Root Cannot boot into phone (bootloop), any way to root?

Hey gang, need a little help if possible.

Have a friend's Evo that is not rooted, all it will do is get stuck in a bootloop when trying to power on the phone. Goes to the white HTC screen, shuts off and does it over and over.

Is there any way I can root this phone then throw a ROM on to get it up and going again? Without being able to get into the phone, I am not able to use Unrevoked. Here is the boot screen:

Not sure it is possible to get it rooted as I cannot get into a recovery screen (just brings up the phone icon with a red triangle with ! on it). Anything to try?

unfortunately you nees to get s-off before you can do anything like that. the best thing to do is just to take it in to sprint to get it fixed first. once it is fixed then you can try and root.
 
Yeah, was afraid of that. I am assuming that she does not have insurance is why she has not taken it in to Sprint yet. Figured since I was able to root my personal EVO, that I might be able to do something. Really don't care about having it rooted, just thought it would be easier to fix with it in that state

Will try that RUU that you are taking about Xtreme, if it doesn't work, oh well.

Aaaaaaand it lives!

Had to try a few times as it kept saying the battery was not above 30% (it was fully charged), but got the RUU to update it to the newest GB.
