I have a Galaxy S II and I have tried to connect to my router, and it constantly says obtaining and it never gets through. I thought maybe it was my wireless password that i was getting wrong so I change it. The signal strength is great, but I am still locked out when using my Galaxy S II. I need step by step instructions, cuz some how I know I am missing something. No matter what I just can't get it to show up on my home network. Please help, I would greatly appreciate it, thank you ;-)

I have been reading about all the dramas with the wifi, which I too, had a problem with. Not being overly literate where computers are concerned, I decided to ring Belkin,(my router manufacturer) to see if they could assist. They were great. They assigned my tablet its own ip address and told me exactly how to configure it. Hey presto .. it now works, I haven't had any connection problems since. Thanks Belkin.
You will need to give yr router manufacturer some details, which can be found in the Wifi settings. Go to Advanced settings.. you will find Use Static IP .. then a list underneath .. just tell them each setting on that list and they will tell you what to insert.

I've been looking over this thread and noone seems to have a problem with trying to pair their tab with their cell phone. I have Cisco wireless and have no problem with that. My brother-in-law have a HTC Hero and I can pair my tablet with his phone and have access to the internet when I'm not around my Cisco. The problem is I have a Samsung Moment and my tablet is paired with this phone but I can't access the web through this. I looked at the forum and said find the All Share App. Alas I have the Galaxy 10.1 and I don't have that. I can change my static IP address but it won't save it. How is it that my tablet can connect to a wireless router and another cell phone but not my own cell phone??
Trying !!. How do you keep the "Modify network Config" screen to stay on long enough to type in the numbers. My screen stays on only 7 seconds or so. Thank you !!

I believe you have to go into your display to change how lngyour screen should stay on.
recently got a Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 and everything was working well for a month and then I got these sporadic WiFi connection problems. Typically I have good WiFi signal for a while and then it dropped out for no reason. Resetting my router will fix the problem for a while and it came back again. After researching the Internet for causes and solutions, I found the following:
Root cause: apparently the Samsung Tab has a bug in which it got stuck with an IP address and if your router has dynamic DHCP, the IP address will change from time to time but the Samsung keeps remembering the old IP address and refuses to take the new one.
Solutions:
- one of the solutions that was suggested is to root the Tab so that you can delete some file which contains the IP address. Although this sounds like a logical thing to do, I think it's too complicated.
- another solution is to set both your router and Samsung Tab to static IP address but the drawback is that you have to reset to dynamic IP if you go to another WiFi zone such as Starbucks.
- another idea is that the Samsung tab has problem with the N router so it is suggested to go into the router menu to downgrade it to G. This sounds plausible but I didn't try it to know if it works or not.
- Another suggested solution is to run the Kies Air app and it will fix the problem. This is an app that allows you to transfer files between a PC and your Samsung Tab via WiFi and it also does the file backup onto your PC. Since this app has to connect to WiFi in order to work, running this app somehow fix the problem and I have not had any connection problems in the last couple of days. Hopefully it will stay this way for good.

Hey, thanks! I was trying to toggle with the static IP but it didn't work. Since I just got this Tab it's still under warranty and I don't want to root it just yet. The only reason I wanted this thing to connect so bad was because of The Red Zone. Since my Moment can no longer get it the Tab could. Now that today is the last day to determine who goes to the Superbowl my Moment will suffice if I need to get on the web when I'm not home. Also as long as it connects to my brother-in-law's HTC Hero I'm good. I still need to tinker with the ideas you suggested. I did d/l a Wi-fi Hot Spot on my Tab and it picked up my Moment very briefly so I'll just have to tinker with it.
Hey try to run the Kies Air app and please let me know if it fixes the problem. It seems to work for me so far. Also Kies Air is the only app that I found that allows you to backup your tab onto a PC. I am used to Apple iTunes where I can backup my iPhone to my PC but on Android, this is the only program I found so far.

Yeah, I tried everything I could think of including the Kies Air app and it still won't read my Samsung Moment. I even turned my cell into a hot spot and still nothing. My tablet will pick up everything else except that. Maybe when I root this thing it'll work. But for now since none of my teams made it to the superbowl it doesn't matter if I can connect to the internet via my phone when I'm out or not. By September something should work...Or at least it better.
Your problem is different from mine and other people. Basically you can connect to WiFi but not to you Samsung Moment whereas myself and other people cannot connect to any WiFi at all. So by running the Kies App, I am able to fix my WiFi connection problem. For your problem, you need to check if your Samsung Moment creates a WiFi zone or not (I am assuming that you are tethering) so you use a laptop or somebody else phone to see if it detects any WiFi. If not then the problem is inside your Samsung Moment.

