovery. Then you wipe /system /data and /cache. You can then install the new ROM using whatever instructions they have for that ROM.

Do you mean flashing the Thunderprop mod?

these get flashed over your current rom, if you wipe anything you will totally nuke the rom and it wont boot.

the thunderprop is just a file, it gets flashed like a rom except you dont wipe anything first.

only when you flash a full rom do you have to wipe


also, the thunderprop mod only allows the Android Market to see your phone as a HTC Thunderbolt, and give you apps that the thunderbolt can run, like gameloft games and stuff.

it does nothing else for the phone.

haha you know where i got that name idea? :D i was looking to make a rom for this device, and i couldnt get any ideas. so i looked for a theme to port. well i came across a htc thunderbolt theme that had some of the icons and the wallpaper. so i decided to mess around with it and call it "thunder rom" LOL :p

(i wasnt very creative)

LOL. You made a ROM that is creative enough :p

I think the confusion is the build.prop mod is based off the Thunderbolt as well, easily misunderstood. I thought since they spoke of flashing ROMs it was the ROM and not the build.prop, but I could be wrong and they were talking of the build.prop mod.

i should have waited for cm7 and miui to slow down before i released it though.

i was thinkin about porting liberty rom or something like that, but never got to it. and me and mobstergunz are doing 2 roms at the moment, so we will se what you uys think of em' :p

It would be pretty cool to see the stuff that people have done on stock have a similar version for CM7. The theme chooser is cool and all, but a complete theme makeover just for this phone would be really cool.

I guess I could work on that, but I have been really busy lately. I know we have plenty of folks capable of doing that though! :D
