Can you see the difference from the FPS fix?

Now that HTC has released a fix for the 30FPS cap, what do you think?

My app menu does seem to stutter now, but i think it's just more noticeable given the visual improvement of scrolling now...

I assume you are using the stock Sense launcher? The app drawer for Sense is notoriously laggy. In fact, whenever you scroll anything with the Sense launcher, your CPU will spike to 100%. There's something really inefficient with how Sense is rendering the animations.

If you switch to a custom launcher, like LauncherPro or ADW Launcher, you'll notice that scrolling is even more smooth.

If you're rooted and have a kernel with HAVS, you'll see even better animation rendering, since the HAVS will make sure you have enough juice and CPU to perform the animation. Even Sense looks smooth with HAVS.

So.... there's still room for improvement if it matters to you. If not, that's fine too :)

I do notice a difference. The animations are smoother. I also notice a few other changes to menus and options when u view picture properties

Actually i've been using LP since the 2nd or 3rd week i've owned the phn :) I have my app drawer with the 3D scroll thing activated, which may have something to do with it. I didn't notice it as much before the fps update, but i think it's really just cause scrolling now appears smoother, which'll help bring out any minor imperfections.

I also noticed that my music player doesn't skip when I browse with dolphin HD anymore, I probably like that the most.

it seems to be a bit smoother... but over all... nah.. I mean it's nice to not have a 30 fps cap... but it wasn't a huge deal to me...

8 more fps?
There is something you don't seem to be understanding about the way devices like this perform.

The FPS cap put a framerate limit on the phone. That means that no matter what you are doing, your phone's display can not refresh faster than 30 times per second. This does not mean that your phone is ALWAYS refreshing 30 times per second. That is very unrealistic.

The FPS cap does NOT mean the EVO is limited to 52 FPS. Everyone that runs FPS2D seems to think that whatever number they see, that is the phones FPS limit and also the FPS the phone is constantly running at. This is not the case. You'll notice that sometimes, the FPS hits higher numbers in FPS2D. Sometimes lower numbers. The end result is just the average. In FPS2D, the EVO should be capable of hitting 60 FPS... as it is a very simple application. As far as screen transitions go, there is a LOT more moving on the screen than just a green ball on a black background. The CPU has to process all of this... and can get bogged down if there is too much. This will still cause choppiness. Try running a live wallpaper like that fish aquarium one with a lot of fish on the screen. Then try swiping. You'll see what I mean.

The iPhone will always appear smoother because.... let's face it, iOS is very simple and there is not much going on behind the scenes. Screen transitions never get bogged down. Also, Apple is in control of both the hardware and the software, so they can ensure a very smooth user experience.

As far as 3D games go... I doubt the EVO gets higher than 30 FPS very often. It's GPU is very limited in processing power. You won't see no 52 FPS in the nenamark1 benchmarking tool :p But on average, the removal of the 30 FPS limit should help.

I was actually on the fence of whether or not to root for this very reason (along with the "bloatware" among a couple other features)
so i'm happy to say it does make a difference. fps2d used to show 23-25 average, now it shows 53 average.
it's not extremely different or life-changing, but in the picture galleries, scrolling through screens, etc, it's much nicer. I can't say much about games, cuz I don't play them on my phone.

This isn't really a fair poll given that a bunch of folks were likely already rooted and seeing better performance prior vs those of us who had not rooted.

It seems to remind me now, more of the iPhone scrolling. It is smoother, a few small stutters everynow and then, while scrolling thru Handcent .

Yes, this poll was intended for non-rooted users. Do you need me to create another poll for rooted users so you don't feel left out? :) I'm rooted too and had the fps fix for months now. And yet I flashed the rooted version of this OTA to test the fix. it is very similar to what rooted users have already, and my vote is that it makes a huge difference.

So, yes, even rooted users can vote on this poll. Clearly the poll's not trying to compare rooted fps fix vs htc's fps fix.

I wasn't rooted but nothing big in the difference. Sandstorm the FPS game runs smoother, but my Asphalt is still choppy, but much better then before. Could be a game issue too. All in all I'm glad for the update.

Heh, I can assure you that it is not a game issue, but an adreno 200 GPU issue ;). But that is to be expected. The FPS fix doesn't increase the power of the phone, just unleashes its actual potential :D

I voted on "a little difference, barely notice", but that isn't really how I feel. I can easily tell the difference, but I just don't think it is that big of a deal. When Froyo came out, you could easily tell that the 3G font changed, but it wasn't a big deal. This isn't too dissimilar, save for the fact that the changes do hav some appreciable performance advantages.

I appreciate how it runs a bit smoother and that I can use ShootMe and this update is outstanding within the expectations of your typical minor update, but to call it a "night and day difference" seems a tad excessive to me.

$0.02 from a non-game playing Evo user.

If you haven't performed the OTA... scroll thru your pictures before update... update, then scroll your pictures again. You can see the difference.

This is a great update because a great as the EVO was, even old Android phones like the Hero was a smoother experience. Now it's almost as smooth as my old iPhone 3G, which is saying a lot.