You know what's odd is that I don't think it does. I have the wi-fi hot spot but it does nothing. I put the wireless tether app on there and for a split second my tablet read it. My tablet can pick it up through bluetooth but it says Samsung Transform and I still can't connect to the net. I'm guessing the kernel and build for my phone was specifically for that root. The Moment has been completely forgotten in the root world so I have to work with what's out there. Within the past few months I've had to constantly re-root it because it was buggy with the 2.3 and it lagged with 2.1 and is still buggy with 2.2 so I'll either have to resort to going back to a very old root, stick with what I have, or just get a new phone and money is tight so I'll have to deal with what I have. I tried to find a Samsung Transform tether but I don't know if anything like that is out there. I still will keep trying. Thanks for the tip too.
Sounds like you have a problem with rooting and tethering your Samsung Transform. Make sure that your Samsung Transform transmit the SSID or otherwise you have to enter the SSID on your Samsung tab manually before it can see the network.
I am new to the world of tethering myself but today I am going to jail break (this is similar to rooting in the Apple world) my iPhone 4S so that I can tether from it where I have grand-fathered unlimited data plan. Wish me luck.

Yeah the problem is my phone is a Moment and the root is for the Transform which I didn't know because it never stated it was for the Transform. It said it was for the Moment. I have to figure out what my SSID is. When I can figure that out I should be golden. Going to figure this out right now.
I jailbreak and tethered my iPhone successfully yesterday. On my Samsung Tab, I can switch to the iPhone WiFi hot zone and it works like a champ. But I when I switched back to my home WiFi then I had the same old problem as I have before even after I ran Kies Air. So running Kies Air didn't quite fix the problem and I ended resetting my router a couple of times before I can connect to it again.
But connecting to the iPhone Wifi tethering works every single time and the speed is quite decent.
SSID is the ID that you use to name your WiFi network and you set that while you set up your Wifi tethering on your phone.

I was good up until the SSID point and now I'm like
. I don't know what that means which is probably why I couldn't find my SSID. I have to re-root my cell because my phone app isn't working right and I most definitely need that to work. Maybe I could put a different kernel and rom to it. Like I said rooting Moments have been kicked to the curb so I have to work with what I can work with until I can get something done. I found a Transform Tethering flash that I will play with. Hopefully with that I will be able to get my Tablet to read my cell. fficial&client=firefox-aAh...I wonder why I make things harder than what they are. My Samsung is rooted, it's just reading like it's a Samsung Transform instead. When I downgraded 2.3 to 2.2 I realized when I need to call someone my phone doesn't work. Something's not right with it and I don't know how to fix it. I figure if I can find the right kernel and rom for my Moment things should be fine. The problem is there's only the 2.1 update and nothing has been revamped for the 2.1. It's been for the 2.2 and 2.3. I gotta go back to the drawing board on this one.
I am not an expert on Android rooting so this is my last post on this subject but if you need any info then do a google search and you will find it. Anyway from what I gather, 2.3 Android is not available yet for the Samsung phone except for the latest Nexus phone. For now, you are on 2.2 and here is one article about how to root it.

Hey guys, I've got a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 and I'm having issues connecting my laptop to my phone wifi hotspot. I've got an Acer Aspire 5750G Windows 7 64bit laptop. On my phone, I go to "Wireless and Network" settings and then "Mobile AP". I made my Network SSID and my security is set to "WPA2 PSK". I made sure the "hide my device" option was unticked and then I activated it. But my laptop cannot pick up my wifi. I'm not sure if it's my phone or my laptop.

The WiFi on the laptop is fairly reliable and so if it does not see the WiFi from your Samsung Galaxy phone then it is likely that you didn't root or tether your phone correctly. The issue that we discussed in this thread is a different issue and it is the inability of the Samsung Galaxy tablet to see ANY WiFi network or only see some of the times and it looks like it is a bug in the Galaxy tab.

After returning two tablets because of the wifi connection problem, I decided to try again with a Samsung Galaxy Tab. It gave me the same problem. It kept saying, "Obtaining IP Address". I was on the verge of buying another router and doing away with my netgear router. I decided to dig a little deeper into other forums and I found the answer.
When asked to put in the password, you have to put in the WEP Key. As luck would have it, I had all that info copied down. The tab works like a charm now.

HELP! I'm not a techie so all the tips I'm reading here is very daunting to me and complicated.
My wife and I got frustrated connecting our newly bought Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus smartphone-tabs. My wife's heart sank upon reading the inherent problems Galaxy Tabs has with connecting it in home setups.
I'm so desperate too that I'm willing to shell off money just to correct this problem. I have a DLink router and I have no problem connecting any other gadgets that need wifi access except now.
Help!
