8 more fps?
There is something you don't seem to be understanding about the way devices like this perform.
The FPS cap put a framerate limit on the phone. That means that no matter what you are doing, your phone's display can not refresh faster than 30 times per second. This does not mean that your phone is ALWAYS refreshing 30 times per second. That is very unrealistic.
The FPS cap does NOT mean the EVO is limited to 52 FPS. Everyone that runs FPS2D seems to think that whatever number they see, that is the phones FPS limit and also the FPS the phone is constantly running at. This is not the case. You'll notice that sometimes, the FPS hits higher numbers in FPS2D. Sometimes lower numbers. The end result is just the average. In FPS2D, the EVO should be capable of hitting 60 FPS... as it is a very simple application. As far as screen transitions go, there is a LOT more moving on the screen than just a green ball on a black background. The CPU has to process all of this... and can get bogged down if there is too much. This will still cause choppiness. Try running a live wallpaper like that fish aquarium one with a lot of fish on the screen. Then try swiping. You'll see what I mean.
The iPhone will always appear smoother because.... let's face it, iOS is very simple and there is not much going on behind the scenes. Screen transitions never get bogged down. Also, Apple is in control of both the hardware and the software, so they can ensure a very smooth user experience.
As far as 3D games go... I doubt the EVO gets higher than 30 FPS very often. It's GPU is very limited in processing power. You won't see no 52 FPS in the nenamark1 benchmarking tool

But on average, the removal of the 30 FPS limit should help.
